    I know a cylinder head service in Greenville SC who pioneered crack repair techniques, done dozens of diesel heads for me.

      Hi Dennis, do you have the name of your cylinder head service? I'll give them a call and see what kind of pricing they can give me. Thanks for your help!

    I'm from west central Iowa and also have a d6c 76a with the D333c engine. My turbo shelled out a few weeks ago also. Did you ever find a replacement? Good luck with the project.

      @utubedaveg I've been going to American crane and tractor. They have a few locations but I've been going to the Kansas City location as it's closest.

      mine is a 3s3510 another number was 9m7738. they told me they could ship one from italy for 1150 and 150 shipping. I might be off a little on the price but not much. As I said I found a used one. KC was the outlet I talked to.

      @DMIDoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's what mine was and I said go ahead and order it for me. A week went by and I called them up and they said there's a problem, the turbo is on back order for 120 days. I asked if they had just the cartridge and they had one of those on the shelf. They shipped it today and should be here tomorrow. I was working with Dave down there at American crane, he's been pretty helpful.

    That head MAY be able to be repaired, you didn't show the damage well enough, or disassemble the head far enough to be able to see the damaged areas better. Cracks can be pinned or welded some times, especially in situations where there is a lack of options. Don't count blocks and heads out just because of cracks, I have repaired stuff in similiar shape before. Worst case scenario, clean it up, inspect it thoroughly, and put it back on if it isn't too bad. The machine is obviously going to go through coolant, and you will want to make sure the coolant system wont take on additional damage from the pressure in the system, but how much do you really intend to use the machine. You can get work done with it operating like that until you find a replacement. There are more than likely plenty of other machines out there operating just like that. I am a big proponent of fixing things properly, however, I am also of the understanding that it isn't always as easy as running down to a local auto parts store for a small purchase.

    • @DMIDoes
      @DMIDoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. When the machine was running the cracks were bad enough that it was blowing coolant out of the stack. It would empty the rad in a matter of minutes it was losing so much coolant.I've called several places on the cost to rebuild and it's just as much as a new aftermarket loaded head. You're right, I won't be running the machine that often but the leak was severe enough that it warranted taking the head off for a better look.
      I have a new head on order and and hoping it will get here in the next few days.

    I need an old cat to cut some roads on a large piece of real-estate , but this makes me a little concerned 😳, i missed a great deal on a low hr, 1989 d6 cat a few months ago, it belonged to the county road dept , only brought $10 grand , and they delivered it .

    • @DMIDoes
      @DMIDoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow that sounds like a really good deal. Usually on the big auction sites I see machines that new going for 30-60k

    • @MegaRiffraff
      @MegaRiffraff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      DMI Does it was advertised as having a bad transmission and wouldn't move , but the man who bought it just disengaged the winch and loaded it , i was told there was some disgruntlement after the sale .

    go to cat, get a reman head. do not even think about rebuilding that one.

    • @DMIDoes
      @DMIDoes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've called cat and they do not offer reman head for this. Discontinued... I'll probably just go aftermarket.

    • @sshep7119
      @sshep7119 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not as easy as getting a replacement, or aftermarket. There is hope there for that head, the turbo center section can also be rebuilt, it needs a total rebuild and a new turbine wheel. It may need more, the turbo isn't going to be something you can do in a garage with little to no experience. Center sections require peecision tools and specialty equipment for balancing.
