this is part 2 of an ongoing discussions (AKA a good excuse to talk about old games lol) here's the previous video: th-cam.com/video/_83KOo1geAw/w-d-xo.html
I got the darkness when it came out it wad so fun. I had no idea if it was gonna be good but I had a bunch of the comics and still do and liked them so I got it. Totally worth it
The original Mercenaries on PS2 was one of my favorite games as a kid. I used an infinite ammo cheat and loaded vehicles with boatloads of C4 just to watch them blast off into the sky to return a minute later. Good times.
Using the money cheat and just using fuel bombs to obliterate entire cities. Also the bunker buster animation was a classic, remember using one in that mission to unlock it, and then one of the bounty cards come strolling out lol
The Def Jam games were awesome. Fight for NY really stepped it up on all fronts. The story, graphics, game mechanics and the clothing/gear were so sick. The roster of artists was great as well. I would love a remaster of that game. Keep everything the same just update the controls and graphics.
Def Jam was so good. Promoting the best of the best hip hop artist like Tech Techie 9 and WuTang their "bitches" and money. The fighting was a lot of fun and seeing Snoop Dog as the bad guy. Dressing guys up and the mechanics of the game were so great. I would still play it now.
The darkness was the only game I ever played that interested my girlfriend. Think the scene on the couch was what grabbed her. She watched me play three quarters of it. We split up for a couple of week. I completed it without her. When we got back together it was one of the first things she said, we can finish that game. She got really upset when I admitted to finishing it without her. Made me feel really bad haha
Me too! I replayed them both, (again), on series X recently. They run great, and may be 5$, (probably sale price). I’d welcome improved versions, but both games have aged remarkably well, due to the Xbox emulation in part, but also the art styles. The cell-shaded sequel is stylish enough to not simply look old, and the original has such a wonderful grit to it that it’s one of my favorite looking games of all time. Using the quad-wielding in 2 is awesome, but all the tentacle powers and subway stations of the original haunt me in the most wonderful way. I picture the dark streets, the moody little monologues, Aunt Sarah’s place…and I hear the simple, ethereal song from the orphanage. (E, F, G, F, E,F, E…?) I’ve never met anyone who has played either one! Cheers, fellas. 🥂
Oh yeah, 2 was a cliffhanger! I’d rather have a great sequel than a great remake. I don’t know if the graphic novels have the story ready to tell, or how close the games are, …though the supernatural Jenny angle wasn’t as cool as the subdued original tale, so maybe they went off the rails…
I completely agree with Mercenaries!! That game had a vibe, a feeling, an atmosphere that is indescribable and I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way. Man what a game. What a time.
I don’t know how well it was received for everyone else but I have been wanting a Army of Two remake. I remember playing that game with my brother when I was a kid and it was so badass.
The first two were great. The third sucked, undersold, and basically killed the series. I mean EA is remaking Dead Space. So I guess anything's possible. But it was a "bro shooter" of its time and I don't see calls for it like Dead Space. Just my 2 cents.
I wanna see Tenchu rebooted with the tone of Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins. The characters felt layered with their motivations, emotions, and their relationships to each other, hell even with the VILLAINS. Would love to play a Tenchu game with controls better than tank controls, flashier looking stealth kills, and even bigger and better levels than ever.
I would love to see legacy of kain get a remake. my main issue with it when trying to go back is the control scheme. an updated LOK with modern controls would be amazing!
Man, I've been wanting Legacy of Kain to come back for such a long time. There's a lot of cool lore to work with and an interesting world. It could be really successful if it was done right.
Jake thank you bro. Def Jam FFNY is my favorite game of all time for many reasons. I never had more fun than beating my friends and roommates in this game. The Aki game engine, blazing moves, weapons, environment attacks, fighting styles, character creator, was all over the top and well implemented and I absolutely love it. Def Jam has been teasing a comeback for years just to get more followers on twitter. I would even settle for a remaster of Vendetta and FFNY with online cross play as these games need to be preserved. Icon ruining the series with too many bad changes which I commented on gameranx and we need a comeback man seriously.
+1 for Rampage and Legacy of Kain (and Soul Reaver). A series I would kill to see remade or, at the very least, continued is Dark Cloud. LOVED those games as a kid.
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. That game was SO underrated. Campaign was challenging & lengthy and the splitscreen multiplayer was fun too. Would love to see this game re-made with modern graphics & controls.
The Legend Of Dragoon! Anyone remember that one? It had 4 discs on the ps1! How did it never get a sequel? It was such an amazing game that just came and went and got lost in history
Mercenaries was so far ahead of its time! The destructibility of it was insane! Such a fun time waster too. All these games remade would be a day one buy for me. Hell even a pre-order lol
Great list as always Jake! Ironically I was talking to a mate yesterday about this. We decided Twisted Metal 2, Driver, Speedball 2 & Syndicate (the OG isometric game) could use with a reboot/remake. Thanks for the awesome vids!
Blood Omen is my favorite game in the franchise as well as one of my favorite games period. Kain’s personality and narration really elevates the whole experience. Everything was so delightfully twisted.
I really Loved Blood Omen 2. The way they set that up at the time was perfect. I loved how you could just snatch a person out of the street and just drain them of blood, and it just flew through the air into Kain's mouth. This was an Extremely enjoyable game. The way you could Kill people in that game now that is what you call Twizid
Anyone remembers this game WET? I would love to see it having the love it deserves Its kinda like max payne, stronghold and fun action slasher from the likes of prince of persia, dmc and ninja gaiden
I'd love to see the Hidden and Dangerous series make a come back. There were some amazingly fun missions in those games. The ai, inventory management etc. were a bit of a pain but conceptually they were brilliant.
Love the original Legacy of Kain for basically everything except the graphics and gameplay. Those aspects were alright, but the tone, the soundtrack, and especially the story and voicework were incredible. It would be great to get a new game in that franchise or a full on remake of the first game.
I really want a remake of Cold Fear. The top of my list however is Manhunt! Manhunt, cold fear, Dino crisis, bloodborne 60fps, code veronica, silent hill 1.
The LoK/Soul Reaver games are big ones to me. They have an amazing storyline, incredible voice acting, etc... but I feel like the actual gameplay could really use a modern update.
Legacy of Kain remakes baby! Been wanting these games brought back forever. One of my favorite series ever. Soul Reaver is my bread and butter baby. Top notch story and voice acting in a game to this day. Kain is such a great character and Raziel and Kain together are such a good duo. Love those games so much. Man I miss them. A fresh coat of graphics and upgraded game mechanics would be great. Give it the RE 2 remake treatment already.
Here are some games I would liked to see remade: The Darkness 1&2 The old Harry Potter movie games Jak and Daxter series Overlord Old InFamous games Resistance games Def Jam Fight for NY (with New and old rappers) Sly Cooper games GOD OF WAR 1&2 In one package Tony hawk American Wasteland
I would love L.A Noire to come back with modern day facial capture technology. Trying to figure out if someone is lying with red dead quality faces would be incredible
Can we talk about a remake of Conflict: Desert storm ?! That game was light years ahead of its time in terms of multiplayer. The co op in that game actually made you care for your characters, but it was a cool idea that if one dies a new guy with a whole new set of stats replaces them !
Remakes for Crusader: No Regret and No Remorse could be pretty cool. And although this isn't a remake, I would love a sequel or spinoff of Shadows of the Damned. I'm currently replaying that game and I'm amazed by how much I still enjoy it, cheesy dialogue included. I never thought I would say this, but we need more weird games like that!
I grew up very poor. One of my great joys was saving my quarters for the weekend when I would go to the neighborhood laundromat where there was a rampage arcade game. Rampage will always have a special place in my heart.
This was a surprisingly well-done list of forgotten classics that could definitely benefit from a redo with current technology. These were trailblazers that allowed further installments to build on their legacy. I think it would be great to showcase the origins of these mechanics and structures.
Nice picks! Without choosing super obvious big games, here's a few I'd like to see: Twisted Metal World Tour. Jet Moto. Primal. Pandemonium. Darkwatch. Jet Set Radio.
As far as remakes I'd like to see, there's quite a few. Mega Man Legends, Brave Fencer Musashi, Parasite Eve, Xenogears, Einhander, Voodoo Vince, Blinx, Jet Set Radio, Seaman, Powerstone, Goeman(N64) and Ape Escape off the top of my head.
Blood Omen on GOG doesn't feel the same so yes a remake is really needed. One much older game I would love to get my hands on again is an old C64 game from 1987 which was from SSI at the time. That game is The Eternal Dagger. While maybe a release as it was on GOG would be nice, a remake mainly aimed at the graphics and interface would be awesome.
I'd love them to remake the Transformers Armada PS2 game, or make a new Transformers game that played similarly to that. Huge open worlds for the time, really fun boss battles (the Tidal Wave fight!), great level design (Tidal Wave level 😮) and the score was really a good time. Would also love the True Crime series to return!
I totally agree , add to the ones that need a remake: the saboteur (2009) , alot of tomb raider games , red dead revolver and of course we need proper remasters for RDR1 , GTA IV , AC Black flag
Darkwatch, Cowboy-Vampire. Game was pretty awesome with 2 player campaign and a skill tree to unlock vampire skills. It also had a good or evil system that would perdict what powers you would get and eventually would decide which ending you got as well. As a bonus, there is also a deathmatch which was fun enough. Also I would love to see a revival of Champions of Norrath and the sequel, such fun Diablo like games, and with the remaster of baldurs gate dark alliance, I can see it happening in the near future.
Dude legacy of kain!!!!! Always been my favorite string of games. Been waiting for years and years to revisit nosgoth. Kain and Raziel were awesome characters.
Def Jam FFNY, Max Payne, Onimusha, Fist of the North Star, Tecmo Super Bowl. Those are the 5 games I'd love to see remade. Some others would include Metal Gear, Black, Prince of Persia, Syphon Filter, Double Dragon, Final Fight, Bad Dudes, Metal Slug, The Darkness, Combatribes to name a few.
The Suffering needs a remake or a spiritual successor like whats being done with dead space remake or like callisto protocol being a spiritual successor to dead space. The Suffering is one of those horror titles that still has not been replicated for all the themes tossed in it. Very incredible experience
Oh man you just lit a spark in my brain! I would so love another game like War of the monsters. I cannot believe they never made a Godzilla game like this for the new movies. It will work so good! And it makes me so sad cuz I never got to play that PS4 Godzilla game and now it's way too expensive
I have been loving these nostalgia discussions! I think for me I would love to see a reboot of the Tenchu series. The slow stealth gameplay is something Ive been itching for. I love the RE remakes, but I desperately need a Dino Crisis 1 remake. I also really miss the simplicity of the older N64 WWE(WWF) games. Those were some amazing good times!
Sekiro started that way, but then it was so different that they made it it’s own thing. But yeah, From owns the Tenchu name at the moment so with Sekiro being a thing… ehhhh… don’t know about that at the moment. Maybe?
Mercenaries 1 + 2 was my Grand Theft Auto for my early teens (since I wasn’t allowed to have GTA) and I loved every second of those games. I would LOVE a remake. I still have the “Oh no you didn’t” song stuck in my head.
Jake baldino I love you. It's crazy how much you are EXACTLY like me and my friends when it comes to vidgeo games and pop culture. Every single one of these games would be such a good time if they remastered them. And I know a lot of people aren't big on remasters but I would much rather live in a world where companies remake my favorite games, with updated graphics and gameplay, then live in a world where companies don't remake my favorite games.
Burnout Revenge. sure you can pick Burnout 2 or 3, but the demolition BR mode was so damn satisfying. also i want to hear what Criterion mixtapes collection of bands in a future if they ever did remake BR. also i can't stresss this enough bring back OG Ace Combat Trilogy (AC Zero, AC 4 and AC 5)
this is why i follow this channel for these types of videos, Games like Def jam and rampage dont get enough love and are not talked about. I wish MK shaolin monks and warhawk were remade. Anyone remember warhawk? shit was lit af
I've got three for you, two of which may be less known than the third: 1 The Puppeteer (a side scroller ps3 game set on a stage with puppetry, puzzles and platforming); 2 Quantum Conundrum, the most perfect silly scientific puzzle game ps3 ever made, online purchase only, I think, and would be absolutely perfect for Switch. 3 Lollipop Chainsaw. That game had a song by Nemesis in it. Perfect for the DMC crowd. Bonus: I cannot wait for America McGee to make another Alice game. He's been working on one for years, relying solely on Patreon, it seems. I love his games.
Remakes PSI-Ops the Mindgate Conspiracy. (Midway, PS2-Xbox-PC) Shadow of Rome. (Capcom. PS2) Parkan Iron Strategy (PC game) Way of the Samurai 1 Remaster all PS3 exclusives incluinding PS1 and 2 colletions. They need to be available in other places.
I actually have it on fairly good authority that Crystal IS making a new Legacy of Kain game. No idea if it's a remake of the old games or a new entry to the franchise but I was told to expect a fairly small scope affair, compared to modern games, which is fine, considering what the original games were like.
'Mercenaries Playground of Destruction', 'The Saboteur' and 'True Crime: Streets of L.A' are games I've been waiting for a port or remake for a long long time!
this is part 2 of an ongoing discussions (AKA a good excuse to talk about old games lol)

Blood Omen is criminally underrated. Going from SNES to a PS1 as a teenager, this game was the perfect “grown up” version of Zelda.

Also I would love to see a revival of Champions of Norrath and the sequel, such fun Diablo like games, and with the remaster of baldurs gate dark alliance, I can see it happening in the near future.
I'd love to see Turok get the Doom 2016 treatment. An AO rated take on the Cerebral Bore would be, err, mind blowing.
Turkey was sick. I'd love to see any game from RARE
I always enjoy your takes brother. Your solo channel is valid and you really have a talent for this. Happy Thanksgiving Jake!
Def Jam might be THE certified hood classic of video games, what an absolute blast 1v1ing friends was on that game.
The THPS2 shirt goes hard 🔥 lol great video man, would love to see a Rampage remake too
Anyone remember Nightmare Creatures? That was a good game with plenty of gore that could be a cool remake
I do! The monsters were really scary.
@@thegamingprozone1941 Very creepy atmosphere
Marc echos getting up will always be nostalgic and totally solid to me, loved the setting and narrative
All the soul reavers and blood omen 2 were dope. I hope this franchise gets some kind of resurgence
Holy shit that Legacy of Kain game looks awesome. I never played that one or even heard of it!
Have you checked out the Aragami games? They are very inspired by the Tenchu series. The second game is on Game Pass if you have that.
@@CarlHammarstrom I have they are wonderful! Aragami 2 really progressed from the first game!
I want Deus Ex and DMC 2 remakes. They definitely deserve it, especially Deus Ex.
DMC2 reimagination
Nice list! Blood omen and rampage are great ideas
Would love a "JC's Thing" scifi horror themed game since the last one was actually pretty old i remember.
Yes I would love a remake haven't been able to find a ps2 copy and I'm worried the old battle horse may not start to play it lol
I agreed with every single one of these. The Nosgoth lore is so deep, you could have several games from it, if done right.
They should remake all the Legacy of Kain games. They were all pretty good. One of my all time favorite series of games.
The way you summed up mercenaries was on point .I loved that game when I was a kid. The music was top notch
this is why i follow this channel for these types of videos, Games like Def jam and rampage dont get enough love and are not talked about.
Remakes
PSI-Ops the Mindgate Conspiracy. (Midway, PS2-Xbox-PC)
Shadow of Rome. (Capcom. PS2)
Parkan Iron Strategy (PC game)
Way of the Samurai 1
Remaster all PS3 exclusives incluinding PS1 and 2 colletions. They need to be available in other places.
The first Army of T.W.O could use a remake
I actually have it on fairly good authority that Crystal IS making a new Legacy of Kain game. No idea if it's a remake of the old games or a new entry to the franchise but I was told to expect a fairly small scope affair, compared to modern games, which is fine, considering what the original games were like.
I remember playing rampage as kid with my brother. It is one of my favourite game for my childhood. They should make a sequel or remake on the game.
I need the Colony Wars III: Red Sun remaster for the current gen consoles. Damn i loved that game
We need more games like The Darkness where you’re just an absolute monstrous powerhouse. Prototype and Infamous come to mind, but that’s about it.
The Darkness was one of my favorite games I still think its story is one of the best in its genre
'Mercenaries Playground of Destruction', 'The Saboteur' and 'True Crime: Streets of L.A' are games I've been waiting for a port or remake for a long long time!
