Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends -- Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo -- have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape -- with the help of some prodigious penguins -- to explore the world.

The critics were wrong about this one. Growing up this was one of the more beloved animated films out there.

They don’t eat the millipedes, they just bite them to secrete their toxins, which they then get high on. They also rub the toxins on their fur to ward of parasites.

It's surprising to see how the quality increased with each film as well as its box office throughout the trilogy. The first Madagascar had a 54% on RT and grossed $542 million. Then the next film (Escape 2 Africa) saw an uptick in quality with a 64% on RT and $603 million worldwide. Lastly, the third film (Europe's Most Wanted), had even bigger increases with a 78% on RT and $746 million worldwide! It's honestly quite remarkable.
So EMW got the highest rating despite E2A being the better one. got it.

I think my favorite underrated joke is Alex's weird threat to Marty on the beach. Saying he'll kill, then clone him, then kill all his clones finishing it with "-and then... I'm never talking to you again!"
That little beat as if he just ran out of steam before finishing his rant, so ends it with the first thing to come to his mind
My favourite characters in the Madagascar franchise is definitely the penguins. I loved their spinoff movie and the spinoff show that Nickelodeon did about them .
They're like the minions of the Madagascar franchise.

Anyone else here also LOVED the special features in the dvd of this movie? Ik there were Over the Hedge and Wallace and Grommity trailer before the Menu of the movie AND the "DreamWorks kids" or something were there were a bunch of games like the Penguins scape, or the learn to drawa and others, or the "I like to move it move it" music video, and bunch of other stuffs, when I was a kid I wasnt into internet so I just loved to play the games and watch the making of and special features and trailers in these animated movies... This "Netflix, Disney plus" generation will NEVER know that feeling of watching a tons of trailers before the actuak movie and knowing all the dialogues of the trailers and then your parent buy to u the movies u saw in the trailers and u know some lines because of the trailers... Wow the Dinsey, Pixar and DreamWorks movies from the late 90s and 2000s are so nostalgic to me, even the the early 2010s ones ... I wanna my childhood back

YES loved the Dvd extras! Except for the “animated bloopers” where the hair on Alex (for e.g.) would glitch out etc…. As a child I was petrified of that section 😂😆
Madagascar's comedy is pure gold in some of the recent animated films in the past 15 plus years. It may have the humor for kids, but there's so some adult humor too which really makes it even more funny. I'd like to imagine that the writers got inspiration of the wacky timing of Tom and Jerry and the comedic nature and writing of the Looney Toons to make Madagascar as it is. And the whole story of Alex turning into a real threat by being a real wild animal makes a really interesting story that's not seen much in animated movies.
I don't know if you noticed, but Melman didn't actually have all those things wrong with them. He's a hypochondriac.

Fun fact Mort isn’t actually a lemur, he’s part bear, copper wire, shave of wood and some other stuff( we find this out from the spin-off show called all hail king Julien) he also has the ability to inhale the essences(souls) of his multiversal counterparts and he’s one of the first lemurs in existance.
This is all, of course, a retcon, and mostly gags.

Despite what happened between Chris Rock and The Smiths in the Oscars, this is still one of my favorite Dreamworks movies of all time.
No one gives a shit about the Oscars also regardless of what happened between them this is still a good movie

Madagascar, one of the greatest films in Dreamworks film history! Never ceases to get a number of laughs out of me and this movie’s version of “I Like to Move It” slaps hard.

I remember quoting Madagascar with my friends in junior high.
The fossa are predators who only live in Madagascar (over 90% of Madagascar's wildlife only exists there and nowhere else.) They're actually related to mongooses and are much smaller than big cats like pumas and lions.
The cool thing they didn't show about them in this movie (because they're portrayed as more goofy and pathetic) is their ability to jump from tree to tree and go down a tree head first like squirrels with their specially flexible ankles and claws. That's why they're so dangerous to lemurs: they can easily follow prey that climbs and moves in trees.
Takes me back to 2005 and having a blast watching this in theatres. Even the PC game is cool and exciting, still playing it whenever I get the chance. I only wished we saw more of them being in NYC, it's so awesome in the game cause we get to run through the city and wreck havoc. The other two movies are great too, the jokes in this one and particularly the references to movies like planet of the apes are spot on hilarious. Sacha Baron Cohen as Julian was the scene stealer for me. What a tale that Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith were in this too.....
I forgot the game excited and now its suddenly flooding back to me 😭😭 oh my gosh I'm gonna have to look up pictures or videos for the full nostalgia
A lot of people don’t know zimmer composed for this one because it is a little different to his usual style but it’s still amazing. Also the sequels are really good as well.

A disturbing little note on Mort, years after this movie came out there was a prequel animated series about King Julian and his Kingdom, let’s just say the Mort content gets…weird, kinda scary, into twilight zone territory? It’s strange, really strange.
I remember my mom picking this up for me and we had a family movie night to watch this movie again after seeing it in the theater. It sucks I didn't get as much praise as it should have. The film is so funny and it has some of the most colorful characters out of any DreamWorks film ever
A reference a lot of people seem to miss in this movie is that Marty references the Flintstones theme and says "Wilma!" as a reference too.
This movie is full of humor, surprises, music and actions. Best reaction ever

Going back the first movie it reminded me of how even at the zoo Alex especially loved performing. It makes thier ultimate choice in 3 make so much sense.
I always love the part when Alex is chasing Marty and the National Geographic theme plays.

This is one of my favorite animation movies and both of your reactions were delightful . I enjoyed this so much here I am all on board for Marty and Melman.... the whole cast is incredible but Marty& Melman are my favorites . The little penguins are so cute and mischievous.... without them life would be pretty boring.... I feel they add to the adventure of the whole movie . The "Move it" song is so catchy I Love everything about this animation .

Madagascar was my favorite cartoon growing up and I still watch it to this day. My favorite characters of the whole movie are the penguins, private is my favorite penguin, he does the work and he never gets any credit for what he does plus he always gets slapped. They made Madagascar two and Madagascar three. They made a series of The Penguins of Madagascar for Nickelodeon which was also my all-time favorite cartoon, The adventures of the penguins and their missions while living at the Central Park zoo. Later they actually made a movie starting the Penguins. I really enjoyed watching the both of you having laughed and reacting to the movie!!!

When I watched Madagascar for the first time, I realized how CGI animation can actually make characters move in a classic cartoony way. Because of that, I loved it immediately. The comedy is great and surprisingly edgy. The penguins are, of course, the best characters. They're cute and cuddly AND borderline deadly haha! Can't wait to see you react to the sequels.
A funny thing about the character mort, mort is a tiny little lemur almost Child like but if you look at the actor who plays Mort he’s a big guy who puts on this tiny little voice I’m crying!!!

I suggest that the two of you should watch Talladega Nights:The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. It was my introduction to Sacha Baren Cohen, and it’s a funny movie.

Madagascar was my first film that I ever seen, along with Shrek. Both movies are my favourites of all times.
I really love DreamWorks' Madagasc (2005). It's one of my favorite DreamWorks franchises along with Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and The Bad Guys.

Fun fact fossa and hyenas are actually fairly closely related think of the Foosa as Hyenas distance cousins . And between the 2 is obvious that hyenas are the more common animal.
