THIS was one of the MOST INFORMATIVE and helpful videos I've seen yet. I will definitely be looking for more videos by you about sewing. I've been sewing (basic items) for decades and did not know there were so many different types of elastic!! I have never sewn with knits before, but can see how the right elastic would be crucial for efficiency usage. THANK YOU!! :)
great video, thank you so much!! I usually just buy whatever i can find in the local store that is of the required width, it's so helpful to know what to look for now!
Really helpful - I've been working on tops and panties for a while and trying out different elastics for comfort. What I have found the best for around my waist on panties is stretch lace!
Been sewing a long time but look forward to these videos every month. I learn something every time. The elastic tutorial was amazing. Thanks for the detailed explanation and tips.
Omg...Thank YOU for this informative visual of which elastic is appropriate for specific types of garments....By the way WHERE can one obtain the childlike mannequin on the wall unit?
Great information! After a few seconds I realized I needed to be taking notes so I could refer back to it. I didn't think I would learn so much from a short video on elastic. Thank you for the great content!
Thanks for the information. You’re the best! Cool, now our Sleekzsters will feel the knit elastic in addition with Velcro on latest edition Sleekz®️ 2.0. Time for me to create the official prototype with my bare hands. Where’s my needle kit? Lol Stay Sleeked 🎮
Hi! Great information in there : it makes things much clearer, thank you! But I do have a question : swimwear elastic IS a braided elastic and we DO sew it with 2 passes of zigzag for swimsuit. But we should not, according to its characteristic ? Is there something different with that type of elastic that makes this possible ?
I still don’t know what type of elastic to buy for my fitted sheets because my sheets keep falling off at night and I don’t know which ones will keep my sheets on my bed! Can u recommend what I should I use?
Haley. Thank you for an informative video. I would like to know the name of dress pattern you are wearing - black dress. Please please a snippet video on different types of knits.
I am trying to secure a wrap dress neckline made from Ponte knit. I haven't been able to find clear elastic local, do you have a suggestion for another elastic that will work? If not then I will try Amazon
Is there a dull of thumb to determine the amount of length you can reduce your elastic for waist measurment before sewing it together (for casting) or sewing it to your garment?
There isn't a standard rule of thumb. It depends on how stretchy your elastic is and how tightly (or loosely) you want the waistband to fit. The best way to determine that is to simply put the elastic around your waist and figure out what feels comfortable to you.
Hi! What brand of elastic has the stretchiest elastic? The brands in the store seem to vary some are stretchier than others within the same brands. You mentioned you like to buy it in the store by the yard are you just going to local sewing stores or are chain sewing stores that do that too? Thx
I get whatever my local store has. Generally the variations in stretch are small enough that it doesn't greatly impact my project. If it is less stretchy than you want, just use a longer piece. Hope that helps!
This was so helpful.Well explained and interesting. I know it used to be artistic to film for the person not looking at you when talking but I find it irritating.I want to see the person looking at me when talking,so could you, please,do this in future. Thanks
You could use just about any elastic to make a scrunchie! You'll just want to think about how much the elastic you're using stretches, and use a piece that is a good length to hold your hair sufficiently. You might want to watch our scrunchie video: th-cam.com/video/GdZrsOK0MIs/w-d-xo.html
I wish I watched this before I made my last PJ shorts. The elastic is so weak the shorts just FALL OFF. 😳 Luckily I can simply replace the elastic since it is in a casing.
It helped so much to not only see the elastic, but see the sample garment too.
So glad you found it helpful!
61 years of sewing and I still find these videos and tips informative. Some tips I forgot, and some I never even knew. Good video
Yay! Glad it was helpful!
Great content! The music gets in the way of the content though. Thank you for these informative videos!
Keep up the good work! We need more high quality sewing content here on the tubes!
Thanks so much :)
I thought elastic was just elastic. I never knew any of different kinds of elastic. I am so intrigued. ... ty

1/4″ braided elastic works great! Have you checked out our video tutorial for scrunchies? th-cam.com/video/3GNFPaoDGRU/w-d-xo.html
I need Elastic to put into a waistband made for pj's .a stretchy non folding type , I usually get rolls because I can't get to stores please help.
I'm sure you could find something suitable online!
I wish I watched this before I made my last PJ shorts. The elastic is so weak the shorts just FALL OFF. 😳 Luckily I can simply replace the elastic since it is in a casing.
Thank you ji...
You're welcome!
which elastic to use for making hair ties?
Fold over or banded elastic could work. If the elastic is being inserted into a scrunchie, 1/4" braided elastic works well.
I know subtitles are there to help but sometimes they get in the way of seeing things. Does anybody else have this ptoblem or is it just me?
You can turn subtitles off by clicking the CC icon in your video player.
im not sure what type to use for scrunchies. ive purchased braided elastic but its not as stretchy as store bought scrunchies.
I like to use 1/4" elastic! - Sienna
She explained abt all types of elastic yet when asked abt best type to be used for scrunchies she is saying width rather than type.
Great video. Music is distracting; competes with your voice.
This is an old video. Our new videos do not have background music.
helpful video, I would have enjoyed it much more without the music, it almost made me turn off the video.
I couldn't watch the video bc the music was too loud and distracting. :(((
