    Wow, thank you so much for your explaination. At first, I had no clue what anything on simbrief meant, what to say when im in the aircraft itself and what to do as a whole. After staying here watching this video for 50 minutes, you've explained everything that I was clueless of and made it way easier to understand what to do in vatsim. Great video, definitely coming back to this vid again sometime if i forget anything, you earned a sub 😊

    Very well explained! Thanks so much. Looking to get started in Vatsim (I'm hoping MSFS is finally stable enough to use). This is great introductory information. The only added information maybe for your video if you want to pin a comment to let people know is that you now need to take an "open book" test of 15 questions in order to log into the VATSIM network for the first time. 80% or better to pass, but can be retaken after an hour if you screw it up! Thanks again, and maybe "see" or hear you in the "air" sometime!

    One of my biggest problems was turning down the sound so I could hear the controllers I didn't even know separating the airplane and controller sounds was possible, my usb sound card came in the mail today and it's like night and day difference I don't have to worry about the vatsim controller saying they can't hear me because of the background noise. Been simming for a while but everytime I watch your videos lately it's costing me $$$$ last purchase was the gaming rig now just waiting for the alpha throttle quadrant and I'm set (for now). 🤣

    Good video, but I fly only the X-Plane 11 Zibo B737-800 and it has ATC and ATIS built in. It gives you audio and text so as only one pilot flying the aircraft and handling the radio it makes it
    simpler all around. Yes, I know that the VATSIM is better but I think for only one pilot in the cockpit the default communication that comes with the Zibo works out fine.

    FYI 5x5 is a scale as you said, but there are two characteristics being measured, not just one. The first measurement is for loudness, and the second is for clarity. For example: a quiet but clear transmission could be reported as 2x5. Loud and unintelligible would be 5x1.

  • @alw6824

    Expect altitude is there in case you loose communication. It's more of an advisory than an instruction. Beyond what ATC tells you, your instructions are in the charts. And when they say cleared...for your SID, or climb via SID, that means you are cleared including altitudes at the waypoints. Chances are you'll get an altitude change before the end of the time they give you.
    In many large airports, they have departure and arrival gates. Imagine a fence in the airspace around the airport. A gate is an opening in that imaginary fence. All traffic is directed through those openings during departure and arrival to keep the airspace clear on runway headings.

    Great video thanks! I have a question. Lets say I am at an airport an there is only 1 frequency available (approach/departure) and I am at a gate where I need IFR clearance, taxi instructions and takeoff clearance, who should I contact in that case to get all this clearances I need before takeoff-departure?
    Thanks in advance for your help. And again, great video!

    • @XP72official
      @XP72official  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’d contact the that approach/departure controller. If in doubt contact them and asked if they control your area for clearance. They are usually good about telling you who does if it isn’t them.

    i'm such a nerd and love to learn so thinking about taking the plunge with this... i do my flightplans in simbrief as well, but i also use skyvector to visually plan route and select an altitude as low as i can get away with to enjoy the visuals! will i be frowned upon for filing flightplans at say FL120 in a crj?? honestly the biggest thing for me will be taxing, the only in game assist i use is the taxi ribbon, i fly lots of different airports, and lots of night flying as well! thats going to be a tough obstacle to overcome! skyvector is great for AMERICAN charts! i fly in the states alot but it isn't great outside the US for charts! ya i will probably break down for a navigraph one day!

    Thank you so much for this. I am a well seasoned simmer in most aspects but had really never had the stones to try Vatsim. This has given me more confidence to give it a go. Two questions if I may. I hesitate to ask the first as I suspect the answer is obvious, but will anyways. Due to many reasons I’m having to pause or save a flight and pick up later. Is it safe to say that neither is supported by Vatsim? Also, is there anything out there that lets you practice so you’re not getting in anyone’s way or getting yelled at? Sort of like a Vatsim bunny slope. Thanks again.

    • @XP72official
      @XP72official  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depend on if the airspace is busy or not you could ask the controller if you can pause. Also there is no bunny slope but try at a not so busy field with ATC on.

    Thanks XP72 for this detail. I reckon I'll be able to make a good fist of it after seeing this (and other) tutorials. I've got stuck at the sound set-up though! Like you say, I want to hear ATC in the headset and other sounds on the speakers. In the MSFS sound set-up it talks about setting a default communications device in windows ... but my Windows10 no longer mentions "default communications device" anywhere, and I've seen others mention on forums that this has been removed from the sound settings. So how have you done it?

    Great great video! So helpful. So do you completely disable the in game ATC? Completely ignore it? How about pushback? Do you just mute the comms then in game?
