  • Do you have a check engine light on or oil leaks happening? A bad PCV valve could be the culprit! In this video, I outline the top 7 symptoms of a failing PCV valve, so you can address this cheap fix before major issues emerge.
    We'll cover:
What does the PCV valve do? A quick primer on its function
    Increased oil burning and consumption
External oil leaks at seals and gaskets
    Rough idle and stalling episodes
White smoke from the exhaust pipe
Oil residue collecting in air intake tubes
Sludgy oil formations in the crankcase
    Check engine light trouble codes
I also discuss some simple at-home tests you can do to check PCV valve function. Things like removing the oil cap to check for vacuum suction. Plus, how to monitor engine idle for changes when pinching the vacuum line.
Replacing a bad PCV valve before it fails completely can save you money and prevent bigger headaches! I recommend being proactive once you spot symptoms emerging. And consider a preventative swap every 60-100k miles.

Enjoyed the part saying cleaning is not worth the effort for a low-cost part, the PCV for my 5.7L engine is $160 at the dealer and over $120 at a parts store plus installation if you can't do it yourself. This blew my mind cause all my cars before was only a couple bucks to change it out so yes, it is totally worth cleaning just pay attention to the O-rings.

Thanks for your inputs. Basically, the price I mentioned is justified if you are going to replace yourself. On Amazon or other auto parts stores, you can see most of the PCV valves cost less than $50

So in what world do you think $50 is "cheap"?? A stinkin' plastic part on my Honda. $47!!

Since I was changing my plugs I decided to change the valve as well. When I shook the old valve it made a loud clickety clack noise like metal on plastic and the new one was like the metal valve was coated in rubber. I also noticed quite a bit of oil when I took off the intake manifold. Car has 104k on it. 2014 Ford Edge sport.

decicded to go ahead and replace my pcv valve as well because im having a issue with stalling on low rpm and air fuel ratio dropping with rpm. also replacing fuel injectors as well since getting aorund the 100k mile mark is where i seen injectors need replacing as well

11 Toyota camry LE 2.5 L 2 ARFE engine I only have some of the symptoms . Like minor oil leaks at oil pan and possibly very minor one at rear crankshaft seal . And there's oil stain on intake manifold , also took off oil fill cap and no vacuum just air being blown OUT . No high rough idling or air leaks . Yes heard if you have rear crankshaft leak it'll be a huge leak not very minor like mine ? Could that leak start off as small minor leaks then get much bigger ? Please advise me on if it sounds like bad pcv valve . My particular PCV valve is in verrry hard location to get to . I pretty much have to remove intake manifold to get to it . Verry lil room by the passenger side less than a foot .

In that case, checking PCV valve is the only cheapest diagnostic step you can do for now. Otherwise, checking engine seals is a more complex task I guess.
