Can almost hear the sounds and smell the Bel-ray. They were looking back a great time to be a young man chasing a dream! Thanks for posting
I was there! It was interesting watching Bob Hannah on a 125 again. Jeff Ward was awesome that day. I think Kenny Keylon ran away in the first 250 moto. Barnett fell and even with a severely bent handlebar, salvaged a top 5 in moto 1, running away in moto 2. It was magical watching heroes like Glover in practice and in the race. Great memories. Thanks for sharing!
Nice work! I see inverted forks on the yz250 #6. Long live 2 strokes!
Also right at the end I noticed that Broc's exhaust was on the opposite side to RJ's. Maybe RJ was on a water cooled bike and I think Broc's bike was air cooled. I will need to check. Sweet forks, just like Brad Lacky's in the GPs.
Thanks for posting
There is literally no shot where Hansen doesn't look perfect
Bummer his career ended just as he was reaching his prime
Nice pic....top quality.
These Vids are Makin Me Very Happy Dav-o
Keylon kicked ass on Shu's works bike while he had it that year, got to see him go 1-1 at Sunshine on it.
Love the Kawasaki n ktm bubble backs
the last few years this historical track existed it was surrounded by 8ft high chain link fence like a prison yard to keep spectators from standing trackside.smh, what a shame.us locals could race on this track 2nd and 4th sundays i think it was, back in the day.now its totally gone
Ha ha, was the fence there to protect the riders from the fans, or the other way around? !
Hi David. Do you recall any details about this race? I am trying to figure out if this was the race I attended back then. If so, this was my first Motocross event I attended, a year later, I was racing Maicos. Anyway, it seems to me that this race was the last AMA National at Whitney (or was it GNCC?). I was living in Lufkin at the time. I do recall the trophy presentation was delayed somewhat because we were waiting for Roger Decoster to be drop off by helicopter. Do you recall this event? Thank you Sir!
Booger Bear This could have been the last AMA national at LW, I’m not sure about that.
Roger would not have raced this event since it was a national. He was probably retired from racing in ‘82, so he could have been at the trophy presentation for other reasons. I don’t remember the helicopter, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. That’s for sure! There are other Lake Whitney races on my channel. Thanks for your interest.
No way a GNCC event.
Thanks for the nostalgia Mr. Lack.
I was at this race. It was the first time I attended an AMA National. I was 17 years old and couldn't believe I was seeing the legends, Hannah, O'Mara, Barnett and Bailey among others! In the 125 class Barnett crashed and bent his handlebars which you can see in a couple of these photos where he also has his goggles off. This is not the last AMA National held at LW. I attended another one in 1983 or 1984. Thanks for posting!
@@dekebike I believe 1983 was the last year LW held a national. I know that because Ward, Omara, Barnett and Lechien rode the 125 class that day.
@@rogershipman3578 was there also
Works bikes! Drum brakes! Open face helmets! Hannah on a ....125? What planet was this race at
I was there, and Hannah was FAST on that 125. Had huge leads.
@@codjh9 that's something , you got to see the hurricane race, I've been to Washougal for 125/500 natls,91, 92&93 saw Wardy & Cooper win .& The day Bayle broke his arm , stopping a serious hot streak.but seeing Hannah on a works 125, tops my claim!
@@richardkey4289 Well hey, you saw Bayle... I might've seen Cooper; I know I saw Wardy early in his career. But yeah, although I don't remember a lot of details, I very clearly remember being by a stretch of whoops at Whitney, no other spectators near, and all of the sudden Hannah comes around a corner and just screamed across those whoops, like barely touching the tops of them.
I don't remember it well, and was quite the mudder, but saw DeCoster, Lackey, Weil, and many other greats at the Trans-AM at Rio Bravo (Houston) in 1972.
@@codjh9 you got to see the , maybe not first wave, of u.s. pros, but the ' evolution' age of American MX, some of the heaviest punchers in history & stacked starting lines, & wild bikes
Had a friend who never believed me when I told him Hannah rode a 125 in '82.
Anybody know were to get mesh front number plate?? I need yellow w black mesh
If you can locate one in Europe, CP France products can still be found on eBay occasionally. I have one on my 1998 YZ250 on my channel. Got it from Europe. The mesh number plates were always my favorite.
I have a 1982 cr 125
