    That yellow part in the pan protected the transmission during assembly at the plant.
    It just means that you were the first person to drop the pan,and change filter/ fluid.

    Reminds me when i changed the trans fluid on my Buick.
    Dropped the pan to discover no magnet and the previous service used a liquid gasket that hardened. Had to run to one of my local GM dealerships and got a magnet and I had ordered an OEM gasket from RockAuto and several quarts of DEXRON-VI fluid (she came from the factory with DEXRON-III but III was discontinued years ago, VI is backwards compatible and a full synthetic fluid). And it was a process let me tell ya.
    I was covered in old trans fluid, made a mess in the driveway with my tiny drain pan and that little field trip to the Chevrolet dealership and scraping off that old gasket material made the estimated 1 hour process take half the damn day, started at noon ended at 5. And everyone was criticizing me about it saying “YOURE GONNA RUIN THE TRANSMISSION!!! NEVER CHANGE THE FLUID!!!”
    Well 4000 Miles in and she’s still shifting like a dream. Granted I know it’s not long but I’m definitely gonna send the trans fluid off to be analyzed and see how she’s wearing.

    I committed on another one of your PP vids about one of my customers who bought a police Crown Vic that was having transmission issues; I went looking for it and I came across this vid. Update; he got it into a transmission shop and it’s going to cost $2850 to have it rebuilt. I asked him how many miles the car had and he said 80,000. I told him everything you learned me about these transmissions especially the DON’TS. Turns out it was flushed right before they sold it to him. It started giving him issues a few months later. You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about transmission care! He is a young fella; 21, and he said he is done doing doughnuts after coughing up almost $3000….LOL

      I just left my local dealer. Told them I wanted the pan dropped and the filter replaced NOT a flush. My female service advisor said ok let me find a price for that. Her male Co worker says we don't do that. He says sir we flush the transmission which replaces ALL the fluid. I said well the car has 115k miles and I'm not the first owner so I don't know that I want all the fluid pumped out. These "people" want to charge me 275.00 to flush the transmission and they told me they were not going to change the filter or drop the pan in that price. I politely removed myself and came home. Thinking I may be better following this video and doing it myself now! 😡

    Mine had the yellow plug in pan. Fluid was discolored but not burnt. Magnet had very little on it. My rear seal is leaking a bit. I was told the 2003 does not have a converter drain plug. The filter seal was a pain to get out it was hard as a rock. I went the extra mile and painted the pan. That dip stick is hell with that hose when engine is hot. Why they put that thing there is crazy.

      There's absolutely no reason to do that the fluid was already clean to begin with and on top of that if the fluids dirty you're probably going cause that trans to fail
      due to loosing alot of material and fresh clean detergents, I've done it on a personal vehicle and it was toast after
      it's a industry standard NO/NO

    • @budtugley9747

      Yes ! I realized this on my '01 town car. I was very pleased to find it and be able to drain the torque converter. This should be on all vehicles with a torque converter. I used a large flat screwdriver to turn the flywheel in order to get the drain plug into position.

  • @KLM817
    @KLM817 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice and simple video. I am curious though: Don't those transmissions hold about 12 quarts of fluid? So if you only drain about 5 quarts out and then refill, and if you mix the new with the old it just seems there is more old than new and it would seem like it wouldn't help much by mixing the fluids together.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is the best way to do it when you're servicing a Transmission that has got some miles on it you don't want to drop everything in the vehicle because at that point your really going to cause some problems and when I pulled the fluid out it wasn't very dirty
      the key component here is the filter
