Well, I'm happy that a younger generation is inspired by the young American Caruso, Maestro Mario Lanza. This fellow has learned of Mario Lanza and channels that energy well. So Bravo here and the voice of our dear Mario is not superceded; Mario’s legacy is a standard!
Who are the 19 fools, who clearly don’t understand music, who gave this the thumbs down. This is not even a matter of opinion. Empirically speaking, it’s a sublime performance. If you understood anything about singing, you’d know that.
An amazing performance, and a very talented singer. Not that I wish to criticise this gent, but no one sings that song like Mario Lanza. The diversity in his voice while singing was simply unique, and I doubt we will hear the likes of it ever again.
He sure was beeming with satisfaction and well deserved applause, like thinking: "I´ve paid my dues....I´m at the top!"....Yes, Mr. Castronovo, you´ve reached the stars. Wish you a long and fruitful singing career!
I can only press "like", but really I adore, completely. Thanks Mum and Dad for taking me to the Student Prince when I was little and introducing me to this music
Yes he did an excellent job, serenade is a difficult song to sing, but with the coras in the backround, they actually enhance the beauty of the song. but the song belongs to the great mario lanza, with his golden voice thank you charles castronovo, in recognition of mario, god bless. Louie Vaccaro, tenor las vegas..
I concur. It's rare these days to hear of another with an appreciation for operetta. I've loved operetta since I was a child. We live in shallow, crass times. Thank you for posting, gesaporiti.
In the Met Charlie was allowed to sing only once, in Magic Flute. Mathew Polenzani.was taken to the Met permanent stuff instead. Mathew was working very- vry hard to prove that he was hired not accidentally. And, indeed, in some operas he was able to raise to yhe occasion.Too bad, that Met was unable to keep Charlie as well.....
Magnificent singing! Although this was billed as a Hollywood concert, Castronovo sang the original Broadway lyrics. For the film version, the producers faced a copyright dispute as to using the original lyrics, and the songs were revised for the movie. Mario Lanza sang the Serenade in the movie, and, as terrific as it is, his version always seems a bit jolting to those of us who cherish the original as performed on Broadway, and in (sadly infrequent) stage revivals. Kudos all around to John Wilson and Charles Castronovo! How about a staged version of The Student Prince at a Prom?
Which version does William Olvis sing in the 1954 biopic of Romberg? It is the definitive performance of this song, much better than Lanza's, who is overrated anyway.
I like his version, more operatic than the movie. He sings as tenor leggero and Castrovo has a splendid voice, amazingAlfredo with Nathalie Dessay in Aix en Provence. His diction in French is perfect or it' S difficult for English speaker to open the vowels.I see and hear him next month as Don Jose.In Italian he is also perfect
Sublime. Operetta is my favorite musical format. The lyrics are poetic, romantic, tender, passionate. So wonderful to hear Romberg`s beautiful music showcased by this wonderful singer. thanks for sharing with us. Lorraine
My love for operetta began as a child, the first time I listened to Harry Stockwell(the voice of Prince Charming) sing "One Song" in Disney`s "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". I listen to different genres of music, but operetta is my special favorite for the reasons I stated in my original posting. Lorraine
Comparing this sublime rendition to Mr Castronovo's superlative recording with Angela Gheorghiu of the popular song Non ti scordar mai di me at the Berlin Konzerthaus makes me wish for a CD release for him in this particular repertoire. It is a perfect marriage of vocal talent and song choice. Record producers please take note ...
Though some listeners to this fantastic rendition of Charles Castronovo's of this beautiful piece may criticize his diction and intensity of tone, he is superb in his performance. Yes, Mario Lanza may have sung this song well, but Charles provides a vibrato that seems unmatched to any other singer. His strength of voice as he holds a note is excellent and is not overdone, as Lanza has shown at times. I can see that Charles has studied his music well. His diction is clearer than any other I have heard. My analysis of this heartfelt rendition overwhelms the emotions. Mr. Castronovo gives this piece exactly what it deserves, and more. Bravissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Poly, you said "His diction is clearer than any other I have heard". Have you not listened to Lanza? There is no one with clearer diction than Mario.
I suggest you listen to Lanza's definitive version again? Charles' vibrato is so old school and difficult to listen to while Mario's is sublime, sung like a song instead of Charles' almost operatic take on what is a classic operetta version
Greetings from New Zealand, this guy Charles gets knocked by so many but his rendition is beautiful strong and the soft notes stunning, almost as good as Mario Lanza..Charles diction is wonderful, that note on die is beautiful, hope everyone is keeping safe out there...
Overall, a very fine performance of the Serenade, but marred slightly by an almost whispered low note and a spread in the vibrato on the sustained high note, which is sung here as a B-flat. A young tenor with this much potential and stage presence should have a fine career.
Charles Castronovo has such a wonderful voice!
I saw this at the proms it was just unbelievable I was overwhelmed what a voice. Never heard anything like it. Everyone was trafixed ❤
Шикарное исполнение,. Браво!!! ♥️
What an exquisite and magnificent performance! The audience and orchestra were enthralled. Bravo Sr. Castronovo!

I watched him sing this on television, I recorded it and have watched it so many times. I am hooked on his voice it's brilliant!
It gives me the shivers each time I hear this, fantastic singer and wonderful orchestra.
This is a beautiful love song. The operetta is very romantic too. Romberg wrote beautiful music.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER WRITTEN
WOW! This mans voice just takes my breath away. Charles Castronovo is an absolute joy to listen and this performance was just excellent, excellent xx
+Julie Biddle I was going to make a comment, but you said it for me. Thanks

Another beautiful love song from the student Prince is Deep In My Heart
I saw this live on the TV and I loved it so much - great to listen whenever I want!
Superior performance, nothing like it!..... Enjoyed it immensely!
An amazing performance, and a very talented singer. Not that I wish to criticise this gent, but no one sings that song like Mario Lanza. The diversity in his voice while singing was simply unique, and I doubt we will hear the likes of it ever again.
Tanto volume ma nessuna dolcezza e musicalità come Mario Lanza! Il suono della sua voce sarà sempre ineguagliabile!
He sure was beeming with satisfaction and well deserved applause, like thinking: "I´ve paid my dues....I´m at the top!"....Yes, Mr. Castronovo, you´ve reached the stars. Wish you a long and fruitful singing career!

I went with my Grandmother and was completly in love with both Lanza and Purdom!
What a beautiful memories!!
Charles Costronovo is a commensurate Opera singer. He sings this with such passion. I loved Mario Lanza singing it in the, “Student Prince”.
Interesting: he sings it better than Lanza, and looks as good as
Edmund Purdom!
Donald Kane - 😆 😝 😂 😜 🤣

Per noi ben si addice il motto SEMPER FIDELIS👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bravo Charles.
The man, the suit, the song, the orchestra. Wow
I was there. Right in front of him.
And don’t forget The Maida Vale chorals.
The sheer artistry of the songwriting and the performance are simply sublime.
Love it, love his voice.
wow !! so great - thank you - memories of my mother xx
The orchestration is very pretty. His high B-flat is well executed. Very nice indeed.
What a shame that today’s youth do not gain the joy of this beautiful music.
Some do.
I do! Thanks to my Mum for playing this music for me in the womb.
Beautiful x
I do
Ivan Jovicevic me too
So lovely.
I am glad the young tenor sings some of Mario Lanza's blockbuster songs, I also like his rendition of this song. Keep it up.
i think he's better than mario.
@@jerrylyons9279Not Really. Very close.
Wonderful!
I hear many tenors sing this one a bit too tinny. This guy nails the proper vocal tone.

Beautiful
My late godfather, Danny Shea used to love this most beautiful song.
He is such a wonderful singer!!

absolutely sublime, thank you
Maravilhoso, belíssima voz e linda ópera
Castronovo, nessuno canta questa Serenade come Mario Lanza!
perfettamente d'accordo.
Mario has encouraged this fellow. A new generation is inspired by our American Caruso, Maestro Mario Lanza!
My two favourite tenors without doubt Mario Lanza and Jussi Bjorling but this voice has something wonderful about it !
Wonderful Tenor
God, am I jealous! What a glorious voice, soaring to the stratosphere, and he is blessed with a fabulous face. Get thee to the Met!

Lustiger Kommentar, 😊seit fast 70 Jahren, ist kein neuer Lanza gekommen und wird auch nicht kommen 😅.
Human voice puts everything to shame! What a delight!
beautifully sung......
BRAVISSIMO !!!!!!!!
I really like his rendition of this most beautiful song. I bet he is a Lanza fan himself.
Complimenti per la tua voce. Tuo padre Filippo ne deve essere orgoglioso.Auguri per la tua carriera.
BEST version ever! Sinks the Mario Lanza version like the Titanic!
Bravisimo Castronovo!💐

Charles is arguably the world's best living tenor. AMAZING!

Je vous aime beaucoup et toujours, Charles Castronovo.
Here come the tears. Damn you tear ducts!
Grandissimo!
This was live when recorded. You can't do any better.
This is called a soaring voice why is he not at the metropolitan opera house?!!
Endlich ein Spitzensänger nach Mario Lanza, der diese Serenade mit Emotion und herrlicher Tenorstimme interpretiert. BRAVO !!!
Yup, I just love him. So pure and strong without the operatic posturing.
He's an opera singer (I've heard him live in an opera.), but he knows how to adjust his style of singing for other genres.
Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One advantage of a microphone is that tenors don’t have to shout.
Castronovo the Prince, Lanza the King.
Yes, yes YES !!!!

I enjoyed the performance . The best recording of this by far is the Australian Tenor Donald Smith -have a listen .
😂.
Not sure what the orchestra did there at the end but it was a wonderful performance other than that.
