If you have 2 extra routers laying around you can add them to your existing Home network to improve your wireless coverage range and network performance! Thank you for watching!
I have a different issue and I wonder if you can help.
I have four older computers that are powerful and pretty great for processing video etc. But they won't accept Windows 11. Is it possible to set them up on a 2nd router and block ALL Internet traffic IN and OUT of that 2nd router? That way I can keep using them, and ALSO be able to access them from the rest of my home network. But they won't need Windows security updates. And there's no danger of them accidentally connecting to the Internet.
Otherwise I'll just set them up on an old router, with NO connection to my main network. So they can communicate with EACH OTHER, but not with any other systems directly, at all.
Are there any videos on adding fully wireless routers? Basically extras serving as ap's? So that we don't have to plug up routers to the main router, it's fully fully wireless?
Hey Mike, I am an IT student taking Server and Networking Administration, and I find this video very informative and and educational. Would like to thank you and please do make more videos .
I've got over a hundred videos on Networking and Computer builds! Enjoy and thank you for watching!
for the people who arent super techie you should have explained why you were turning off DHCP. you cant just say do this trust me without proper explanation.
Whats the reason behind it?
Amazing🙌🏼
Hi there, it was a very useful and informative tutorial video. thnx
Thanks mate for the useful information!!
Any time!
Handy tutorial. Thanks Mike
Thanks for watching Tony!
I have a zyxel router I live in a apartment complex with 5 floors I'm on the 2nd floor, what channels do I use for 2.4 & 5 ghz? With only 50 mbps?
Please tell me how can i connect same model routers like Tplink Ax23 if i connect like 1st router ip is 192.168 8 and 2nd is .168.80 or dhcp its own rang so then 3rd router is i connect its create problem wifi shows line like no internet conection. I also used cross connection
What is the best way to set up a wifi mesh system where I have 150 lights on wifi, 32 cameras, 8 TVs and 7 computers along with various appliances, door locks and other clients?
So each router changes to different ip ? I didn't get it ! If i have 5 routers and 5 computers so can i change my ip by 5 routers on same main router ?
really it’s super unique job Mike, you who only talk about this wonderful simple explaining way to connect 3 routers to overcoming dead spots in big homes ,but my question can you advice me for any changing steps if my main router has only dual channels 2.4 & 5 GHz with no latest 6 wi fi as your main Asus Router AXE7800 only I have main old one RT-68 U ..thanks so much & so appreciated.
Are you asking about the channel numbers for each router on the 2.4GHz band?
Hi again Mike, what channel numbers for router 3 can I use ? U select ch.11 for 2.4GHZ what about 5GHz channel number can I use ? Pls I’m waiting you valued reply ..thx again
channel 44
Okay, Help Please, I want to do this, well I did it actually, so will this exact setup allow devices on all routers to communicate???
I have a storage shed and in that shed is a router on a system, that has many drives which I'd like to access from in the house. Mesh not an option.
Does this setup allow all devices to communicate no matter which router they are connected to???
Yes that should work. It may take some configurations on the router with the media. Good luck and keep me posted
Where did you connect the Ethernet cables on the new routers on the wan or lan port
LAN ports!
can i set all the SSID same on Router 1, Router 2 and Router 3 ? Im not prefer to have too many ssid, do you still fill the pppoe on R2 and R3 ?
Yes you can keep the same SSID across the APs. That's actually the way its done in business wifi networks. There's no need to add extra configuration like PPPOE. You have to keep in mind that the extra routers are not really doing any routing. They're just acting as wifi access points. Wifi has no concept of PPPoE or any of those internet standards.
My main router is located on the first floor and im using mesh but its unstable.. is there a way to configure a second router away from the main / on the 2nd floor 😅
Yes you could hardwire the second router and that would make it stable. Ethernet (cat5e or cat6) from LAN port on router 1 to LAN port on router 2. That's the best way.
What’s the benefit in connecting three routers together versus just installing two Wireless access points to the main router? I’m new to the channel just subscribed. I want to plan on setting up a network at my house with it’s own in wall cabinet like you show in your videos.
The benefit is if you have some old routers just laying around collecting dust you can use them as additional access points. Its a cheap solution. Otherwise WAPs are fantastic and I have 2 WAPs in my home - Netgear and Engenius. Thanks for subscribing and make sure to check out my other Home Networking videos!
Whats up mike this is guys😂💯
So with this config, no matter to which router i connect my PC using an ethernet to, it will get an automatic DHCP address? (obviously if dhcp is on on the PC)
Yes all connected devices ( wired and wireless ) will get an IP address from DHCP.
if the house is wired, can you accomplish the same by connecting router 2 and 3 to the internet jacks in the walls?
Yes as long as the other end of those cables connect into your main router.
I checked this video to learn if it's possible to extend WiFi like with Wifi extender, as router usually has stronger antenas, but it looks like I need direct cable to router 1 from other routers.
Is it possible to have your main network as 192.168... and add another router that offers 10.0.... range?
I built some esp32 based xmas lights that I need to be able to test under both private network ranges.
Yes you can do that.
1:24 quick question though. For router 2 wouldn’t we use .2.0 instead of .1.2? At what point do we use the next ip host address?
Nope. You want to keep the second and third router on the same network. You can have separate routers on separate networks but I wouldn't recommend it. Keep it simple.
@@UltimateTechHub oh. Thank you sooooo much dude! I struggled with this in school.
Nice setup. But I have a question. Will the wifi client device switch automatically between SSIDs based on the location in the house or do we need to do this manually on the client?
Should be automatic.
I have a different issue and I wonder if anyone can help.
On your tutorial for setting up two routers you changed the third value in the IP, and the fourth on this one. I may be getting that backwards (I’m commenting a few days after watching). Is there a reason for doing one vs the other?
In the 2 routers 1 Network, I accidently switched the 3rd octet, it should have been the 4th octet. I pinned a comment in the video that explained my mistake and also in the description. Switching the 3rd octet would create a new network which is ok if you want to setup your network that way.
Thank you for noticing that and asking me. I wish I could remake that video to fix my error but I can't.
Have a great day Pat!
@@UltimateTechHub Thanks for the clarification. I’m running into a new issue, where neither router has an internet connection.
I would reboot both routers and see if that fixes it.
@@UltimateTechHub thanks I will give that a try. As a follow up, it appears to only be my iPhone that is showing no internet when connected to either router
I had this before but today i decided to configure the routers to use LAN.
Because i feel like the main router is being blasted with requests. etc
So now, i have router 1 with 192....1.1
router 2 with 192.....2.1
router 3 with 192....3.1
they all have their wan ips to:
192.168.1.254 and 192.168.1.253
same as you but not 192.168.1.2 and 3
but all the pcs now locally have their own target network : 192.168.2.50 for eg on a pc connected to router 2.
My question is, is this a good idea? can i ping a pc on network 1? for eg 192.168.2.50 pings a pc on 192.168.1.70 ? How can i have all of this working?
I noticed that i can acces both my configuration page on 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.2.1 on a pc connected to the second router, but on a pc connected to the 3rd router i can only access 192.168.1.254
Is there a way to make this better?
is this also called Wifi Mesh Network?
If I daisy chain 4 routers, instead of ...say 3 or 2 routers, would it affect the whole network speed in general? The packet could need to jump to more than one hoop to reach its destination right?
Yeah, I believe a switch is more beneficial in such a case
So does this make my internet faster or just increases its range???
Increases the range.
What if router 1 has an ip address of 10.0.0.1? (comcast)
Use 10.0.0.2 for router 2, 10.0.0.3 for router 3.
Does this work with a router vpn
Yes.
Is the result is 1 single SSID or 3?
3 separate SSIDs. The issue with 1 single SSID is that your device will connect to the SSID it sees first and not by signal strength. And even when you walk around your home it may not connect to the strongest signal. With 3 separate SSIDs you can see each SSID and the signal strength and connect accordingly. I also have all 3 SSIDs set to automatically connect. It's pretty nice setup. It you want a true mesh setup then you need to buy a mesh system. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it.
@@UltimateTechHub thank you very much🌷🌷🌷🌷
Non of this coincide with my night hawk rax200.
My connection is 21.1
Can't chane or sect chanels
Someone else watches Smee :P
I don't see any reason why a person should do this. It just creates opportunities for network issues and degrades wireless performance - not because of channel selection, but because now you have 3 separate wireless networks. A much better setup would be to use mesh network devices.
(BTW 0:02 "What's up Mike, this is guys?")
If u have a 3story house, u can add 3 routers as AP's extenders and such.
I see the mesh network shills are here, hope you're getting paid well
@@HyperVerse0001 yes I understand that you can. But just because you can doesn't mean you should. It's not a good way to solve the problem.
@@LA-rl1luk👍
@@LA-rl1lu i have a room mate aswell as guests that connect to a second router so that it can be speed managed, that way if my roommate doesnt pay his share for the wifi (hes bad with money) or if someones trying to hog all the bandwidth then i can fully control what they have available to them, its possible to do this on a per device basis with a high end router like the ubiquiti dreammachines but im just using two basic "locked down" isp telstra routers and control the speed with a 48port gigabit switch connected in between the main router and the second router🙂
You can’t install three

Thanks for watching Paul! 😀
