I've been up to 80 psi before just setting the bead on one of these tires..
It always helps to put a wrench longways in one side of the tire holding large section of the bead down in the well of the tire with thr wrench wedged under the rim lip. Totally makes rolling the last edge over the rim much easier. I use my 12mm since I need it anyway to remove the tire stem lock and rim locks. Another cheep tire wrench works to place longways under the rim and hold the bead into the well. If I have any trouble I might use both the wrench and a cheap lever under 2 places to hold large sections of thr bead deep into the center well just for an extra inch room to pull the last bead over the rim. Works really well.
Yeah, Jason said he had to put A LOT of air in his as well. Huh yeah I suppose a wrench would help keep things in place, nice!
Both of those DR’s will be in great shape to tackle some serious off road riding with those tires. One thing I recommend to my other duel sport riding buddy’s is to keep an eye out for a good deal extra set of wheels. It is really nice to have a road orientated set and a dirt orientated set that can be quickly swapped out.
That is a good idea! I've actually got a set for my XR. Considering installing some ice tires on them!

I've changed a boat load of bike tires, here's a couple tips.
When taking the tire off pry both sides out over the rim then pull the rim out of the tire with the tube still in it. This sounds weird and doesnt work on car tires at all but works great on bike tires. This is faster/easier.
Most importantly when putting the new tire on the absolute first thing you do is get the tube ready with air and baby powder and put the tube in the tire. Then you stick the valve stem through the hole in the rim before ever prying the tire on the rim. After that you pry it on like you're doing. There is no need to struggle with the valve stem at all.
I use balancing beads, I like em, they stay in the tube and every tire I change after that is balanced.
I've also used 100psi with wd40 on the bead a bunch of times to seat beads.

A little easier to line up and get the chain on if you take the plastic guard off. Appreciate all your videos. Love checking them out when I get the notifications that they’re up.

I also use the MT21 with D606 (klx300). I installed them only using YT videos and no experience. Lots of things can affect how well they work. He has the right SIZES 21/19". Another thing that MAY affect perception and wear, is weight of the bike. Also throttle control can have a lot to do with how long they last. - I remounted that MT21, 3 times and beat it with a mallet and I could not get it to seat evenly until I took the bike for a 75-mile ride.

Unfortunately due to an old neck injury and no stand I take tires to the local bike shop now. It's kinda pricey but let the younger guys beat themselves up over my tires lol.
Haha yeah, after injuring myself the last two times I was almost ready to give it up too. I think if it wasn't for the stand I probably would've by now!
I would use Murphy’s tire compound in a mini bucket that will last you a life time. Since I travel full time and space is essential I use dish soap in a spray bottle and have never had problem with the bead not seating. Bonus, I get a clean tire and rim when I’m done.
I almost bought some of that! Figured I'd try this first, but I think once the can is gone I'll probably pick some up!
Obviously there is so many opinions on what way is the best when changing tires on a bike.
My preferred method is lots of soapy water, NO TALK or powder that just helps the tire turn on the rim (especially on the rear wheel) soapy water will eventually evaporate and leave the tube with good contact with the tire preventing slipping. both nuts on the valve core on the out side snug up the bottom one... NOT tight just good and snug! then lock it there with the top nut.... air up the tire and make sure the bead seets on the rim... then let ALL air back out of the tube this allows the tube to set itself evenly around the tire. then air it up and go ride. ....SERIOUSLY no powder when installing the tire and tube... just soapy water!
I've never had a tire turn on the rim doing it this way but I have with powder ! several times in fact.... it's not nice to have the valve core rip out of the tube doing 60~70mph !
NO POWDER GUYS ! (powder=ripped out valve cores!) it's not the nut placement it's the powder.... if the tire turns on the rim and there is no nut and the valve core slides into the rim you have a major problem getting the air out of the tube to get the tire off.... you have to poke a hole in the tire into the tube...that's the only way ! ( been there done that with powder!)..... so no powder, soapy water only !
as far as getting the bead to seat that is where your powder will fight you. I had one tire that would not seat at all I broke the bead loose on both sides put straight dish soap on it on both sides and aired it up to about 50psi before it popped on ! some tires are much tighter than others ! yah that makes you nervise as hell airing up a motorcycle tire to 50~60 psi... but it's gott'a seat !
dish soap is your friend with tires ! ( I use a 50/50 mix most of the time of soap and water)
Huh, interesting. I've always heard that talc was required, but if you're going to let all the air out anyway that should take care of most tube issues. Beats having to mess with a tire spinning on a tube too. The soapy water also seems to help lock the tire in place a bit too. I've noticed them sticking to the rim slightly after using it. I'll give that a shot next time!

you guys are to young to re-tire....😁😁. I usually send mine out ...rims only....and only do it myself if on a trail. When I did them myself, I used the power of the sun....nothing like an hour in the sun to make the toughest tire pliable. Great video . Garth

I've never balanced the tires on my KLR or KLX and never noticed any difference. To me unless you're doing 70+MPH regularly on non-knobby tires the balance will go out the first rock you hit on a trail. On my V-Max however or anything else with a smooth street tire balance is critical.
Yeah, I'd be interested to see how much it affects the riding I do. Probably not much at all haha.
That front tire is not beaded all the way I hope you did not send him down the road that way.
I'm certainly no expert, but a lot of them actually recommend taking a troublesome tire for a quick ride to help seat the bead.

Why exactly? Where's the tire going to go? Even if it was caused by a pinched tube, the worst case would be a flat, and that's a risk we run anytime we take a bike out on the road...

Learning how to fix motorcycles watching TH-cam videos is one thing, you are posting how to fix motorcycles as you learn how to fix motorcycles is another. People watch your videos to enjoy motorcycles and your content. Please don't take this wrong but you should stick to riding and gear reviews. Leave the mechanical stuff to another TH-cam page or go to school to learn how to work on them.

@@SwankyCatProductions To start with I watch your videos and like most of what you do. You don't know me and don't know what I do for a living. With that said I do know you do these videos for a living and I support you by watching your videos, when you are working on your bike you watch TH-cam or google to figure out the information you need to complete the task at hand which is fine but there are people out there watching your videos getting info to work on their motorcycle. There is no motorcycle manufacture or tire manufacture out there that would tell someone to ride it or do wheelies to seat the tire. If you took your car or motorcycle to a shop, would you think that's ok? You are learning how to work on motorcycles and putting out videos on how to do things and you don't have the knowledge or experience to do how to videos. So, as I said before you should leave the mechanical videos up to someone with the experience and knowledge to teach people the correct way to work on their motorcycles.

However, unless you're hinting that you're some sort of lawyer who specializes in the legality of instructional content, I think your concern is misplaced (if that is the case however, I'd be all ears). The Internet is filled with untrustworthy information that should always be used at your own risk. If showing myself working on bikes is a hazard in your eyes, than isn't showing myself riding them even more dangerous???

It makes the content so much more interesting than a simple "how to" video. Keep doing what your doing. I love the longer content videos of you tinkering around in your garage.
