- I got my FIRST POINTE SHOES EVER on my 30th birthday! This was the most special day of my life. I went to my first pointe shoe fitting in Bloch's flagship store in NYC on my birthday. You may be wondering, can adults get on pointe? I'm living proof that yes! You absolutely can!
I'll be taking you behind the scenes of what happens at a pointe shoe fitting, what pointe shoes I ended up getting and how I celebrated my 30th birthday with a "30 Going on 13" party!
If you're not sure what happens at a pointe shoe fitting, don't be nervous! It's very simple, easy and pretty fun! Today you'll get to see exactly what happens at your first pointe shoe fitting EVER!

Hi there! I'm Veronica, welcome to my beginner dance journey. When I was 17, I was told by a teacher that I would never be a ballerina. I let that thought control me for YEARS but now, in my late 20s, I moved to New York City and I'm finally starting ballet late. This is a space for me to document the ups and downs of learning how to do ballet in my 20s and show anyone that it's never too late to live your dreams.

It concerns me your teacher didn’t know about the sole style. I feel like that should have been obvious.
Thank you so much! To give a bit more context, the pointe shoe fitters explained that it's actually common for teachers to be concerned about the split sole/shank construction (especially more traditional teachers seeing an uncommon style). My teacher's main concern is keeping me safe and since my feet are flexible but not very strong yet, she was afraid they might break if they weren't sturdy enough to support me.
It's difficult when the teachers and pointe shoe fitters can't communicate with each other and only have me as a middle man, when I'm not fully educated on all the terminology and what not. But once I was able to better explain what the pointe shoe fitters explained to me, my teacher was fully on board.

Pointe shoes are so beautiful!! I'm so happy for you! This took me right back to being 12 years old and my ballet teacher telling 6 of us at the barre that we were ready for pointe. I was so incredibly excited. I wore out my first pair in 2 weeks because I wore them every minute I could!
I hope you can find someone to help you sew your ribbons and elastic.

I usually wear Bloch for my soft shoes and love them. And then my teacher recommended Bloch as one of the best for pointe shoes too! I figured I'd start there and I couldn't be happier :)
Also, YES my fitter was soooo sweet. She had such a calming presence about her and was super knowledgable

Yes of course! those videos are coming. Like I said, I wasn't able to dance on them until they were approved. I'll be dancing in them for the first time this week so there's a lot to look forward to :)
