The Clay Way hey so the lines that I disconnected on the radiator is that to the transmission fluid or steering pump fluid? Also do I have to do any special in terms of replacing the fluid or do I just reconnect the lines??
Really appreciate this video. My 19 yr old son bought himself a 2013 F150, and had the radiator crack on him. He didn't have the $1000 to take it to a shop, and we used this video to do it at home in about 4 hours. Very helpful, clear descriptions, and good video shots of the "gotcha" areas. Thannks!
I replaced my radiator yesterday with this fine video playing on a laptop in the garage. This was not hard to do at all. In reality, it was easier than video shows. Highly accurate procedure. Thank you.
This video is a lifesaver! Replaced the radiator no problem... with one cavet WARNING to my fellow home mechanics, have some kind of rubber stopper or connector cap for both ends of the power steering line. Power steering fluid WILL creep back through the system from the reservoir and leak out of that connector in the condenser or the hose. Also something to take note of, just like how the condenser sits in little hooks on the radiator, so does the radiator fan assembly. Make sure its in the hooks or you can bend/snap the frame when you tighten it down. edit: Dont be a fool like me and use paper towels to plug the connector ends! Not only did it leak right through the paper towel, i almost got a huge chunk stuck INSIDE the condenser when I accidentally pushed it in too far. Was able to extract it with a crudely fashioned barbed paper clip and a lot of patience.
Thank you Thank you Just did this replacement. The tricky part is the plastic tabs and hooks. Had my son help. The old radiator hooks can be broken off because the new radiator has the same hooks. Definitely pull the fan assembly out. Tried to just push it back but that was a no go. Don’t over pay for a new radiator especially if your vehicle is out of warranty. These things are simple parts and should cost around $100-$200 new.
I know this video is a year old, but it was amazingly helpful. I have an 09 King ranch and the radiator had a huge hole on it. I've never worked on Fords much at all and would have never known about those clips that hold the radiator to the condenser along with a few other things you pointed out. I literally had the old one out and new one back in in an hour and a half. Thanks for making this video man.
Just did 2012 with ecoboost. It was pretty simple like you showed. There is no power steering to mess with. Just some turbo hoses that get in the way. You can do it just as you showed with AC intact. Thanks!😅
So Clay I am trying to put my lower radiator hose back on my 09 5.4 triton at the radiator. My question is; does the retaining clip need to be on the hose before it is pushed on or after the hose has been pushed on? Thanks for your help!
Well I put the clamp on the end of the hose then squeeze the clamp and slide the hose on and the clamp at the same time. Sorry it’s a little bit late answer hope you got it
@@sharpcarco well I ended going back to the beginning of your video when you pried the retainer clip out and then you said to just put it back in the hose and then just slide it on the radiator and it worked perfect! I had a new hose so it was a much tighter fit and I had to put Vaseline on the inside ring to get it on. Thanks for that video I never would have got it back together without calling a mechanic without your video 👍
I replaced my 2009 Ford F150 Radiator. I noticed on the right side bottom there was a small downward spout. Did I forget a hose there or is that one left open on purpose?
Thanks for making this video. My 2011 f150 has developed a leak on the drivers side lower corner of the Radiator. Ford said it needs to be replaced and I was quoted over $1200 cad. Buying one online (motorcraft) and going to give it a go myself. Little more involved then I thought, but with this video I'm sure I can figure it out.
How can I remove and replace the lower radiator hose? So hard to get to at the engine 😫 please help. And thanks for this video it really helped! 2010 5.4 same as in this video
Dude, after watching this video I thought I would do one myself since I have done a few and this one seemed a bit hard to follow if I am being honest. After about 10 minutes of filming I stopped because it can't be done much better. There are sooooo many fricking hidden clips and hard to reach ones. You were moving around a lot cause, well...you need to move around a lot to "find the hidden clips". I am waiting on my new radiator to arrive, but at least the old one is out. i did end up taking off the power feed for the horn to make it a little easier to get the new one back in. Overall it's not a real hard job, just tedious as heck and you did a solid job with the video. AE
@@sharpcarco Why Ford decided to put that cable assembly right on top of the radiator is beyond me. What a bad design. That could have been off to the side somewhere making the removal a lot easier.
How can I tell if my Ford F-150 crew cab 2010 5.4 l motor is super cool radiator or a regular radiator? Can anybody please answer me that question and thank you for the video will subscribe and follow
Well you should be able to ask the folks at the parts store how you can tell the difference between the different kinds More than likely one of the radiators will have transmission cooler lines and oil cooler lines. And one of the radiators will not have them. That’s probably the difference but you should call them and ask them they’ll be able to tell you exactly what to look for
That’s not so bad I also have video on how to get that off Quickly just look under five minute fan removal Just be careful if you do that procedure not to dig in the nut too much. You’ll understand after you watch the video
The Clay Way hey so the lines that I disconnected on the radiator is that to the transmission fluid or steering pump fluid? Also do I have to do any special in terms of replacing the fluid or do I just reconnect the lines??
Some of time there is power steering and transmission lines and sometimes oil lines you’re gonna have to visually look at them to tell the difference. I can’t remember exactly what’s connected here on this particular application. you shouldn’t of lost enough fluid to be consequential. But if you did then you need to check it I’m sorry I can’t really answer the question that you’re asking I wish I could help
Check out this video if you're having bad battery drain in your F150!

I have the same problem in the same truck, 09 KR. Can I ask you in what side of your radiator was the hole? Mine it’s in the truck’s battery side.
Shoot. I got a hole in my 2018. I'm so glad they moved the power steering reservoir
Thank you ! you saved my bacon trying to get my radiator out of my 2013 Expedition
That’s cool David thanks for letting me know brother welcome to the channel we’re happy to have you
Ive never seen a video with so much information 🤣 thanks!
Thank you . Would of had a bad time changing this without this video

Facing the truck, the top and lower side hoses on the right are for what fluid?
Oh……. I don’t remember transmission or oil obviously…… I will say however if you didn’t unhook it it should go directly to where it supposed to go

No That’s the spout for the coolant to drain out when you open the petcock I believe from your description
Hey bro wondering if radiator in 2015 f-150ecoboost 2.7 can be removed without evacuating a/c

Great video Clay. Just what I needed and you explain it perfectly!
How long should this radiator replacement project take by doing it myself at home? Im a handy guy so I think I can manage this myself.
Took me about six hours with filming so I would think 2 to 4 hours

Hey Ford, Why move away from using the common cap head screw? Save a buck?
Follow the 10 commandments Christians and ask for forgiveness and repent from your sins!!

Oh yeah, what Step was that?
