  • Hello and welcome to our first "Gaiden", or "side story" series! Why Gaiden you ask? Well I wasn't 100% confident about running a Pippin series as a mainline "season" on the channel lol. Maybe I will be proven wrong!
To start we will have an overview of the Apple / Bandai Atmark Pippin, or @Mark as it's been stylized. This isn't just any old Pippin either but a rare EV-2 Prototype console with a non-final hardware and BIOS design.
We will have nine more episodes on the Pippin...eight games and a finale! So like and subscribe if you want to see more Pippin stuff...cause I am still not sure if anyone but me will care haha.
We will be back next week with another episode. Till then thanks for watching!
Questions? Comments? Just leave them below and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them!

Awesome! Was hoping you would get back to making these types of videos. I always learn something new!

At least the console looks pretty cute. I wish modern video game design was more toy like.
I know so little about Pippin, excited to follow the series!

It’ll be fun to show everyone all about the Pippin. So few videos on it so I felt it was important to show what it’s all about

Yeah it’s quite fun to be able to show off. Especially because it’s a prototype unit

Pretty similar in concept to the Commodore CDTV and Amiga CD32, computers in a box that could be considered failures as well (despite being released in completely different circumstances). Failures but forward thinking.

Same with the FM Towns Marty. Hell even the Dreamcast could work with Windows CE. There is a bigger lineage of PC operating systems in a console box than you’d think

@@VideoGameEsoterica also, nowadays you can do all sorts of computing tasks in all sorts of devices, PCs or not. And most people do gaming on devices that aren't strictly gaming consoles. In facts, if you want to build your personal game console, you just buy a System on a Chip Computer, get some sort of Linux operating system and you're good to go.

Basically every console now is just a PC with a roll your own tool set

I wonder if Apple's version of Halo would have came out on this.

My guess would be no. The Pippin has no GPU, just a PowerPC 603...so if you look at the Halo previews Apple showed before it changed to Microsoft it looks like it was def rubbing on way more powerful hardware

imagine if xbox and playstation had a trackball instead of the right stick

    • @VideoGameEsoterica
      @VideoGameEsoterica  4 ปีที่แล้ว

The trackball is pretty handy for a lot of the games. Granted that’s because it’s mostly PC ports but it wasn’t a bad decision for the Pippin

No lessons were learned from the Philips CD-I .

Lol apparently not. It would have been great had it not been for the lackluster library
