This movie is a masterpiece. It nearly got nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. It was shortlisted. If india had sent it as it’s official entry, Jhodaa Akbar would have received Best Foreign Language Film. You guys must check this one out. It’s a very lengthy movie so probably take a few breaks when watching it but let me tell you not even a single scene is boring..that really well made

I remember watching this in theatre. Wasn't taking it seriously when the song started but by the time it finished, everyone in the theatre was just mesmerized by it.

The whirling is a kind of Muslim sufi worship, the hand facing upward means connecting to Allah & the lower one with the earth (and it's people). Simply u can say connection with divine power is portrayed in this song.

What lady told is correct... Dervish is typical term used by Persians and Turkish people... Dervish are one sect of Sufis... The dance type and the skull cap type signify they are specifically DERVISH...

This song plays at the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar's marriage to Rajput Princess Jodhabai. Most girls in India across religions cry at the time because they're parting from their parents and friends. After their wedding, they would have to go far away to their husbands' family homes. This was particularly true in older times because distances were often so great that girls didn't know when they would meet their families next. Jodha was even more tearful because she was a Hindu princess getting married to a Muslim king she didn't even know because of political compulsions.
Rahman the composer of this is also singing in the background for it - it is his voice that leads thiss like a prayer - and they twirl like a form of meditation

@shubam kale Sufism actually is not a sect, is a spiritual element within Islam, that you can find in the sunnah as a way to achieve Ihsan (spiritual perfection, which is the highest state in our journey as Muslims of getting to know God)
i didnt believe this stuff once but one day i got like so many heartbreaks and was just remembering god alot and near my house someone have this sufi night or something. i started to listen and i didnt know where i was my whole body was like feather and i was so free relaxed and i just started to move with the beats like i wasnt focusing it at all. this is rumi meditation it requires u to let the meaning delves into the self.
