I would say it was more Admiral Ozzel's fault for coming out of hyper space too close to Hoth thinking the act of surprise would help. This of course backfired, made the rebels try to make a fast get away and forced Vader to abandon his original attack plans and go with the all out ground assault in order to quickly salvage something from Ozzel's mistake. But that's just my opinion, I would love to know if anyone agrees or not :)

A very good book, if a little short, it's mostly concept art of the battles, with text detailing how it all happened, an act of heroism/heroic sacrifice, and a survivor mentioning how he felt (such as Wedge's survivor guilt). In the Battle of Jakku, they explain how it happened and how a bad ass rebel pilot was shot down, grabbed a rocket launcher and shot down an AT-AT walker while surrounded by Stormtroopers. She died in the gunfire, but the walker fell and crushed dozens of imperials.

I like to think that the reason they never brought adequate reinforcements to deal with the rebels (early on) was partially political, and that telling the imperial senate (Which existed through the events of rogue one, and in Episode 4) that they required 8 star destroyers to deal with what they had been playing down as a "small" group of rebels might shake the senate's trust in the emperor, and in the military itself, perhaps lending more public support to the rebellion.

At Scariff that couldn't be the whole rebel fleet, we see an mc80 home one type at the gathering above dantooine in rebels. Unless maybe the fleet was scattered or undergoing refits at the time and as such it wasn't used. We also see ships like the captured lucrehulk in dr aphra set shortly after yavin which would have taken major refits to make battle ready and thus we could have seen only the operational part of the fleet.

On the Front Lines irritated me because it excluded V-wings from the Battle of Coruscant but substituted V-19 Torrents instead. In the ROTS movie it is very hard to tell if V-wings are in that battle, although it is inconceivable that the Republic wouldn't use them alongside the ARC-170s and Jedi Interceptors.
Settings for Battlefront games, hints at Snoke or other First Order soldiers origins, or motivations of other surviving characters through the current Trilogy, or even some of the actions of the surviving Ghost crew to be explored after the series ends. Lots of potential.
