Andrew, I'm sitting here watching a jewelry channel in Indonesia. Props to all both of ya'll. These guys are doing everything you say is really "not the way" to do jewelry and your way is so much more refined but these guys are busting it out! A guy is cutting all the links for his woven bracelet with shears. He does not even mix the borax with water! He just gets the silver hot and touches it to the borax, sitting in a little white lump on the counter dry as a bone and solders! He does not cut little pallions, he simply uses a long strip of solder and gets his links red then touches the solder to them like an engineer would do with lead solder and a solder gun. All those little links are not sawed through to make a tight joint; oh no, they are all cut with shears and he solders them lickety split!
It is so funny watching these guys knock it out!
I watch your channel religiously and you are my master and show me the way, but these guys are certainly getting the job done. It is hilarious to see the difference in technique.

Thank you yet again Andrew. Beware of hammering bezel setters.Yours have a nice thick outer wall. Many years ago I bought a set of OMO Italian ones (not cheap) and when I tapped it a little too hard, I took a chunk out of my most used one. Very thin outer walls on them for other reasons. People should be aware of the difference. I do understand that you can't cover every angle. I'm just making someone aware hopefully so it wont happen to them :) Thanks again.

Wow, I've really enjoyed watching your video tuition Andrew. I have an HND in silversmithing and jewellery making and I don't feel as if I was taught properly on many techniques, especially stone setting. I wish I'd been your apprentice! I would have learnt far more quickly and more thoroughly. :-)

Next time you film, move that wooden box with the bezel pushers. Couldn't see what you were doing on the long film shots
I just got a set. I think they are identical to yours. Exactly the same 18 punch set, same box, same printing. I test punched one bezel and I noticed that the punch ground off some of the bezel and marred it. I'm in the process of sanding them down/polishing them so they will move smoothly over the bezel. Bad move? Good move? I notice when you use the tool there is no silver dust. Mine made some filings/dust. The cones have deep rings in them. Grrrr. Please let me know. I've only completed 3. Thank you. Love your videos. Very technical, very detailed, very informative. You don't miss anything!
P.S. I bought a Knew Concepts aluminum saw with the tensioner, but skipped the swivel. I already have an 8" saw frame. No need. This thing is a freeeeking miracle! Wow! Worth every penny. I love it! Glad you reviewed it.
It must've been annoying to find your new tools are grooved! (I once bought a nylon cone hammer which left marks with its seams - when the sole purpose of a nylon hammer is not to leave marks). Curious what brand you purchased, as I was just about to investigate setting tools myself and want something which will work the first time.

Great video , I would love to see the actual bits when you’re drilling or grinding . Have you considered setting your zoomed-in camera on the opposite side, so your fingers won’t get in the way since you’re right handed ?

Excellent teacher is Andrew he goes into all details just the videoing is a pain, I know what he looks like and can hear his voice, just don’t want to see so much of him talking, more tools work etc is fine. It puts me off I go to other teachers so many times as he annoys me.

Andrew, I must say when I first saw your tutorials when I first began the process of teaching myself to make jewelry, I thought you were from another planet. You techniques seemed to be in direct conflict with what the status quo were teaching. But one video caught my attention and I was truly impressed. It wasn't a complicated setting or an exotic metal fusion or anything like that at all. It was how to shape and solder a ring. Simple thing to do, right? Everyone else said to bring the two ends together flat, solder then hammer into shape. You, however, debunked that technique with common sense. You suggested to form the ring on the mandrel with an overlap of the wire, cut the wire through the overlap, position the freshly cut and matching ends, file if necessary and solder. The fact that I don't have to wrestle the metal out of shape, then wrestle it back into shape while trying not to stretch it or if it has a pattern, to not distort or damage it through hammering and of course filing and sanding to remove hammer marks, it saves loads of time because it simplifies the process.
Now I think you're a genius. I guess being from another planet has advantages...alien technology...lolol. In short, thank you for sharing your brilliant techniques and for cutting out the clutter of extra work that needs not to be done to produce excellent results. You made me a better jeweler. Cheers!
Thank you so much Andrew! I always cut my tubing to the desired lenghts than soldered it onto the ring, that is obviously a stupid mistake. Can't tell how much 3mm tube settings i lost while filing those little bastards. Now i know the right way to do it

I think the outside wall is too thick to be pushed over the edge of the stone. I am using everything you have in the video. I also have the large burnisher graver, the one you use for gypsy settings. I’m going to try again this afternoon. I hope I set the stone. Wish me luck 🍀

I know I have heard people say they use them for various setting techniques but I don't know anything about them at all and quite honestly they scare me a bit because I feel so stupid about them.

I was wondering Andrew if you believe there is a difference in the chrome punches and the black unpolished punches as it pertains to the finished product and would you recommend polishing the black ones yourself? Im afraid if I remove metal to give them a nice finish I might change the angle of the cone inside the punch. At that point I might as well put them in the garbage. You have created a jeweler in me one lesson at a time. Its been my dream since childhood to be a jeweler and for that I am grateful. Stay GOLD Benchman........
Thank you Andrew for a brilliant set of videos on ring making and bezel setting. I have two questions: first, could you measure your stone height and cut your tube to the correct length before soldering eliminating having to saw the tube after its soldered on to the ring, and second, could you start cutting the seat for your stone with a round bur first, which would hopefully help you center the seat you're cutting?
