1971 was horrific with GM when they implementated bad engineering for positive flow ventilation. Nearly every GM car had that watertrap- rot slot system stamped in the rear for 1 year only. Their positive ventilation system turned the cars into bath tubs if drain holes at sills, floors, etc were not obstruction free. And then you had owners that rarely left windows partially down, hatch/ trunk open for moisture to vent out now and then

The main reason for the forced air ventilation system was to keep the passenger compartment free of cigarette smoke and grandma's perfume smell, well ok maybe not so much a grandma thing, but it was meant to have a constant flow of fresh air. Unfortunately it caused more problems with pulling exhaust fumes into the car and in cold weather states the drain holes would freeze and the trunk would fill with water and well you know what happens when that happens. RUST NEVER SLEEPS. NO Trunk floor and no more deck lid. They were cool looking in my opinion. JS
