Achenseebahn - Jenbach & Seespitz - June 2023... and August 1986 !!

  • Linda and I visited in June 2023.... great to see it back in action after financial problems during Covid.
    We last saw it, and rode on it, back in 1986 and 1987 when we toured in our 1965 VW Split Screen Panel Van. I've included a short clip from 1986 showing a locomotive powering up the incline... such a great sound !!
    The Achensee Railway is a 6.78 kilometres (4.21 mi) long metre gauge railway running between Jenbach and Seespitz on Lake Achen in Tyrol (Austria). Within its length it rises some 440 metres (1,444 ft) in height, with the steeper sections using the Riggenbach rack system. It is Europe's oldest cog railway which is still steam operated.

    Thanks for bringing bqack memories of the time I travelled on this railway. My partner and I were suprised to see butterflys flying fast then the train when it was going uphill.
