    Playmobil sets the standard for handling toy licenses. Its not perfect, but its a good balance of toy details, play features, and accessories.

    My daughter bought me this for Christmas/birthday. She, my Mom and I really enjoyed putting it together, and It makes me smile every time I look at my dining room table.
    I've even made custom Klingons & Gorns. I really hope we see a shuttlecraft, a Sickbay & Transporter room playsets, and aliens! I'd LOVE to see a Klingon Battlecrusier.

      I remember thinking they were dorky figures, and maybe I still feel that way, to an extent. But they certainly created an amazing toy Enterprise... the core that switches power on and off, the sounds, the chairs being faithfully recreated and everything. Got to respect that level of commitment, and also that they stay true to their character style, working with what they like instead of trying to chase the currently hip, cool, popular thing and ending up a lame copy of some better-known thing.^^

    The Playmobil Enterprise is out of my price range, but I have an Ecto 1, a Delorean, a Ghostbusters Headquarters, and several of the smaller licensed sets. They're just good, fun toys. They're made well, have tons of play value, and look great.

    • @a.rheser8181
      @a.rheser8181 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sunnyfrisch agreed. They have become more expensive, and are now at the limit of what I (personally) would call fair pricing, unlike LEGO, whose prices just became ridiculous.
      True, you can find the Enterprise for 299,- at certain websites and in certain shops. Same as with most of their items. I always wait a few months and then buy their products, did so with BTTF, Ghostbusters, A-Team and will do so again with Knight Rider.

    Mr. T in the Time Machine is a show I would definitely watch. Also, I definitely see the lack of secure seating as a feature. When you shook the Enterprise and all went flying around the bridge, it looked VERY accurate to the show. I love the look of this toy. I hope to get it some day.

    • @ArkSucksAtGames
      @ArkSucksAtGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably could get the license if they really tried, but with all the competition in Star Wars toys, especially trying to compete against LEGO, it would probably be wise to stay in their corner, and tackle licenses others don’t have, or produce many products for.

      Same!!! This is arguably the greatest Playmobil thing I think I have EVER seen! It's like every other feature had me literally like 😮😮😮😮. I literally was not prepared for the greatness of this review! And yeah, if this was around when we were kids, I would have bagged my parents to get it for me. (Given the price point, I would have probably ZERO chance of actually getting it! Hahahaha, but I would have given it my best shot!😄) I think to celebrate the greatness of this review and WORTHY homage to the Original Series, (and myself as being a proud DS9er!) I think I'm going to bring those proverbial worlds together and go rewatch....."Trials and Tribblelations"!

  • @loganjorgensen
    @loganjorgensen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    They are totally nailing it with not just these licenses but toy design in general, with so many companies it's like they've forgotten what toys are at the core. I completely agree about that false expectation "You want Playmobil to do what, are you crazy?". O_o???
    I've enjoyed their figures picking up some from each of the waves sometimes, think they've evolved well. Do kind of wish for more "eye twinkle" like their movie characters but it's been a point of contention breaking from the original simple faces. Personally I'd like to see more flourishes like modern Lego in the face prints at least for the licensed sets, think that might help increase their general appeal.

    How wonderful to have this company that has the guts to go where no-one has gone before!!! A truly great toy company that never disappoints!! The figures identify this range-- leave them alone. To seat them just stick magnets on their bums and a washer glued to the seats,(which are literally banned by the toy trade, how far do people want to go?). Great entertaining promo feature AGAIN, so keep these coming!!!

    I agree. There's nothing wrong with Playmobil's figures. They are as Playmobil as GI Joe figures are GI Joe. Props to them for making such generic figures look so individualistic. In this day of hyper-realistic figures, it's nice to have a toy that looks like a toy, and clearly is doing what it can to look like the real thing at the same time.
    I never had much Playmobil as a kid, but man, I wish we'd had these things!

    Kudos for being the first american I hear that so openly and thoroughly appreciates Playmobil. I guess many people in the USA can't come to terms with the figure design (born in 1974, four years before Lego's) because in your country there's no nostalgia for them.

It is a so well designed and made from sturdy material. It just oozes pure quality. This is how you do it. A toy kids can actually safely play without fear of it breaking in 5 minutes, what a concept! And no stickers! Thank you! I need need to have this. Haven t felt like this about a new toy in so many years. Love it!

    At that price, I thought I definitely don't need this, then I saw your video. The level of detail, including the light up and spinning nacelles, and that detail on the bridge is fantastic. The only gripe I have, which is ridiculous on my part, is that they altered the shape of the disk hull to accommodate the bridge space. If this looked externally, exactly like the screen version of the Enterprise, it would be impossible to say no to.

    I REALLY want one of these. If I could just afford one.😅 IMO Playmobil is just as cool as Lego and has great play factor for kids with its usual great build quality from my exp. Its unfortunate that its getting just as expensive as Lego.
    I didn't have as much Playmobil stuff as a kid than anything else. Probably cause allot of it was generic stuff not tied to a property back then but man that stuff held up. When my mom and I gathered it up and cleaned it up to parcel out to my Brothers' kids it was all in fantastic shape minus some paint applications. Man I loved the Playmobil vehicles. The figures felt weird compared to GI joes back then but damn if you wanted a good ambulance. Patrol car or firetruck toy back then you couldn't go wrong with Playmobil.

    Awesome that you listened to the Motion picture score while putting it together. Did you see the new 4k version of Star trek the motion picture they just put out? You can stream it now and I can't wait to get the blu ray come fall. They didn't add much but we finally get a shot in the movie where you can see the ship in all its glory when the cloud around it disapates towards the end of the movie. Bang on with the Eaglemoss toy.👍 I love the way the Motion picture was shot but to finally get that reveal view of the ship towards the end of the movie was great with some decent CG.

    Playmobil has always been pretty great and the new licenses they have are pretty awesome. That smartphone slot for encounters has endless play value too.

    I never was into Playmobil like two years ago (more a Lego guy), but then I saw the Back To The Future collection, Ghostbusters collection and the The A-team van. Nowadays, I have the complete Back To The Future collection, the Ghostbusters collection of the first movie, the The A-Team van, the Knight Rider car and recently the 007 James Bond Aston Martin of Playmobil.
    I love to display these toys :)
    The Star Trek Playmobil toys are awesome too, but still a bit too expensive to me.
    Playmobil is really doing a good job making these franchise toys look good.
    Would be fun to see in the near future, Playmobil toys of: Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Magnum P.I., Miami Vice, The Fall Guy, The Dukes Of Hazzard (probably will be too difficult to do the Dodge Charger with the Confederate flag, boss Hogg's car an Roscoe's police car), more The A-team toys (like the Corvette, the military Plymouth (colonel Decker's car), etc.), Thunderbirds, etc.

    I don't love (or dislike) their figures, but I do love Playmobil for doing what they're doing, and I'd never let the figures stop me from buying a set that grabbed me. Good on them for taking risks without hesitation or cutting corners, and good on Retroblasting for celebrating them.

    I wanted the Kreo one, but it was JJ Trek version. I would love to have the playmobile one.

    Figure/vehicle compatibility has been a lost art. Glad that Playmobil knows how to do it.

    "Ilia's theme" is the overture to the motion picture. In the director's cut it plays over an aft view of a starfield moving away from the camera. There's a questing, longing quality to the music that makes me think that, that is V'ger heading toward earth.
    After the main title the tone changes when she encounters the Klingons. I tend to think their attack is what made her hostile and V'ger doesn't seem innocent again until the probe takes over Ilia and she's back to her longing to "join" with the creator and Ilia's theme represents both her and V'ger. Its incredible music, nonetheless.

    Love your review of this, I hope Playmobil keeps up the good work. Also agree with you for those that are demanding Playmobil change how the toys are scaled or how the figures look, How about they demand Hasbro, Playmate, or other toy companies make better items. Instead of wagging your tails saying this is the bestest thing ever every time they release a sub par playset, vehicle, or figure. How do you do this, easy do not buy them, hit these place in the pocket book, and they will get it, that they need to do better.
    Playmobil is taking the risks on old IPs, using thier money, not asking the fans too fund them. Unlike every HasLab go fund me project. They also try to make sure they have enough so you can buy them too, Unlike Hasbro who only makes a little, even after they get the money from fans.

    I think the ship itself could stand to be a bit bigger, the saucer looks out of proportion and it would have given the chance for a transporter room. Other than that. . .i want this so badly now, i am genuinely impressed and it looks awesome on so many other levels. But. . .a Lego nock off (which i can't remember) did an enterprise for the 2009 movie that also did this, so playmate isn't the first, but definitely has done the best so far! Thanks a lot, because now i really want this XD.

    You've forgotten, or perhaps ignored, that there also exist shuttles (a LOT of them) in Star Trek and their toy models would definitely be scalable to figures, but I do get your point anyway and see where you were coming from.
