- What’s better than an M5? Many of them! On today’s episode of Inside BMW Group Classic, our own Christoph and Benny discover three variants of the E34 M5: the ‘Gentleman’s Express’ sedan; the ultra-rare state-of-the-art M5 Touring; and the Nürburgring ring taxi!

So sad when they mentioned Sabine. She was alive during this filming and probably laughed when she heard about vomit smell. Rest in peace Queen of Nurburgring!
Oh how sad. Had no idea she died. Glad I got to meet her in 2009 at the Ring with the E60 M5 Ring Taxi. She was impressed with my 7:30 time on the Nordschliefe in a stock E60 M5 in GT4.... "Oh, well show us!" she said. Nice moment and glad I got a pic with her on my Insta account.

Yeah thats why most tryhard carguys who "knows" alot about bmw's. They just say that "the E39 and E60 are best m5's"
For me it will always be the best 5 Series. I miss my 540i so much...

To be fair the first ones were a bit underpowered but the EVO was the dogs nuts. Also a handsome car especially the later face lifted ones.
I would seriously take that museum quality M5 over a bugatti or lambo. SERIOUS

Best 5 series ever made in my opinion and one of the best straight 6 aspirated engine
From May 1994, the M5 E34 was only available with a 6-speed manual transmission at no extra charge, the last M5 model had the large 345 compound brake system as standard as the adjustable Nürburgring suspension and the wide facelift kidney grille. The fastest production sedan was an E34, but not the M5 but the Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo.

You are correct. I own a 1995 production E34 M5 Touring 3.8L 6MT car and it does have all of those options.

@@timmietz never sell it and keep it clean. Only 209 units of the 3.8-liter touring 6-speed manual M5 were produced. this vehicle is m3 csl, z8, m1, 2002 turbo, z3m coupe much more rare and valuable than all of them

I love the E34! The styling is timeless, there were so many great models like the Alpina B10 BiTurbo, the Canadian M540i, the 5 series hybrid, the first AWD 5 series, and of course, this M5. I mean the list goes on and on and on of the cool models they have.

There wasn't a coupe concept, however, there was a Cabrio concept that I wish was in this video.

I've always considered the Z8 way over rated because of the movie car thing & retro remakes just aren't cool. Just give me a nice E39 M5 in the launch color Silverstone/black&Silverstone sport interior.

My father used to own a 3.8 E34 6 Speed with the Nurburgring Package and it had the same interior as the Touring in this video!

still drive my M5 on the Ring.... still holds on and still kicks ass..... but I think it will retire after this season to only some special days since it will become a historic car soon.

Love that Touring sunroof!! Unfortunately, all parts for E34 sunroofs for both Touring and Sedan are NLA. Maybe you could start making those parts again? I am afraid to open the sunroof on my 1991 E34 M5 because it may break and I can't get replacement parts!
There definately must be custom builds.. nice car you have there..
I disconnected my sunroof switch years ago as everything worked and I wanted to keep it that way. Never used it anyway.

I'd love to get my doorseal for my E36 coupe though... I know you guys handle that now and I've been waiting over a year and can't wash the car or have it sit in the rain without that seal!

Around 2014 I bought an E34 525i, white outside gray inside, automatic transmission with 125k miles on it. Always wanted a BMW and it was my 1st car. I absolutely loved it. After two years of driving it started to break down a lot which is expected after having 4 previous owners. Who knows how the car was treated before me. Anyway, great car. If I could get my hands on a wagon version with manual transmission I'd definitely do it.
Fabulous. I love that Touring. Never seen tan leather on the steering column. And armrests on sport-seats?! OMG. Why weren't they all this way!?
The Touring is A Definite Must on my bucket list. Just waiting for financing...
I love my E34
Darn it. Now I want another E34 M5 all over again. Went from TX all the way to the Canadian border to pick up a Candian (nee' Euro) spec car and that road trip was one of the best vacations ever. It even had the car phone! But more importantly it had the proper M5 four seat arrangement and throwing stars. I could live without the S38B38 engine or six speed (the sixth gear was actually just another overdrive anyways). And yes, these can easily do 170mph on the highway and live up to being the fastest German car at the time...so a friend told me

I think throwing stars are my favorite BMW wheels.
Those earlier narrow grill versions look much nicer than the '94 onwards wide grills...

Fantastic episode, especially as I have a 1995 model M5 (and also a 525i btw)! But was 6-speed gearbox, bigger brakes etc really available as an option before 1995, I have always thought it was only available in the 1995 model and as standard then with the Nürburgring package? Or do you mean it was sold as an upgrade package by dealers afterwards for your used M5? Thanks and looking forward to more episodes!!
maaan.. I just love the E34 :D I own i 520i and 525i and 515ix touring. It's soo hard to find a good m5 in norway that isent rusty and totaly destroyed.
Gutes video, aber man hätte mehr auf die Vorzüge und technischen Innovationen des e34 eingehen können. Wie z.b. die elektrische Lenksäule die sich beim ein u. Aussteigen hochklappt. Außerdem hätte ich gedacht das ihr einen M5 in der Nürburgring Edition da stehen habt und über das elektrisch verstellbare Fahrwerk etwas erzählt.
Eure Videos dürfen ruhig länger und umfassender sein, die leute die sich das anschauen, wollen genaue details und die schönen autos mit allen facetten sehen. Lg ✌️

The biggest mistake BMW ever made was not replacing the E24 635CSi with a two door coupe based on the E34. It would have been amazing.

Yes. From the model year 1995 on, the BMW M5 (E34) was equipped with the six-speed manual gearbox as standard.
I would love to get an E34 M5 touring for my photography job. A lot of space and I can use the roof for rolling shots 😆
