Children Should Play Outside, Hard Work, & Matt Might Be Allergic to ME 😀

  • Even with all the rain and mud we managed to get our cabbage plants set out and do one of the chores we've been dreading. We talked about hard work, the importance of kids playing outside, how I wish I had a swing, and Matt's sinus headaches. Spring of the year is a beautiful time in the mountains of Appalachia 😀

Headaches😊! About 25 years ago I went to a cardiologist who suggested that my body was not getting enough oxygen. I then was tested for sleep apnea. One of the symptoms is snoring. If you do snore go to your doctor and ask for a sleep apnea test! It cured my headaches right away!

We spent our holidays, weekends, and after school up trees, in the bush or long grass making huts or making imagination games. Swimming cycling making rafts for the river. My children did the same and now I’m thrilled to see that they encourage my grandchildren to do the same..to get them off their phones and computer games. Some of their friends have no idea how to climb a tree or make a outdoor hut. So sad.

I'm fairly new to your YT channel and I have been skipping around the channel not in any order. Thoroughly enjoying your way of life, family values, etc. One thing I want to mention is how touched I am that you folks are living on land that has been passed down from generation to generation. If I'd have waited a year I could have had it and everything else I put in where I moved from. I feel for you!! Y'all have really been having them last few years!! They start in Texas then go across Oklahoma where I live, and get worse as system goes across Arkansas then worse on over Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee!!

My Dad was one of 5 children and grew up in a small town of less than 400 people. In the summer, my grandmother would call them in for supper with a big bell that she had mounted on one of her clothesline posts. It was pretty loud and you could hear it for a long way. My dad and his siblings knew that was when they had to come home. It was still there when I was little, and she gave it to my dad when keeping up the house got too much for her and moved to an assisted living apartment.

Getting closer to planting. So exciting. I used to be terrified of thunder and lightning storms. My mama was the one that made all four of us girls really afraid of it. When she was about four years old there came a really big storm rolling in and just has my granny stuck her head out the door and told her to get on in the house, that a bad storm was coming, lightning hit the little metal tea kettle that she had been playing with outside. Granny said it knocked her so high up in the air off of the ground that she almost was at the level of the roof of the house and then she fell back to the ground. She had passed out and my granny went out and picked her up and brought her in the house and she was unconscious but still alive. Granny had the doctor come out and look at her and he pretty much said that he didn’t know if she would come out of the coma or not and he couldn’t promise her that my mama would live. My granny called the preacher from the church they attended and he came out and he prayed for my mama and the next day she started coming around and eventually was full awake. She lost all of her fingernails and big handfuls of her hair. Granny said as she got better her fingernails grew back absolutely beautiful and I remember they were always as hard as a rock. My nails were always thin and they were always breaking but not hers and her hair grew back in so thick and beautiful but she was always terrified if she even heard thunder off in the distance. She would get all of us girls and herself and we would all have to sit in the master bedroom closet until the storm was over. The only thing we liked about having a bad storm was she wouldn’t let us do the dishes after supper on a school night cause we all had to get a bath, finish our homework and go to bed. We were not allowed to be around the dog either because she said animals drew lightning. I think I was pretty much at the end of my 30s before I finally got to a point to where as long as I’m in the house I wasn’t so afraid of storms anymore. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida 😎🦩🌞🦩😎

my little mother, God bless her, married my father at age 15, had me a month after her 17th birthday, and my brother a month before her 19th birthday. needless to say, we kept her a nervous wreck.
she told us that noise drew lighting.
so Granny was over visiting when a storm come up, and we little boys got so quiet and hushing each other that she asked us why.
we Innocently whispered to her that noise drew lighting.
i'll never forget the sly look she gave Mother.

Looking forward to seeing amazing things starting to pop up all over your wonderful yard ! Just wanted to share, a friend has terrible allergies, especially in the spring including wakin' up with bad headaches . And one thing that seems to have helped( if it's not a habit already) is to take a shower before bed to "wash off the day" = all the dust, pollen & whatever all off head & skin so it doesn't get on the pillow & sheets and rub into your face all night. I was 17 in 1974 when the tornadoes came through so many states. I'm in middle TN and remember my parents waking us kids up to go to basement about 1:00 in the morning. Tornado traveled over the top of the house. I remember that sound. We didn't have damage. So many people lost their lives here. Needless to say, my anxiety goes to another level when it storms.

We went barefoot all the time when we were young. Found out about "grounding" a few years ago. Who would think what we did when we were younger was healthy. LOL 🙃
Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to contact with the Earth's surface electrons by walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems, some of them patented, that transfer the energy from the ground into the body. Studies show that just 30 minutes of grounding barefoot can heal pain, reduce inflammation and improve quality of sleep.

Hello neighbor ❤ Nice to see you here. Tipper is so much like my mother’s family, from the Appalachian Mountains. They were the most beautiful and amazing people and the ones I knew are gone. Watching this family is a real comfort and blessing for me. I’m very thankful to have found her here.
Praying that everyone stays safe through the storm season. 💗🙏

The things you two discuss are the same things I experienced through most of my life. Both of my grandfathers were farmers and I loved the life. I miss the days of being tired from outside work.

In these days of stress and concern it is so good to just watch good people living normal life and doing normal chores. Example is the greatest teacher. As the Good Book says let your life be the preacher.

I love your old clothesline. My Mama never owned a dryer. I still like the rough feel of line dried towels.

In your green house have you tried to put that screen shades over the roof and that would make it a lot cooler with the shade and you still get enough light to grow the plants.

That would work if we could get more air flow. Wish we has a high tunnel so the sides could be raised 😀

When wanting to go swimming in the spring our mum would say ‘when there’s enough blue in the sky to make a pair of cats pyjamas’ you can. It seemed odd and we didn’t think too much about it. We lived all summer barefoot.. shoes to school but even then we hid our shoes in the hedge and collect them to wear home.

I love watching your videos. You n Matt working together brings back memories of my late husband n I working til we were so tired. Grew a acre garden. We helped each other like you two do. We also sold hundreds of pounds of vegetables at our local Farmers Market. I have family in Tennessee n Kentucky. I miss our life. And I love your popsicle breaks! Lol keep up the hard work. The fresh air does help for a good nights sleep or you end up with muscle aches lol

Tell Matt I was that way when my children were little. When the weather was bad, I would wake up and check them. Then I was up for the night.
