  • This is the first part of a three part series covering GM's Displacement on Demand, which is also called Active Fuel Management, and later called Dynamic Fuel Management. In this video, I disassemble a 6.2L LT1 and demonstrate the operation of the DoD. I use pressure transducers to show how much pressure is necessary to activate the DoD lifters and I also show in-cylinder pressures while activating and deactivating the lifters. I also share some information on why the DoD is causing symptoms with vehicles when DoD activates at slow speeds. This can ultimately cause transmission issues. I use a home-made vibration analyzer with an oscilloscope to demonstrate this vibration issue during a test drive. Here is the link to the video showing you how to make that sensor yourself: • Vibration Analyzer for...
    Part two covers the torque converter in these 6L80s and how they are prone to failing. This is the link for part two: • GM's 6L80 HP Tuning, D...
    Part three covers the HP Tuners segment of this three-part series. The link to that video is here: • GM's 6L80 HP Tuning, D...

    What a shame that such an informative video has so few views and under 275 "likes" after two years. You've earned another subscriber!

    Awesome teacher.... I went to Automotive school got my associate's a long time ago been wrenching for 18 years anyway I bought my first GM and I hate this DOD love the VVT just ordered HP tuners. Very useful information in this everyone needs to watch it if they're working on GM vehicles. Thank you for making this video.

    Thank you for these videos!!!. Bought a '16 L83 silverado. Didn't realize the level of vibration V4 mode causes until after I swapped out the BFG KO2's. The tires were masking the vibration at in-town speeds. Vibration is much worse when its cold though, ill generally run it in M5 untill it get to temp.

    Shawn, I have a 2008 Escalade RWD with the 6.2. I am replacing the engine due to excessive piston slap. I'm installing a 430 hp GM crate LS3. I currently have no problems with the original transmission (145,000 miles). Would you recommend replacing the torque converter with an upgraded (billet backing plate) unit as a preventative measure? What brand torque converter would you put in this truck if it were yours?

    Is there a option to only have dod engage at a higher gear or speed ? If so what approach would you take?

    Thank you for making this video. What’s your thoughts on just using a Range Technology dongle to disable 4 cylinder mode?

    • @siuautomotive
      @siuautomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never use one, but I would think it would be okay.

      siu automotive I’ve spoken to their tech department and they claim as long as you unplug it before smog inspection (California) the vehicle will pass inspection, which is not the case with simply disabling DOD with a tune alone.

      DOD is ingenious, but really a bad idea in the long term. Best to delete it when you get the chance! Really just a way to meet emission standards and promote 'fuel efficiency' from a v8. Honestly, just better off with a v6 in that case.

    • @googuser3145
      @googuser3145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@20tea I think DOD is great as well, but the single greatest upgrade to smallblocks is direct injection. And compared to german OEM's the HPFP's and injectors are decently priced. Im a huge fan of 5th gen smallblocks in general.

    • @20tea
      @20tea 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@googuser3145 True, just keep in mind the additional carbon buildup in the ports and valves. All direct injection vehicles should have an oil catch can to reduce carbon buildup.

    Do 8L90s need adjustments made with HP Tuners?

    • @siuautomotive
      @siuautomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many will tune the TCC so it doesn’t engage in 1-4th gears. Also, many set the slip speed to zero.

  • @FLbowtieguy

    Can deleting the tcc from engaging in 1-4 get rid of a shutter from 1st to 2nd at low rpm

    • @siuautomotive
      @siuautomotive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not unless the tcc is still engaged during the shift and the source of the shutter is the tcc.

    DoD is a joke. I lost 2 mpg after a rebuild and dod delete

    • @ridingwiththereids
      @ridingwiththereids 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll agree that it's a joke. I used HP Tuners to turn it off on my 2018 Chevy 1500 5.3, a long with some line pressure and TCC changes and actually gained 2-3mpg.
