Brawlhalla is a free-to-play 2D platformer fighting game developed by Blue Mammoth Games and Ubisoft for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Steam, iOS, and Android, with full cross-play across all platforms. It also has some of the most satisfying combo mechanics of any fighting game I've played, because doing successful low damage to kill combos is extremely hard. You have to either 100% know where your opponent is going or just make up some wacky play and hope for the best. It makes the kills all the more exciting. Brawlhalla has reached OVER 1 million in esports prize pools this year and over 50 million online players in total.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a 2018 Japanese crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The game follows the series' traditional style of gameplay: controlling one of the various characters, players must use differing attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena. It features a wide variety of game modes, including a campaign for single-player and multiplayer versus modes. Ultimate features 89 playable fighters, including all characters from previous Super Smash Bros. games alongside newcomers. The roster ranges from Nintendo mascots to characters from third-party franchises.
Street Fighter V is a fighting game developed by Capcom and Dimps and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in 2016. Similar to the previous games in the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter V features a side-scrolling fighting gameplay system. The game also introduces the "V-Gauge", which builds as the player receives attacks and adds three new skills. The game features 16 characters at launch, with four of them being new to the series. A story mode and 30 additional characters were added through updates and downloadable content.
Guilty Gear Strive is a fighting video game developed and published by Arc System Works. It is the seventh mainline installment of the Guilty Gear series and the 25th overall. The game was released worldwide on June 11, 2021. It uses Unreal Engine 4. Intended as a "complete reconstruction of the franchise", Guilty Gear Strive retains the core essence of the series but revamps many features and mechanics, except for the removal of the series’ signature mechanic, the Instant Kill. It introduces the "Wall Break" feature, which allows for stage transitions when a combo is initiated in the corner of the arena.

Some stages get pick because of frame drops. Stages are often the most graphically demanding part of fighting games.
In Them's Fighting Herds, you can choose to change the 3D stages into 2D pictures if you have a low performing pc.
I wish more games had this feature because deleting some of the stages assets makes it more payable for people.

    • @illford6921
      @illford6921 ปีที่แล้ว

In Smash, this isn't possible now because the 3D is weirdly important to hitboxes. Since some of them involve the Z Axis. Realistically, this isnt hard to fix necessarily, but its there ig

I think Brawlhalla does an okay job with stages overall, one thing they didn't really account for at all was color swaps being a problem, alot of fighting games like Guilty Gear, Smash, and Skullgirls, have alternative color swaps, but pay attention to stage backgrounds and colors most of the time as to make sure their color swaps do not blend in with some of the characters. This is really frustrating to deal with in Brawlhalla because some people do have trouble seeing the differences in the shade of blue, and in 2's running blue on alot of the maps just give a better advantage, especially on maps like Fangwild where it's all blue, and in 2's blue isn't really blue and it's more like teal, and it's really easy to blend in with the background, of course competitively it isn't a problem since we have yet to see fangwild in comp play. Although it is rather annoying to deal with this sometimes, especially from a casual players perspective, I know there was a problem with some color on Demon Island being to hard to see with those small bushes in the background for a couple months and after people kept complaining about it BMG finally lightened it up a little so it wasn't as bothering, but it still is a bit. but none of these fighting games are perfect, but it just shows how much they really need to account for so nothing bad happens competitively.

I wanna make a stage where when someone combos more than 7 hits, a girl in the background just flashes their ass. Usually in Smash Ultimate, the stage roster is limited to around 8 or 9 stages. The most common ruleset I've seen is Coinbox, a weekly tournament co-hosted by Hungrybox (?), which uses the following
    3 Stock - 7:00
    No hazards
Starters: Battlefield, Final Destination, Town & City, Pokemon Stadium 2, Smashville
Counterpicks: Kalos Pokemon League, Small Battlefield, Yoshi's Story

you forgot to mention one crucial thing about stages in fighting games: music. of course this video was more about the technical side of stages, but for plebs like me, the music (if it's not possible to change the soundtrack) is usually the deciding factor. therefore, my favourite stage of all time is Hidden Retreat from Tekken 6.

Also, One of my favortie stages is the Battlefield and Omega verisons of Electroplankton for the sole reason that you can use the background as a green screen. An actual answer is probabaly Mementos though.

With the exception of obstructive or highly distracting elements in the foreground/background, stages have zero impact on traditional 2D fighting games. They're literally just there to give you something to look at, in game performance is completely unchanged by them.
Stages really only matter in other fighting games because it's actually involved with the fight, and your interactions with the stage can change the whole match.

The stage choice also matters in SFV, albeit to a lesser extent. Like Typhoon mentioned in the video, the beach stage is banned because the water can hide certain grounded projectiles and moves. The Fields of Fate stage has the same issue, but it is also just about impossible to tell how far from the right side corner you are on that stage due to the background all looking the same on that side. Additionally, if a stage has a background that moves too fast or erratically, it can cause motion sickness, which is why Skies of Honor is banned. Some stages may also have obstructive foreground elements that can obscure projectiles, moves, animations, and even entire characters, such as 90% of the stages in Brutal: Paws of Fury (I can't be the only person who knows this game exists, right?).

if you can't pick up a trash can or a bench and bash the other guy with it, your game is shit.

Too much complaining about too little. Whenever they ban a stage from tournaments it is the players fault at NOT being good enough to read their opponents inputs as they actually should. What is a professional competitive fighting game player who will get distracted by gras or water effects? Even Ridge Racer Type 4 showed us in the intro that a pro player has time for details and being humble.

This video was really well made. I enjoyed it from start to finish and I like the script. I envy your ability to write because I kinda suck at it lol
