Last week I went to my cabin and had 2 feet of snow on my outside dishy.
Fired up my generator and star link had me signal in 3-5 minutes.

Again another great video, although you went through it all so quick so going to have to watch it a few times to get my head round what you said and what you did. I use both wifi and hardwire (Cat7+) which at first was not to bad 70 to 80m on the DL and 12 to 15UL on the wired side and on the Wifi was around 150-200DL and 20 to 35UL. the cables all ran through the Starlink router but I couldn't get the SL mesh to sync in at all. I then ran from the SL Router through a Netgear GS305E then off to each of 3 pc's with one more still on wifi, over a couple of weeks the speeds remained a little improved and stable but still not what I expected so I re-organised the connections and changed the location of the SL router and the mesh started working just fine, Then I ran the SL router wired through the Switch and added a Netgear WAX206-WF6 AX3200 to handle traffic on 2 pc' and 3 cell phone - result: a lot better stability, speeds on the wired side have improved and no compromise on the wifi. As I explained before, here in France the walls of the house are up to 2.5 feet thick in volcanic rock and the ground floor ceiling is up to 3ft thick so in this part of the house, wifi is not an option. I havent yet set the switch up correctly, at the moment is running 'unmanaged'. Still have plenty of tweaks to do, but getting there. Mr Bevel is still in a lousy siting, perched on a table on the Terrace with about 50 to 60% obstructions by our house, a giant walnut tree and an old Volcano but, with these speeds........ whose complaining. Thanks again

I haven't finished the video yet, so not sure if you go over this, but the starlink should be put in passthrough mode so you get a public IP on both your primary and backup wan ports. If it works thats great, but you could be double natted on the AT&T connection. You should be given an ip of 100.x.x.x from the dish, and some other public ip on AT&T showing up on your multi-wan router.
Obstructions and weather haven't really been a huge issue for me, A few times when there was a HEAVY rain storm at the end of last summer it went down for a few minutes, but I haven't really tested it under snow clouds or deep snow yet, but I'm sure Ill get the chance before winter is over.
I'm still on a custom ethernet POE injector for powering the dish, so It will be interesting to see if the snow melt mode works although I anticipate no problems.

@@jcristina Very true for those who have needed to lengthen the cable! I'm actually a few feet shorter than the original cable and use a 10 amp power supply, so as long as the injector itself can handle the demand it should be okay.... haha gonna find out either way!

Yup, my Starlink has had obstruction issues on top of being on the Best Effort plan in FL... I have cut a ton of trees and mounted the dish 16' high and that has helped a lot.
Playing COD MW2 has been frustrating since it's crazy fast. This dual WAN is really cool, Only thing that would be better is if you could run both at the same time (maintaining a higher priority to Starlink) so there is no interruption when it switches.
Sure.. Set a load-balancing instead of failover. This work best with two fast connections.

Firewalla makes using a second isp, such as a Wi-Fi hotspot super easy.
Firewalla Purple has a single WAN and a single LAN ethernet port.
@@jcristina Right, but it has a wifi chipset in it that allows for a secondary/backup WAN connection! I've been running in this mode for a couple of months. The Gold allows for more copper connections, but still offers the WiFi as WAN with a usb adapter. Thus far, it has been working very well, and much cheaper than what I use in my office (Barracuda F18B (dual) with HA.

If your bank goes down? Have a card from another bank
Have a another card if it break, or stop working, get damage
Have a backup internet nowdays is a good idea
Have starlink and T-mobile, for eaxmple
Or verizon and at&t
If your have 5G home internet and your phone with 1 carrier
You won't have any connection if there is a problem

Excellent video. I'm currently using the starlink mesh (3 additional mesh nodes, or APs?). One of them almost never has signal and it is line of sight from the main router and less than 20' away. The other one gets 2.4GHz only and it is in a metal building 75' away. I'm wanting to run hardwire to all my mesh nodes. Can you provide feedback on whether I can do that with (4) starlink ethernet adapters using the existing starlink mesh nodes? Or, what mesh nodes would you recommend instead? Maybe your TP link mesh node video answers my question, but I thought you were recommending faster mesh options more recently. Blessings!

Another nice video, but it left me confused. On a previous video (several months ago, maybe September 2021) you recommended the same UTT ER840G 4 Port Internet WAN Router but it was not switching back after you reconnected Starlink. Now it is.
John, I returned the old unit and repurchased this one as so many people had questions about it. I'm guessing, the fixed the issue or the other unit for defective.

Great project Joseph, pretty sure others dont know how incredibly difficult it is to do what you have done with a $60 box. But the cat amungst the pidgeons question... when you put the starlink network back the switch was instantaneous, is there anyway you can improve the secondary at&t coming online? 5 to 10 secs downtime seemed a bit long to me.
You could run the system as a load-balance instead of failover, for sure. Also, it would be even better if the two connections were equally in Up/Down speeds.. Thanks so much David.. Many blessings!

@@jcristina yes..I would be interested in the better quality one when you do the review. I have our NBN satellite internet as the fall back its only 12mb dload and about 1 mb upload but the ping is 600ms. so its a pain. The starlink is my main unit but it does have shortish dropouts from time to time so I want the reasonable continuity just as you showed.. 500 US$ will be about AU$700 here but if its good it would be worth it

I now run the Starlink network setup you shared with the diagram for the TP-Link products - I am using the OC300 controller and the TL-SG108E switch from TP-Link as well as two EAP225. So far really great! If I use the UTT router where does it go in the diagram?

You have fantastic content. I had a thought, instead of testing by pulling the LAN have you considered blocking the dish from receiving signal? This would give a true real world test of your primary having a more realistic changeover need. You could also test the change back to the primary after you unblock the satellite.
I was thinking the same thing but need to get an extra set of hands here to do it.. Maybe happen sooner than later..

Just for info my Starlink has been rather unimpressive. My speeds have gotten slightly better over the last month but also picked up higher latency. I play a PS5 and recently added a PS5 for my son. It can't run 2 PS5s simultaneously. My speeds was stable and was consistent with latency at 20MB Down and 14Mb up now I'm at a very inconsistent 60mb down & 11pm up.

Awesome, I have been using a load balancing router since 2015 mainly to aggregate wireless services. But now it is using just 1 wireless provider as a failover for Starlink. I have noticed that I have to reboot Starlink every two weeks to keep it happy. Seems it will lose connection for an extended period of time every 3 or 4 weeks. Surely a simple and easy way to reboot Starlink every week or two? And is this really necessary? Thoughts? Great video and clear coverage and setup.

I just received and setup my Starlink using a 3rd party router (Asus RT-AX86U Pro). I set up the Asus using DHCP. I’m currently using Uverse (less than 6MBps). After I got my devices working wireless I figured it’s time to get computer going. I moved all my ethernet cables from AT&T modem/router to the Asus router. Computer has internet but my Blue Iris cameras has lost signal. So I switched computer back to Uverse for now. Do you think I should have set the Asus up using static IP? My current Uverse setup is using ZeroTier for security. Thank you for your videos on Starlink, it helps a lot.
You may need to reset the camera and require signal. As for a static IP. You don't need one unless you require access to device in your local network from the internet while way from the home/office.
Thanks to the reply. I do access the video feeds remotely using Uverse using Blue Iris app. It’s got to be the Asus router. Because when I hook the ethernet wires back to AT&T modem/router everything works. Just slow internet on Uverse. Thanks again

Great video! I got the “you live in a congested area so pay more” email. But, Starlink is still a bargain in rural New Mexico. I get 2 bars of ATT wireless LTE at the house, is thi good enough to use for a balanced network approach?
Yes. Anything is good enough as a backup as something is better than nothing and in tech we know that 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

Is there any conversation about building more POPS or ground stations? Who do we talk to? Still having great ratios in SW Colorado until mid-afternoon. Gets better after 2200 local. Supposed to get better next spring.

Thanks for the research. Amazon reviewers comment that UTT has gone out of business and is not responding to customers or updating firmware or maintaining a website. Does anyone know otherwise? And does anyone know of a way to take advantage of starlink's superior speeds (but with its cgnat problem for security cams) while also taking advantage of a slower IP providers static IP address?
The VPN I use provides a static ip and port forwarding which will work for your cams and any other inbound internet access ports you would like to open up.
@@jcristina I hear you and have been considering your good advice over the past few weeks but like the Adobe video says, these subscription costs begin adding up and since I am already paying for Starlink AND Verizon's public IP address internet service, I would prefer to take advantage of that if I can figure out how to do it with a multi-wan router.

They are very similar... This router is a bit of a more intuitive setup. "easier" IMHO both work well for their price.

Where my cell carrier was down for around 1 day
An update went wrong or something like that
In the morning
I had fiber at home from an another provider,
After some hours Wi-Fi call worked
But the cell network was first fully only again at night around 2 AM
All cell tower has to be rebooted slowly, and so on
Have WhatsApp, iMessage, and so on, come handy

Does Starlink still have support? I'm going on 2 weeks of every other day sending them a message and no answer. I don't think anyone works there.
I think the last time I heard they were days backed up.. 3-4 days people have been waiting... You even longer.. This needs to be fixed.

The only way currently is to go through your Starlink account page and start a customer service ticket. I've seen them up to 3 days behind.
I have dual providers on automatic changeover. And TH-cam still buffers the hell out of some creators, regardless of the pipe.
Mine started doing that about 3+ wks ago. Ticket started but no response after initial to chk several thinks. I believe it's a hardware problem but nothing from tech support

Absolutely.. Actually the AT&T feed that I'm using is coming into the studio through a mesh network and not a hardwire.

I do the same in Australia and have a 5G Backup. People complain but if Internet is so critical to you (Business Use) then have a backup.

This doesn't really "fix starlink" though, it's just adding a backup and automatic failover. The tip you gave on another video about power cycling the dishy forcing it to re-acquire satellites was about the only way to "fix starlink" at least temporarily.
And the router is $85 following the link you provided, not to mention the additional monthly cost for a 2nd ISP account.
Patrick its all click bait. Your right though its not a fix at all, this would be a nightmare for realtime applications. I am always entertained by all of these content creators that regurgitate the same information providing non value add to end users. First of all if you purchased Starlink you were aware that its a new tech and there would be problems. I was on the list for over a year and I am thankful for the service becasue I was only able to get DSL to me residence. Matter of fact I had to have three DSL lines to meet the requirements of myself, kids and wife. Sure I loose signal for a few seconds at a time, but it improves with each launch of SpaceX. Also the fact he says Starlink is over sold is completely inaccurate about it being the causes speed issues, etc. The problem is people cheating the system to get Starlink at address flagged not ready, or getting Starlink when there is proper broadband already available by other ISP. My case I was on the tail end of the line limits to get DSL and was stuck at the slowest speeds do to line noise.
Yes, it is a backup plan that automatically keeps your online even when Starlink or your primary ISP goes down. The cost is $62 from the link in the US.
It appears as $62 to me as a Prime member for what that is worth.

Nothing more than click bait riding the tails of Starlink and SpaceX popularity to get views. This is non value information and doest provide all the details on what the actual cost would be. Its a work around and not a solution for a super small percentage of end users. I have seen a growing trend of content creators desperately trying to come up with original and sustainable content. Its like there caught in this mentality that they have to have something each week to stay relevant.
@@DaFleaster I hear you and see a lot of that but I also find good content in this creators posts which cover a lot of the same life interests and problems that I have. I am already paying for two broadband providers in a rural area and appreciate JC taking the time to test various multi WAN routers and describe the setup process. In this new year wouldn't it be great to have a little less negativity :-). For example, I contacted a professional network tech who blogs on TH-cam and asked him some of the questions that have been answered on this blog here, and was surprised at how little that credentialed and certified network specialist actually knew. So I appreciate the good nuggets that I find here and appreciate that everyone also needs to make a living. Peace.
