My goodness, remember when this tune hit the radio in 1977,I think, being in grade school at the time this song ruled,we loved the great lead solo, nice to see Myles doing justice to this song some 40 years later....Great song, from a great songwriter!
I saw April Wine in 1977. Awesome! I saw them again in 2014. Awesome! The soundtrack I my teens and I'm eternally grateful. Respect and love from a fan!
In case anyone is trying to follow along with his chords and wondering why it doesn't sound right, he has actually tuned down his guitar a full tone. So the first four chords in standard tuning would be F, Em, Eb, Bb. This is 2 full tones below the original recorded key. Guess he deserves to be kind to the vocal chords 40 years later.
In fact, to play along with the studio version you would need to play A-Abm-G-D in the verses (1 tone UP from the G-F#m-F-C he’s playing here). The other difference is that here, Myles is not playing the song the same as the studio version until he gets 3 minutes in to the song. Up until that point he’s playing the ubiquitous I-vi-IV-V progression (C-Am-F-G) during the choruses… which sounds OK, but different from the version we all know from the radio. On the original, April Wine play I-iii-IV-V (C-Em-F-G) for the first 8 measures of the choruses and THEN switch to the I-vi-IV-V (again, C-Am-F-G) for the last two… well, that, plus tuned one tone up.
Reminds me of my old friend who lent me the album where i first heard this song. Rest in peace rich ,miss you
