    I’m planning on doing this exact maintenance on our D6C this winter. Thanks for the video- you made it look easy.

    Exacto knifes work pretty good too for cutting out gaskets.

    When I saw the towing hook fitted to that belly pan it did look a bit robust. Good luck getting this old girl sorted.

      Hey thanks Ray! Hopefully I'll get at least the engine going soon and we'll go from there.

    Hey on those belly pans I usually just jam a 2x4 straight up against them with a jack remove all the bolts then rip the jack out from underneath keeps you from getting smashed.

      Thanks for the tip. I'll try it when it comes time to remove the transmission belly pan.

    Why would you heat the bolt? That makes it expand and harder to remove. If you could heat the surrounding metal fast enough, that would help...but you can't since it's a massive block of steel.

    to remove belly pans I would run a winch cable under it then tighten up the cable remove bolts and lower the belly pan down revers to install

      I always used a cable come along , but yeah , that is how it's done alright. Some belly pans had a sort of hinge set up too. Not sure about the D6C though.

    I think that valve is bronze. Zep makes purple power degreaser in 5 gallon containers. It’s intended to be mixed with water but I use it straight on greasy stuff

    Rebuild the turbo yourself. Get the new seal kit and the compressor wheel parts. My concern is that the rings are damaged from getting hot.

    I think you need to invest in a serious steam pressure washer to get that engine clean.

    Some ask how can a pulley wear out ..same as a tire wears out ..wear and tear

  • @jonhair4034
    @jonhair4034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks like the bottom pully needs changing to ...if your pulleys are worn out it won't turn the water pump right and it will eat up belts same for the alternator..that could have been the problem with it overheating and why the head cracked ...most think it's from a water pump or radiator plugged up and not think about pulleys and D6c were bad about overheating anyway

      Thanks for the advice Jon, I'll check the specs. I will say though that when I bought the dozer there weren't any belts even on it from the crank pulley to the water pump. The water pump was also locked up hard (hard enough that I thought for a moment it was a gear driven pump. I eventually got it to move and am in the process of getting parts for a complete rebuild of the pump. I'll show that in a later video.

    While not always pretty, home made gaskets do the job.

      Yeah it was pretty satisfying making one. Faster than the 1 hour drive into town to see the Cat dealer too.
