I go off road not primarily to go off roading, but to accomplish other tasks: fishing, hunting, camping, Christmas tree cutting, work, etc. My rigs are usually dirty, inside and out, but mechanically sound and prepared for trouble. Modest lifts, a winch, and just large enough tires and not much fluff. Always happy to help others in trouble, with trips never being documented for the world to see on the internets.
I’m like you, my 2013 2500 Silverado is my work, hunting, fishing, snowboarding, boat and camper hauling rig. It is tricked out with a full bumper grill guard, winch, over sized tires, head ache rack for hauling lumber, good off-road shocks and light bar and ditch lights. Tears it up in the mountains of SW Colorado. It can pull 15,000lbs all day.

You forgot about the type of off-roader that will literally take any vehicle whether it's meant for off-road or not and take it off road whether it's souped up for not or even if it's 2 wheel drive
I'm a mixture of 1, 2 & 3. Had my JT a little over a year. Just planned on doing easy to moderate trails. After 6 months of owning it I started overlanding/camping and rock crawling. Will definitely be beefing up the axles later down the road.
I have a Suzuki Jimny and go offroad to explore and accomplish tasks, surfing, camping, fishing and surfing again. My jimny is small but capable enough, light modifications. I like to go offroad to get far away from everything and have fun.
I'm no rock crawler, U boat commander fording river and streams or Monster truck owner. I use my Jeep to get me to my favorite hunting, fishing or day trip adventures.
This is hilarious. I think ya nailed it. I’m an overlander and I legitimately just swapped my old ranger for an old hilux because the ranger blew up lmao.
I represent another class, the "urban 'wheeler". Not to be confused with "mall crawler". My primary use of the large tires and added ground clearance is to hop curbs to get out of slow drive-through lines, climb over medians to get around stuck traffic, or to drive across the shoulder to exit the highway prematurely when there's a jam. At least a couple times a week I do something in my rig that would not be possible, or would at least be risky, in a lower truck or car. The other distinction between an urban 'wheeler and a mall crawler is that the urban 'wheeler will go in the dirt and is not built for show. I've had my truck for more than two years now and it has never seen the inside of a car wash. The truck is my daily driver, my only vehicle. So I'm not interested in "testing" it on the trails. I don't camp, haven't been hunting in decades, no real reason to go "off road". But we get a lot of flooding here in the DFW so ground clearance is always good. In fact, my future plans revolve around improving its fording capabilities so I can help people in flooded neighborhoods.
What about the hunting rigs? built to be reliable, warm, smallish and stealthy. Get into a location with little fuss and reliably start after sitting in the woods for 12 hours.
For me I don't Jeep with others but would if I knew how to connect more with other Jeepers in my area..But primarily my Jeep is for work and goes off road every single day. I work in the world of dirt in oil and gas exploration. Secondly it is for hunting, fishing,camping. So I say I am an overland at heart .

But I am dipping my toes into overlanding and yes you are on point.....and introvert 🤣 I enjoy the solitude that comes with hiking and got the bug to combine that with overlanding.
Im in the cruise cregslist, buy whatever 20+ year old 4x4, spend a few months building it out with the essentials, and then send it down whatever trail i can find.
We build beach rigs, surf buggies, tricked out with surf rods, gear, coolers, kayaks, all the goodies to spend a couple days on a lonely stretch of beach. Not as exciting as racing, or rock bouncing, but fun all the same.

Here on the upper east coast we have the mudder/crawler hybrids! One weekend we can be up in the woods in pennsylvania crawling rocks and 2 weeks later be down in south jersey running through the pines mud pits 🤣
Definitely 2. But I got a v10 excursion. Reliability of a super duty but the room to haul whatever I want. One ton solid axles 430s rear locker. Beast of a truck. I love adventuring especially when very few can get there. I love helping people tho. I will save anyone. Hence the Excursion lol. I gotta say you did nail it. Im introverted but try to make new friends. Idc what you have if you don't talk shit I won't. We can have some fun no matter the brand. I am a metal head. So you hit that on head. Good job

Nailed it. I’m about 10% of the way between Jeeper and Crawler. Just put hydro assist on last summer…. Just lacking long arms, LS swap, stickies…. Oh, and the ever important 100% dngaf…. Not quite there…. Just paid this thing off 🤣. First marriage though with no end in sight, so I have that going for me. Alcoholism limited to finishing workouts on burnout reps of 12oz curls.
But my favorite group are the “Aussies”. They buy a brand new diesel Toyota Landcruiser, shopped in half, put a flatbed and build a self sustaining rig and go muddying, climbing and camping, not to mention their river crossings are very dangerous because of the crocs that can be hiding under the surface and the most venomous snakes around. This group are very good costumers because they even carry a bunch of spare parts in case they brake down in the middle of no where.
I would agree that overlanders are more in love with nature if they weren't all so reliant on equipment and being comfortable. Most of them don't even seem to want to sleep in a tent that isn't on top of their vehicle.
The kind that lifts a mini and brings it where it doesn't belong.... Also owning a mini is like owning a jeep lmao we park next to eachother no matter how far we have to walk, we wave, and we customize everything... a lot of us also own jeeps because of the loyalty and the communities they have. Eventually I'll buy one too On the streets I'm more like the jeep group, but I fit more into the introverted overlanding group.
What is it wen u daily it but still go to elbe ad flop it over. Or go to browns camp and do the most hardest trails, all this and i still drive truck home from the weekend of offraods. Its a toyota stock 22re with an atlas t-case on 35's. I mean it is geared air locked and axle shafts.
I'm in the Blended category. Depends where I am and what we're doing, count me in. My rig is quite capable of most terrains except speed. 2002 TJ 3 spd auto 5.13s, lockers and 35s. I'll never see 70, ever.
Scenery flying by at 70 mph plus, is life passing you by too quickly! Get in the right hand lane of life to live and fully enjoy it! Besides, it lets all the people stare at your rig time to enviously dream of what adventures you are heading out to do. Off-road people exemplify all things prepared, competent, helpful, search, rescue, first aid capable, that clean living and being in touch with your surroundings offers. It is fun to reach the destination, enjoy the ride there as well!
I'm an introvert kind of Jeeper. I don't like large groups of Jeeps and I don't partake in the "Jeep Wave" stuff. In the rare occasion that I do wave, it's more than likely to someone with a nice looking real Jeep (2006 and older.) 😂
You also have the “Wannabes” the ones that don’t live close to any mountain, trail or mud hole and just build their rides to look awesome but never go off road. Those will be your worse costumer because they never brake anything or need tires regularity. I see a lot of those down in South Florida. Heck I might become one of them with my retirement vehicle😂
Sadly Jeeper in your term tend to be snobs that look down on anything that's not the Wrangler or new Gladiator. If it's a uni-frame jeep that matches or out does them then they get pissy and will rarely do the jeep wave. But what do you expect from Barbie Jeeps :)
Im a jeeper with my 2011 jeep grand Cherokee, and I've tried to outfit it to make sure it will go everywhere I need it to in any weather, although I realize it will never go anywhere my 1975 dodge ramcharger would go. I know my jeep will never have the ground clearance or bulletproof steel body of my dodge
My exp with jeepers is that they are loyal to Jeep to the point where if you don't have a Jeep logo on your rig and maybe even you. Then you don't have an off roader. Jeep doesn't mean 4x4 off road vehicle, it means Chrysler/AMC product Jeep. The jeeper will explain how your jeep adjacent vehicle isn't a Jeep and you can't bring it to their party, Toyota drivers need not apply! They are the freemasons of the off road world. They know the secret and its solid front and rear axles, lockers, silly tires and a Jeep logo.
Ok so dont know were ide sit ...so me well my ride a 2000 awd durango 3 row lifted body and torse lift 33s goodyears 5.9 ..loc right rear locker .. for over 3 yrs this would go every day off grid 15 miles 1 way thru mud ext snow ,water run offs to drop kids off for school bus at freeway just to turn around to go home rain snow ice or mud had no choice but to persists thru.. times when drop kids off dry out goto main city to shop just to come back to over 1.5 " of rain in a few hrs .. thered be new jeeps ,high end trucks all stuck sayin ide not make it multiple times but pretty much allways did shes now got 259000 miles and ive just redone her as a promis if she got me out of a bad time ide take care of her so did for a fraction of a new suv ...
Hey, overlanders are just as quick to help someone on the trail and are much more social. Jeeps guys are a little snobbish. An overlander is the first person to wave at another rig, regardless of the manufacturer. and ya, the reliability of a Toyota……..

But my favorite group are the “Aussies”. They buy a brand new diesel Toyota Landcruiser, shopped in half, put a flatbed and build a self sustaining rig and go muddying, climbing and camping, not to mention their river crossings are very dangerous because of the crocs that can be hiding under the surface and the most venomous snakes around. This group are very good costumers because they even carry a bunch of spare parts in case they brake down in the middle of no where.
I would agree that overlanders are more in love with nature if they weren't all so reliant on equipment and being comfortable. Most of them don't even seem to want to sleep in a tent that isn't on top of their vehicle.

Also owning a mini is like owning a jeep lmao we park next to eachother no matter how far we have to walk, we wave, and we customize everything... a lot of us also own jeeps because of the loyalty and the communities they have. Eventually I'll buy one too
On the streets I'm more like the jeep group, but I fit more into the introverted overlanding group.
What is it wen u daily it but still go to elbe ad flop it over. Or go to browns camp and do the most hardest trails, all this and i still drive truck home from the weekend of offraods. Its a toyota stock 22re with an atlas t-case on 35's. I mean it is geared air locked and axle shafts.

I'm in the Blended category. Depends where I am and what we're doing, count me in. My rig is quite capable of most terrains except speed. 2002 TJ 3 spd auto 5.13s, lockers and 35s. I'll never see 70, ever.
Scenery flying by at 70 mph plus, is life passing you by too quickly! Get in the right hand lane of life to live and fully enjoy it! Besides, it lets all the people stare at your rig time to enviously dream of what adventures you are heading out to do. Off-road people exemplify all things prepared, competent, helpful, search, rescue, first aid capable, that clean living and being in touch with your surroundings offers. It is fun to reach the destination, enjoy the ride there as well!

I'm an introvert kind of Jeeper. I don't like large groups of Jeeps and I don't partake in the "Jeep Wave" stuff. In the rare occasion that I do wave, it's more than likely to someone with a nice looking real Jeep (2006 and older.) 😂

You also have the “Wannabes” the ones that don’t live close to any mountain, trail or mud hole and just build their rides to look awesome but never go off road. Those will be your worse costumer because they never brake anything or need tires regularity. I see a lot of those down in South Florida. Heck I might become one of them with my retirement vehicle😂

Sadly Jeeper in your term tend to be snobs that look down on anything that's not the Wrangler or new Gladiator. If it's a uni-frame jeep that matches or out does them then they get pissy and will rarely do the jeep wave. But what do you expect from Barbie Jeeps :)
Im a jeeper with my 2011 jeep grand Cherokee, and I've tried to outfit it to make sure it will go everywhere I need it to in any weather, although I realize it will never go anywhere my 1975 dodge ramcharger would go. I know my jeep will never have the ground clearance or bulletproof steel body of my dodge

My exp with jeepers is that they are loyal to Jeep to the point where if you don't have a Jeep logo on your rig and maybe even you. Then you don't have an off roader. Jeep doesn't mean 4x4 off road vehicle, it means Chrysler/AMC product Jeep. The jeeper will explain how your jeep adjacent vehicle isn't a Jeep and you can't bring it to their party, Toyota drivers need not apply! They are the freemasons of the off road world. They know the secret and its solid front and rear axles, lockers, silly tires and a Jeep logo.

Ok so dont know were ide sit ...so me well my ride a 2000 awd durango 3 row lifted body and torse lift 33s goodyears 5.9 ..loc right rear locker .. for over 3 yrs this would go every day off grid 15 miles 1 way thru mud ext snow ,water run offs to drop kids off for school bus at freeway just to turn around to go home rain snow ice or mud had no choice but to persists thru.. times when drop kids off dry out goto main city to shop just to come back to over 1.5 " of rain in a few hrs .. thered be new jeeps ,high end trucks all stuck sayin ide not make it multiple times but pretty much allways did shes now got 259000 miles and ive just redone her as a promis if she got me out of a bad time ide take care of her so did for a fraction of a new suv ...

Hey, overlanders are just as quick to help someone on the trail and are much more social. Jeeps guys are a little snobbish. An overlander is the first person to wave at another rig, regardless of the manufacturer. and ya, the reliability of a Toyota……..
