- In this video we are looking at the Classic Star Trek Communicator from the original 1960's Star Trek TV series, starring William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock. This toy version of the original communicator was produced by Playmates Toys in 2023 and includes retro-style packaging similar to how Playmates released this toy back in the 1990's. I ordered this item for $24.99 from Target online. This toy features electronic sound effects and lights, as well as the authentic voice phrases of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, which I demonstrate in the video. If you like this video please give it a thumbs up. Also, if you want to see more videos like this please consider subscribing to the channel. Thank you for watching!

Big fun.
I wish they had a version where you get a set of two with walkie-talkie capabilities.
I think there is a higher end version of the communicator that can Bluetooth link to your phone, so with two of that version people could potentially engage in back and forth conversation. Not a walkie-talkie but essentially similar results.
I think the second sound button is the sound of the view screen on the bridge adjusting magnification or clarity of image.
That's possible. Thanks for the info!👍
Hi! I didn't know they came out with a communicator, but I did get the phaser when it came out! The correct sound effects are cool here and on the phaser... I hope there will be a good tricorder made, and the correct size as well. The old toy tricorder from the 70's was a tape recorder, if I remember correctly. The model of the tricorder that was around back then was too small, and it had a pic of the puppet Balok in it if I remember correctly. Thanks for posting this vid, fellow Trekker! And as any real Trekker could tell you: the correct response to Live Long & Prosper is "Peace and Long Life"! Thumbs Up on your video! -- Todd C (Creek Sider1)
Thanks for checking out the video, glad you enjoyed it!👍
Cool items for Trek fans.
A new tricoder would be TIGHT!
Yes, I'm hoping they will create an updated one with screen accurate proportions. I'm guessing price point will be much higher than either the phaser or communicator, probably more in the $40 range like the starships.
Still waiting for the real tricorder from the Wand Company.
I wish they would just spend a little extra money and use a real perforated metal grill for the lid.
I'm not too concerned about the perforation, but I would have liked this better with a more reflective gold finish for the flip out antenna. I may customize this at some point and make it look more accurate. But I love the sound effects, and the fact that it flips automatically when you push the button. There are a bunch of other versions that don't do this.
What is the website to order
I ordered this item from Target online for $24.99. I believe Amazon also has it.
It looks much cheaper than the original release.
I was thinking that too.
@@blockmasterscott Indeed. I have the original here and it's a far nicer representation. Much like the phaser, they somehow made it worse.
I think the only thing that is "cheaper" is the lack of gold sheen on the antenna, but other than that this version is superior to the original Playmates release, with the inclusion of the voices of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. The original version was very limited with sound effects.
@@LogicBlaster Ahh, you know what. I thought my communicator was a playmates version but I just pulled it out and it's Diamond Select. Explains why I thought it looked so much cheaper. Mind you, I did not pay a lot more for the Diamond Select version and it has a moving pattern as well as a much better reproduction of the texturing on the original communicators.
Agreed that the Diamond Select version is superior to this one. I'd consider that one a "high end" collectible, whereas this Playmates one is more of a toy. I'd love to obtain that Diamond Select version at some point, but it seems currently pretty expensive on the secondary market.
Looks a little too big
That's what she said... but in all seriousness, this communicator is not too far off from the original prop. The biggest problem is the belt clip, which is unnecessary and makes it too bulky.
There should be a button that says...Don't watch any Star trek beyond TOS it's CRAP!!!!
