Thankyou for being so amazing to my daughter Eliza Lucas !! She has enjoyed her time so much so I think we’re going to battle to get her home. Our farm and door is always open to you and your family.😊
I have just started to watch your videos, and not only enjoyable to watch, I think you are one of the most organised persons I’ve seen, your attention to detail the business is amazing, and your attitude towards your staff is truly outstanding and they all look as though they really enjoy working for you and that you have a laugh with them whilst running a serious business. A business model for all to achieve, well done sir!
Love the way you explain things, If more people watched videos like yours and others they wouldn’t be so quick to slate farming and farmers. I’m not a farmer but was brought up working on a farm from the age of 11 to 16 and (now in my 50s) completely lost touch with the farming world but watching videos like your I feel like part of the community.
Brilliant video James, I am a farmer in Berkshire and I have to admit I really don’t like big farming companies as yourselves as I feel you don’t farm properly and can’t get around it all properly! But I must say I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I’m very impressed by what I see with your farm and staff, and I’m particularly yourself as I’m very impressed with how you can manage it all and your across every part of the business, I’m sure you have so very trusted lieutenants that help oversee things that you can’t. so thanks for the great videos, and thanks for changing my mind on your company and how well run it is. I’ve just stopped cutting osr for the day it’s 23:30 and I’m just making my lunch box for tomorrow and I’ve watched your video on my iPad on the side so I can relate to everything you say. Thanks James can’t wait for the next one. Stu.
This is the best TH-cam farming channel on the net, please keep the footage coming James, fantastic insight into your business, from a Cambs farmer who doesn’t grow osr anymore! And please buy your staff some decent shorts😂
Yet another great video James , i think if none farming background viewers watch this they will realise how volatile harvest can be , I'm sure many businesses would never survive with such volatility , and also show the amount of work it takes just to produce food for the nation and how its never been more important for food security . keep them coming
Yes so is all farmers not just one but sure I'll give a thumb up for income 😂 I know farrming grew up in the business 😂 love you all know thow Clarkson fans 🤣🤣
James, love your update on the harvest, the weather is unpredictable every day, your find of barbecue reminents left in a barley field and beer cans, is the lowest of any one, if they had brains of dynamite, they wouldn't have enough to blow their noses, it's all down to the parents, your hard work is unbelievable in management, and in your talk about how you are feeling about the harvest, prices, moisture, sap, rye grass, and the conditions, baling barley, al the best to you and your workmates, keep up the good spirit of laughter and banter, Michael power county Waterford Ireland [Eire]
Great video. Very insightful into a large modern agricultural business. Your honesty about yields and financial information is what i find most interesting.
Thank you James for an excellent informative video. Sharing all the pitfalls farmers face to a non farmer is much appreciated. Hoping you get some sunshine for the wheat to claw the losses back
Please keep us updated on the rye grass problem, been out of farming for a couple of years now and i do miss it. Love the videos and knowing your not to far away from me. Hope you all have a safe harvest. Look forward to the update.
Another great video, too bad the weather is not cooperating. What is wrong with some of the non- farming public back in the UK and issues with trespassing, tipping, and vandalism to farm machinery? In the 40 years I've lived in Canada (in highly populated areas) I have never seen any issues like that here, equipment can stand in fields for weeks, and no one even thinks of touching it. A different society I suppose. I could be wrong but oil seed rape is called Canola here in N America as it was bred/hybridized here and it stands for Canadian Oil, I think. Not so much a PC thing, thank the Lord, more of a breeding name/trade mark, which has stuck for the last several decades Keep the great videos coming. Good luck with the rest of the 2024 harvest.
Loving your videos coming from a farming career myself and your farming operations is extremely well managed going to be sunny for a few days so crack on while you can, you have some verry good dedicated workers that is for sure which must make your job a lot easier knowing things will be done right by all the guys & girls in the team.
Good update James , shame this weather don't settle for you & everyone else to crack on. The rye grass will be a problem even when it comes to baling, it will put the moisture up in the bales too. Good idea with the microwave, hot food when needed is a bonus for the guys when doing long days .
Very informative video James and like Ollie you treat your workers well and a good rapor between you all. Hopefully harvest goes well and weather improves
Great videos it shows how much work goes into harvest for these that don’t have a clue about what work and how much effort every member of staff puts in. Hopefully your new combines do the job for you. Must admit hot meals on a afternoon evening is looking after your staff.❤
Great content. Nice to hear an honest opinion on crop yields etc. You certainly spoil your staff with sticky toffee pudding❤ it must be frustrating for them that they’re moving from combining to other jobs, although they are necessary jobs.
James, next season we should be able to apply MAPP sprays with drones in the UK. America and Australia have adopted drones into farming and they certainly have their place in the recent wet ground condition and perhaps a solution to minimise the problems you are seeing this year with the wheelings effecting the rye grass in your crops. Whilst an 8m spray swath currently may seem limiting the speed and adaptability of drones I feel will have their place. Would be happy to discuss.
Excellent video! Regarding the grass issue… if it is a lack of chemical that’s being pulled out in the wheelings on the headlands, you could try spraying the headlands last? That way the sprayer will always be running on unsprayed ground.
Terribly stop start harvest here in Ireland too. Some winter barley cut but nothing baled in my area. Surprisingly our yields aren’t coming in too badly even though we’ve had very very similar weather to ye this year. No sunshine and very little heat.
Great video and love the eplainations - complete bollocks about farming and polution mos farmers go out their way to setup iniatives to help wild life, growin decent grass that eats C02 .... keep up the good work
Another cracking video! There seems to be a great vibe on your farm with all the workers like AND your honesty 👏🏻👏🏻 missed the interaction with Cousin Michael, thought he'd be concerned how's it going! Oh just a little note, the endings always seem a little abrupt.... like cut short.... is that just your style 🤔🤔
In South Africa I found rye grass quite resilient to some herbicide only applications; so I tended to have a heavy roller following the drill with a herbicide applicator. This was in the 80’s though. It goes without saying mechanised agriculture has advanced dramatically since then. The theory behind this was to reduce the depth of the wheel track minimising the water pooling area, reducing the advantage for invaders that require less heat units to germinate. We tended to require more glyphosate based products in heavy traffic areas and obviously less on less vulnerable areas. I’d be interested to hear what methods are being implemented nowadays.
Another great video James so glad I've found your channel it's so interesting and your a natural presenter didn't know your haulage had it's own channel were can I find it please hopefully the sun shines soon I'm from Northern Ireland and we are sick of the rain
Hi James, I am sure you have seen the Harvest Seed Control project led by BOFIN in collab with NIAB , looks very interesting. Keep up the great work. Thank you
The weather is very frustrating I'm doing 2nd cut this week but no chance to combine. Budgeting 9.5t/ha in a year like this was pretty brave.....the price was never going to stay at the artificial levels £150 historically has been a decent price
Hi James. What do you have to worry about with not being safe to leave machine's? Fuel? We have batteries stolen etc. Also Emelia and Matildas jolly jeepster is a hoot.
Another enjoyable video, great banter with the lads. Can we see some cultivation action, weather permitting. As farmers, maybe we should plant a tree every time our cows fart to off set our carbon. Seems to work for other business and aviation.
What a couple of years you guys have had. At least you can keep a reasonable sense of humour which is so important. Stay safe. Oh a quick question. I am interested to know how many acres you are currently farming. Nosy I am!
Great videos. We have just put our combines on RTk with Solsteer kits, 7.70 headers working with 30m tramlines. not exactly ctf but after only 2 days harvest the efficiency gains are huge and we can avoid laying swaths in deep tramlines. Do you still grow potatoes and beet?
Best farming videos on TH-cam , have you had the rye grass tested for resistance? Axial ? Luximo ? Options for it if the flufenacent pre em ain't touching it ?
Out of curiosity, why do headlands yield less than the middle of the field? Absolutely love the videos you share, very interesting, hopefully harvest pulls it’s socks up for you 🤞🏻👍🏻
With all these headaches, the spiralling costs, the rye grass issues, distance to travel with big kit and the weather, do you ever wonder if it's all worth it? Impressive operation but some serious negatives in the whole farming job these days.
Another interesting video, just a quick question, did you consider any other make of combine, before you got the new claas ones, just wonder as we have gone from claas to John deere this year, not tried it yet as it keeps raining, hopefully on the barley tomorrow
As a retired combine operator of 40 years. This summer reminds me of two awful years.. 1985. 2011.. What we use to call a SNATCH N GRAB YEAR.. Glad I'm retired this year first year enjoying summer...😂 P.s Bet the milling Wheats quality will be suspect this year..😢 Wet straw ?? Open up top sieve and up the air... if grain is over 15% you'll be amazed how much wind you can use.... As for the reduced use of Glyphosphate these green bottoms in crops will really be hampered by 40ft plus headers.. I can see it going back to smaller headers especially needed in a wet year with grassy bottom.. God help farmers in wet years with the N.H CR11 and J.D X9..!!! 50ft headers.. Need any help give me a shout...
I've just started watching your videos and I'm enjoying watching thank you and keep them coming. My disabled by has sat in similar fendts that you use and the crawler fends at a dealership but could not have a ride in them but hay ho
Complete load of tosh ref the ozone problem from cows etc, these so called professor types forget about the brown stuff (green on spring grass) that comes out of the back end of cattle helping to add carbon to soil as well as improving soil fertility. Interesting update James not sure how you manage to crack a smile or two while still stressing about rain, lower then expected yields, lower then budgeted prices as well as ever increasing rye grass. Keep it up.
If you are having RG coming up in your sprayer wheel marks. Could you not make a round up sprayer to go on a tractor that goes around in say may time that will just sprayer off the tram lines?
Thankyou for being so amazing to my daughter Eliza Lucas !! She has enjoyed her time so much so I think we’re going to battle to get her home.

I always thought I'd like to farm 12,000 acres in East Anglia before I watched this, I still do! Thanks for doing these videos James great attitude.
Brilliant content in these videos. Very interesting watch for someone from a non-farming background. Thank you for sharing 🇬🇧🚜

We have been waiting all year for these video’s
Fantastic viewing as always. James you look to be a brilliant boss!!!
Saw one your Lorrie’s this morning on the A14 near Huntingdon about 6.10 am . Looked nice and clean 😎.

Great content subscribed a few days ago and I am now hooked to watching just like olly blogs, what sort of acreage do you cover on your farms thanks
I think they farm 12k acres 1200 they own and spread over a large area, some operation.
Us farmers, big or small need harvest to be good to feed cattle.

Great videos. As a combine driver I thought your OSR had a lot of chaff, will you not get an admix penalty ?
Praying for sun for you🌞🌞
Another great video and interesting again and could I ask what was the name you traded under with the pig unit 👍👍
Hey James. Love the videos am wondering what the white board in the grain moisture room what’s the places named for I’m 10 mins from Dundee 👍
Love your videos. How many acres do you farm?
James, how does your CTF work if you have to move straw swaths to dry for baling ??

You should do what other TH-cam’s do and sell out , have px merch and tractor runs to help make up the shortfall. Get some Cousin Michael T shirts 😊
Yeah px bedsheets so we can cut a hole out 🤣 (sorry Michael, you carry it well)
Everyone who has any interest in where food comes from should listen to the first 2 minutes to understand the challenges farmers face.

If I have missed it I apologise but what happens or what do you do with the straw bales?
For the rye grass, are there two non-grass crops that would work in your soil to enable you to spray for grasses?
25ml rain here at Sutton, Ely - 15-16 July 24hr period.
Could you not spray of the rye grass before harvest ?
You guys have great faith in those rams holding the reel up while unblocking....anyhow hope the sun arrives....
Courage💌🌾🍁🌼❤
It’s certainly a frustrating start for you.
