    It is called Dulles because of the former US Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles. There is no town called Dulles.

    It's fun to look at Orlando Airport especially, you make me want to spend the rest of my day on Google Earth looking for weird airports! 😂 However, I still think that population going through is much more important than size, but since I didn't know this ranking... well done for having put something a bit more original than I expected it to be! x)

They also have a transportation system that you don’t have to leave the secure part of the airport to go from one terminal to the other. I am glad to see Dallas in the list. The first time I saw that airport on Google Maps, I was like....holy $%^&!!!! Atlanta is actually the busiest airport in the world and is also huge. But the era of total domination by US airports is quickly coming to an end. China already has - and is rapidly building more - massive airports. Beijing's new airport at Daxing is going to be huge. I think it is planning to be the world's biggest eventually Shanghai Pudong looks impressive with 4 or 5 runways (and likely to expand more since it has room). Istanbul just opened a new airport that is aiming to serve over 100 million passengers per year. Then there is Dubai, which tries to outdo everyone in everything. The next decade or two is likely to see massive airports constructed in China followed by India. The future biggest airports could be from these.

    We don't elect representatives based on land area. What are you talking about?

    • @ibx2cat
      @ibx2cat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's the entire premise of the senate, and several house seats, and because the presidency is slightly based on a combination of those systems, that is also partially based on land area.

    • @Conradd23
      @Conradd23 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ibx2cat No, the premise of the senate is to give each state equal status as an entity. It has nothing to do with land area. Texas is the second largest by both land area and population, California is 3rd in land area and first in population. The house is based loosely on population, I mean it does give more representation per citizen to lower population states, but if you voted solely off of population, then people in rural areas would never get their voices heard, and that's what lead to the yellow vest protests in France.

    • @kobiallen8652
      @kobiallen8652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ibx2cat the Senate is not based on a state’s size. If that was true, then Alaska would have significantly more senators than Rhode Island, but they both have only two, as does every state. This is because the Senate was not originally supposed to represent the people, but rather the state/state government. Direct election of senators was not around until the Seventeenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1913. Arguments can be made if this should have ever been, but I would argue that even having an elected Senate/Upper House is more democratic than not having an elected Senate/Upper House.

    • @rangarolls6018
      @rangarolls6018 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whole point of the United States is that is a Federation, not a Unitary State. The States make up the Federation, they get equal representation in the Senate, just like all people get equal representation in the House (or at least are supposed to). it’s representing States not people. Because the US is a democracy people of course vote for those senate seats

    • @Conradd23
      @Conradd23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rangarolls6018 The US is designed to be a bottom up govt. We give as many rights and responsibilities to the individual as we possibly can. Whatever they can't handle goes to city/county govts. Whatever they can't handle goes to the state govts. The very small amount of issues that can't be handled by the states go to the Federal govt., and as Ranga Rolls points out, the senate is designed to represent the states, and the house is designed to represent the people. The cities/counties don't get federal representation, but their purview is very limited, so that makes sense.

    America doesn't do representation by area, .. exactly. The thing is, the USA began as an alliance of states, and so some representation is by population but some is by membership.
    For example, if the EU did all voting by population, countries with small populations wouldn't want to join because the large population countries would dominate the vote.
    I agree that 200 years later that's not the issue it once was, but at the time it addressed a serious issue.
    But it never had to do with area. In fact at the time the most populous states were also physically largest.

    When my family went to Orlando in 2007, our tour guide had told us that the US had barred international flights in the secondary airports in the country, so they could centralize the costums (something to do with 9/11). That meant the only way we could fly to Orlando was via Miami or Atlanta. The huge airport, where all Latin Americans wanna go, was being waisted due an inneficient governement decision.

    • @KanyeTheGayFish69
      @KanyeTheGayFish69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gøran Greggor there’s some 5 million people in the surrounding area. Denver is geographically very isolated from the next major city, and is centrally locates so it made sense for many airlines to make it a major hub. For Most people passing though (like Dubai’s airport) the airport isn’t the final destination, just the hub for connecting flights. Denver is at the foot of the mountains and it has a massive tourism industry with the skiing and outdoor activities. Denver is also one of the fastest growing cities in North America, and the old airport was surrounded by development and could not be expanded, so they moved it into an unpopulated area. Dulles airport 50 years ago was in a similar situation. The airport swastika shape is designed to have a uniform traffic pattern, with the taking off and landing directions the same and in the direction of the central terminals. It is designed to be expanded in the future with both new terminals and runways.

      Saftladen95 it’s designed so that planes can always land facing the terminal and takeoff away from it to have a one way traffic pattern to be more efficient

      @@KanyeTheGayFish69 Well that makes sense and it's definitely a clever idea but as a german I simply can't unsee it^^ If here in Germany a city would've actually planned to build an airport like that it would probably cause A LOT of controversials. I mean we had controversials in my home region only because the airport of Stuttgart looks like a gun and to be fair it really does look exactly like a gun when you flip it 180° on google earth, but don't we have other more important things to care about, for example finishing the Berlin airport already? xD

      Wikipedia says O'Hare is 3087 hectares, DFW is 6963, Dulles is ... 52.6 square km which is 5260 hectares. O'Hare is #6 in terms of passengers, #2 in terms of takeoffs and landings, but 11th in land area.

      @@spyone4828 He's most likely referring to the fact that in the video, he said that the DFW metro area was the largest city not on the coast in America, when Chicago is.

    The electoral system is the way it is to prevent the oppression of rural, less populated states from the more urbanised, more populated states. If the system was based around overall majority of votes and not overall majority of states, then you'll have a situation where large cities like San Francisco, New York, Detroit etc etc become the only areas worth representing to politicians which could lead to vast areas of people being completely neglected as the favours politicians would be asking for to be elected which simply be aimed at large cities, where most people live. It would give a lot of justification for a lot of states to want to leave the union too which didn't go so well last time

    Why does it surprise you a priest would be into conspiracies believing in things that have no actual evidence is kinda part of the job description so they are actually more prone to it statistically.
