I got 8.5 in speaking, and I can proudly say that this channel helped me a lot to prepare for it. One thing I'd like to add is that speaking isn't as difficult as it sounds. You just have to relax and be confident..
Hey Chris Just to say thank you for all your videos. I received my results few days ago and I had 8 overall (L8.5, R7.0, W7.0 & S8.5). All I did was listen to your videos and the strategies you teach. Keep it up
I'm so glad you interview candidates that speak plainly without too many decorations because that's how I speak normally and it's reassuring to know that that is enough (as long as we respect the main criteria)! I used to think that for band 8 and 9 you have to speak like a PR expert! 😵😊
OMG I cannot recommend your channel enough. Chris, you're the most straightforward teacher I've seen online. The thing is, my family never had the money to send me to an IELTS learning center, and your videos help me a lot. You clearly know what you're telling viewers in your videos, and your tips just work, perfectly. I've taken a test organised by IDP last December. Even though my results was investigated for a while, today I've received it. Overall: 8.0; Reading & Listening: 8.5; Writing & Speaking: 7.0. And I've only actually been preparing for my test for 2 months (albeit I've learned English for years). Your videos gave me so many good tips, hence helped me to avoid the bad tips all over the Internet. It's safe to say that they gave me a whole new prospective about the IELTS test: it's not supposed to be over-complicated, I just need to use what I have in my heart. Again, I cannot express how grateful I am to you. Definitely a channel I'd recommend to my friends and family if they need to take the test. Thank you Chris, from the bottom of my heart.

Hello Chris, I love your work and I do appreciate the efforts you put in. I spent 3days on your channel undersood your tips and got a band 7. As a non-native speaker who has studied in English all through his life, I saw the test to be less difficult and was hoping to get a band 8 or 8.5 without any special preparations but it turned out to be tricky. However, I am okay with 7 and I don't regret my time at your channel. Thanks alot.

@@Ieltsadvantage Sir, I am from Uzbekistan and people here who received a band 7 in IELTS speaking speak better than the woman in the video. I didn't think the entire video was worth watching or spending time on so I skipped much of it. Because her answers are very brief and include the words that are used in the given questions. I personally don't think this is how it's done for 8 and a half. I was disappointed by the reasoning since my expectations did not meet her responses I recommend that you take the speaking exam from an Uzbek candidate with 8.5 and see the difference Peace✌
I have watched some of them, and although many of them are good, it often sounds like listening to a robot or someone who memorized lots of big words. It doesn’t sound like listening to a native-speaker. Try listening to what real English sounds like rather than what ‘IELTS’ English on TH-cam sounds like.
When I compare what she spoke in part3 and other videos, her speak was short. But consdering her skill in other parts, she will definitely improve it and get band 9.

I've only been teaching IELTS for 5 years so far and I'm trying to improve every day. So firstly, thanks so much for these videos, they're an excellent resource for any IELTS tutor. May I ask, how can this be a band 8.5 when she's making so many grammatical errors such as 'If you feel hot, you go to the mountains', 'We go ski', 'I used to play wakeboard', etc. For me, as a tutor, these errors feel too frequent; as the band descriptors for band 8 say 'Produces a majority of error-free sentences, with only very occasional inappropriateness or basic/unsystematic errors'. Was she able to achieve a band 8.5 because the other band descriptors (fluency & coherence, lexical resource and pronunciation) were so good? If you could give me a bit more information on how you arrived at an 8.5 that would really help me in my marking, as for me this feels more like a 7.5-8 and I want to re-calibrate my feedback style for my current students. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!
Thank for you for the well-considered response. It’s much better than some of the angry responses we get here. I think there are three problems here: 1. Yes, she does make some errors, but so do all students who get a Band 8 for grammar. Even Band 9 students make little slips. Many people think Band 8 means perfection, it doesn’t. 2. There’s a difference between listening to someone speaking and listening with the intention of analyzing every grammar error they make. Even examiners aren’t listening for and analyzing every little error. 3. What you perceive to be an error, might not be to many examiners. Where I’m from, many of her perceived errors are accurate. This is why many non-natives pick up on errors that native-speakers wouldn’t even hear. Text-book English vs. real English. I also think that there are so many scripted videos out there that when someone hears what a real student sounds like, they perceive it in a warped kind of way.
@@Ieltsadvantage I've found other IELTS tutors can be slightly elitist indeed..as a result of that, it makes it quite hard to open discourse with other tutors and improve. As you mentioned, there are so many scripted or badly marked speaking tests on TH-cam that it's really hard to discern which ones are accurate for less experienced teachers like myself. I'm a native English speaker and I love grammar. Perhaps I'm being too strict with my students indeed. I think your second point is really crucial as so many tutors on TH-cam are vocal about correcting every little mistake our students make whilst listening in order for our students to improve. This is not the same as just listening to someone speaking. I have one more question if you have time: For me, I tend to make fewer notes for Part 1 when marking (and would normally only mention things like timings and structural mistakes/over-sharing) as I use Part 1 to get a feel for how the speaker speaks and their natural diction (if any) so that I don't mistakenly mark someone down for hesitation when they are simply a naturally slow speaker, for example. Then I use that context to fully mark their speaking part 2 and part 3 with some specific errors and other general repeated errors. Is this a normal and beneficial way of marking the speaking test? Or do you feel like it's just as important to mark the IELTS Speaking Part 1 section the same as the others? Thanks in advance!

Speaking test not more than baking of stories, if it becomes Cake you will get Band 7 or 8, otherwise if baking turns out to bread you may get band score 6 or 6.5... Baking will always depends on the dish you might have been received to be baked... 😅😅😅
Mr Chris my speaking was much better than seen in the reference videos on TH-cam, but the score was truly disappointing for me. The examiner asked me too many questions and never gave me any chance to complete them. She interrupted almost every answer I gave, however I answered all thoroughly without hesitating or getting confused. I was awarded 6.5 in speaking only. While the rest of the score was 7.5 writing 8 reading and 8.5 listening
She seems to be a very sweet lady but this was definitely not 8.5 Band. Her answers to part 3 were simple, where she should have expanded on at least 4-5 sentences. What about the phrase "otherwise you put mute" which is incorrect? The video is useful because anyone who thinks can do better in answering these questions, can definitely get above 7.
I think you’re focusing on 1-2 issues whereas an examiner will look at her whole performance holistically and assess all of the marking criteria. Thanks for your comment.
She has used a chunk of words and got 8.5? Unbelievable? I haven’t heard any wonderful vocabulary or an idiom or any complete sentences. No good reason or any important thing. I am pretty much sure ielts not give 8.5 for just no reasoning. To get a good score you need to show some significant flow and fluency not just yes it is good and I watched it was good and good
What I really liked about the conversation is that how she uses simple vocabulary to speak for quite long. Loved it!

wait! did she really deserve 8.5? omg im gladddddddd
I think there are three problems here:
I have one more question if you have time:
For me, I tend to make fewer notes for Part 1 when marking (and would normally only mention things like timings and structural mistakes/over-sharing) as I use Part 1 to get a feel for how the speaker speaks and their natural diction (if any) so that I don't mistakenly mark someone down for hesitation when they are simply a naturally slow speaker, for example.
I think that’s a good approach.
I love these sessions and the constructive feedback.
It does help a lot!
We need more of this.
I achieved 7 bands with 1 month training along with your guidance ❤ Thanks for that !
(req score is just 5)
Congratulations!
She got 8.5 because she was so funny and having nice smiles 😀
I hope i will get 8.5 like this person tomorrow...🙃
Am I wasting my time or is it good reviewing speaking exams before a day 😅
Hi there, that's absolutely fine. I'd like to share a video that you may find helpful: th-cam.com/video/RuvVc3Mdgvg/w-d-xo.html. Best of luck with your test!

Nice 👍🏻 lady intelligently give answer regarding physical health and food related issues
Her pronunciation was so fluent
Hi chris.you are the best teacher a have ever seen.amazing❤
Thank you!
Doesn't she look like Sushmita Sen(Indian actress). However, her pronunciation and ability of answering tough question is impressive❤
yeah she's pretty at first i thought it's Chris wife the way she look at him and the way she responds to every questions but then i saw Chris facebook post congratulating his wife for becoming a British citizen.then i go okay i was mistaken the woman she interviewed was not his wife😊
I wish I was the first male contestant examined in one of your Speaking Exam.
We have had some before.

In part 2 of the test, in case u get a topic about which u hv no idea. Should we make some fictitious story / or lie or tell honestly to replace the topic?
Hi there, you should check this article on our website titled 'IELTS Speaking Part 2 Strategy'. I'm sure you'll find it helpful. If you have any further questions or need our team to help you prepare for your exam, please feel free to contact us.
I liked the way she expressed the word Obese, Sumo.
Speaking test not more than baking of stories, if it becomes Cake you will get Band 7 or 8, otherwise if baking turns out to bread you may get band score 6 or 6.5... Baking will always depends on the dish you might have been received to be baked... 😅😅😅
Superb Speaking Test on IELTS
Chris you're really amazing.
I am not really good at speaking but your videos have helped me a lot. 😊😊
Happy to help! If there's anything we can assist you with regarding your IELTS preparation, please feel free to reach out.
Your are videos are amazing.
Thanks.
In my opinion, she is not able to get 8.5 band in speaking. She is 6 band only 🎉
What is your ‘opinion’ based on?
Thank you! And she is so cute 🥰
If the examiner told u to stop at part 3”Thats all for the speaking test” while i was still explaining about the topic. Is that a good thing or not?
Mr Chris my speaking was much better than seen in the reference videos on TH-cam, but the score was truly disappointing for me. The examiner asked me too many questions and never gave me any chance to complete them. She interrupted almost every answer I gave, however I answered all thoroughly without hesitating or getting confused. I was awarded 6.5 in speaking only. While the rest of the score was 7.5 writing 8 reading and 8.5 listening
Videos are not real exams. I had the same experience as you twice.
Her smile was so interesting 😊
The examiner is very friendly. I like him very much.
How beautiful and nice student I like her intonation☺please make more vedios with her😃❤
Inshaalloh l will take 9
She speaks out of the box
She seems to be a very sweet lady but this was definitely not 8.5 Band. Her answers to part 3 were simple, where she should have expanded on at least 4-5 sentences. What about the phrase "otherwise you put mute" which is incorrect? The video is useful because anyone who thinks can do better in answering these questions, can definitely get above 7.
I think you’re focusing on 1-2 issues whereas an examiner will look at her whole performance holistically and assess all of the marking criteria. Thanks for your comment.
@Ieltsadvantage Thanks for replying! There is always something to learn, and it's good to see your perspective on the method of assessment.
She has used a chunk of words and got 8.5? Unbelievable? I haven’t heard any wonderful vocabulary or an idiom or any complete sentences. No good reason or any important thing.
I am pretty much sure ielts not give 8.5 for just no reasoning. To get a good score you need to show some significant flow and fluency not just yes it is good and I watched it was good and good
But you are the best teacher, would that somebody give me bands like you
Finally an Arbic girl🔥🤩🤩
I can now compare my answer to hers carefully
A few more coming soon.
this is the best channel for me😅😅🥰
5 bands will best for it i think, bcz in most que she is giving one word ans, then later she explains little bit
