- Video about Gawr Gura. I tried to explain three things: The unique circumstances of her growth. Her comedy style. Why she's the largest compared to the other members of HoloMyth. This analysis is largely my opinion.
Tried a new thumbnail style with the hopes of having better branding. Everyone does the square thing, so I did an oval.

I was thinking HoloMyth when I was making the video. Since Myth's release I've slowly drifted away from the JP side to the point I forgot about JP. I'll need to brush up/watch what words I use. EN isn't comparable to JP because of growing under different circumstances.

But degeneracy is the staple of weebs and that I'm not fond off nowadays. I don't want them to lean on the lewd since this brand is also viewed by young as well.

You can sense the genuine reaction from her giggle alone when she saw Kiara's reaction.

Gawr Gura rose quickly due to a variety of reasons, but probably the biggest one that is only touched upon by the video is how meme-able her content is. The video commented on the 'a' debut, the 'feet' saga, and '1 2 5' event with Kiara, but Gawr Gura also had 'pizza in the bathtub', 'Luigi Vacuum stream', 'Boom Baby', DMC saga, and that which gave her channel a second boost in life, her infamous Ring Fit streams. Which a lot of these not only had clips with views in the millions, but had other creators make animations specifically for her voice overs, which further boosted her visibility.
Another big thing that IMO is underrepresented in the minds of people, is her Muse Dash stream (RIP) that cemented her reputation as a skilled rhythm player. There are a lot of people who would only watch streamers if they are proficient at something, and her getting to the top of the Muse Dash leaderboards on stream was proof to a lot of this audience that Gawr Gura was worth watching. This was also a 'redemption arc' of sorts, as her first stream with Maneater was a disaster to which she claimed she was a rhythm player who only knows how to push two buttons, and the Muse Dash was proof of this claim.
Lastly, her music content is not just limited to her official originals/covers. Gura was known as a VERY GOOD singer ever since her debut because of her debut cover of Ride on Time. The meme term City Pop Shark was a result this, and this got her 68k max concurrent viewers on her first Karaoke. And that Karaoke proved that the debut wasn't a fluke, so EVERYONE was waiting on her 2nd Karaoke, of which went up to 119k concurrent viewers.
Now those are the things that propelled her to a big head start compared to any other Vtuber barring Salome (who I believe beat her time to 1mil subs), but her staying power is attributed that Gawr Gura seems to be naturally 'pon' with a dash of 'yabai' (as the video suggested), and with the yabai being subtle (not unlike cartoons), she has a lot of kids watching her. This plus the fact that TH-cam algorithm straight up favoured her in some respects. I mean, her Duolingo Japanese stream was on everyone's recommended videos for at least a year if you even had a passing interest in Vtubers, that Gawr Gura herself commented that even she herself gets it on her recs page and she understood everyone's pain.

As for why Gura's genmates didn't see the same growth as her, the video nailed on the head why Ina/Kiara wasn't as popular. Still popular to CouncilRyS, of which no members still has passed the 1m sub mark, but noticeably slower compared to the others definitely.
Amelia though I disagree - Amelia is in the same boat as Ina in that she doesn't really care much about the growth of her channel, as evidenced by her not wanting to be labelled as Gura's sidekick early in her channel history. If she really wanted the growth, she would have piggybacked from Gura's success, but shortly after the It Takes Two stream, she mentioned she doesn't want to be known as Gura's #2 and so started to have streams earlier or later than Gura's. This lack of a consistent timeslot and her streaming non-popular games has earned Amelia the term 'Debuffson', on top of Amelia cutting back on stream time after the first year (IIRC she was second only to Kiara in terms of hours streamed for the first year) to focus more on the technical aspects of streaming. And Amelia is no stranger to 'scandals' - in fact, Amelia is the first one with a major yabai incident with 'AMEgeddon', which I won't get into this post.
As for Calli, Calli's subs are of a different beast than Gura. A lot of those subs are those who are mainly interested in her music only, which on top of those who regularly watch her, would explain why her subs are second highest for EN as she is tapping into another audience pool.
Thanks very much for posting. It's a shame you're not getting in on this YT niche that is VTuber analysis. I learned a lot from this post, to the point where I reflected on just how little I know when it comes to this vast rabbit hole that we're all in.

Yet another "the secret to Gura's success" video that doesn't even mention Gura's epic unarchived themed karaoke streams.
Not to mention, she has a particular kind of personality, she's sassy, she loves to roast chat when chat bullies her, only to immediately apologize for being too mean, insinuating chat is like a child that can't take the heat. It's not just playing the "I'm dumb" card, she knows how to take control of a livestream. She revealed she almost ended up as a host to a children's TV show; that's definitely a skill she puts to use when streaming - contrast that to how Kiara and Amelia let any random hater in chat tilt them off, which often spoils the mood for everyone.
The karaoke streams was an area I definitely needed to research more. Many people have mentioned it as a factor.
Kiara is all around annoying.

Didn't even know Gura got attacked. I knew someone would eventually point out the whole "loli" thing and try to make it into an issue but it's so insignificant it didn't even register.
What I'm getting is that Gura is and was very lucky. Lucky to be naturally talented and having lucky timing.
Venti's attacks were mostly ignored by everyone, and played no role in Gura's popularity.
@@dkosmari Gura did adress it though in a subtle manner. One of the tags of her streams after Venti's attack was googoo gaga. Sure, it could be Gura just being a goof ball as always, but given how close it was after the attacks, I think it was her mocking Venti without it turning into drama.

Don't know about that statement. Gura definitely have more subs but she don't look even closer to the influence of others like Fubuki, Pekora, Marine or even Korone who constantly get collabs with frikin huge games, like the last Sonic.

Until I saw Gura SING! I love her singing!
I think that it has to do with who she is, or more accurately _WAS_
through her pre-Hololive persona Gura was able to grow a TH-cam Channel to over 1 million subs
This is no small feat and accomplishing it requires specific skills and knowledge that are very hard to acquire and often doing so will result in MANY mistakes and missteps along the way
As such she had a veritable ARMY of haters and detractors leading her to depression and unhappiness
So she stripped herself of that by joining Hololive
This meant she could start fresh, and with nothing holding her back she could use all the skill as a content creator she had worked so hard for while also dodging most of the mistakes she had made before
Coco was another aspect. She bridged the gap so much, that her departure left the door wide open for Gura and the rest of EN to grow, since Coco had a huge western fanbase.
If you know her pre-gura content, you'll know she's genius enough to have her comedic works even end up on the news inadvertently

pretty good analysis there. I can say that, while she hasn't released a lot of original music, Gura's kareoke streams are incredibly popular and some of the most clipped from her early days. Her singing absolutely played a part in her early growth.
Amelia is third because she has been focusing on getting things together and making group events behind the scenes.

The Britney Venti is very vile. I smell her stench in the Eliza Bleu controversy on FNT which i didn't side on both. Britney is a clout chasing snake.
She was right on the Bleu thing, Bleu is a con artist pretending to be a victim. Venti is also a con artist, she's completely anti-porn now, but uploaded her own porn videos to 4chan in the past; she's literally the thot she pretends to fight.
I do not think Gura is stupid but I bet her brain is in streamer mode when she streams... she kinda "recently" said that when the 1 to 5 "accident" happened she was thinking in German cuz it was a German "class" so I do belive that reaction was genuine.

There is 1 thing that you failed to mention in my opinion or didn't mention strongly enough. A big aspect of Gura is also her understanding of internet and especially meme culture which was already the reason her old channel (wont mention which out of respect for the talent) grew over 1 m subs. This not only makes her channel very relateable but also makes it fun to watch basically every single time and opens it up for a really big viewer base. Also while she has a bit of "Yabai" content IMO she has a age handle of 1-99 which ofc is also a big advantage.

Gura gets a big boost from JP viewers. She is EN but has more JP viewers than anyone else in her generation. You can see them in her chat. It's the kawaii factor.
The JP holomems were taken by how kawaii she was at debut.

i think gura's singing is in the background now but back in the day she did regular karaoke, and while i am not sure why, {it might have been temporary ban on singing non rights owned songs} that she stopped doing those. she did a lot of well known older english songs, as well as various japanese songs. but at this point she does not do them often

Don't read into the title too much. It's mostly the first thing that came to mind that sounded good.
There's also the fact that shark loli is the best possible idea.
I like that each of their streams are different. Calli might be the one that needed to grow to be better at streaming, but tried hard. While Ina just bribed viewers by using cookies, big brain Ina.
Gura is just such a gremlin. Whether her 'gura moments' are intentional or not, they are hilarious either way. Also, this was a very well-considered video but I think the 'real' answer is much simpler. Gura appeals to a much wider audience than her peers do. Gura, despite all efforts, is very much like her previous identity and that appeals to a very different group of people than most vtubers appeal to, so she appeals to 'typical' vtuber audiences and also people who wouldn't typically consider themselves vtuber fans.
Most vtubers, to some extent, cannibalize eachothers viewership because people have limited time to spend consuming media and it's a pretty niche industry but it seems apparent to me that Gura built a whole new audience of people (intentionally or otherwise) that weren't already watching vtubers regularly, an audience that is a little more fickle about who they watch.
People tend to forget how wealthy Gura is, as well. With TH-cam alone she has to earn atleast 21k + whatever people donate to her in various ways. I like that shes still down to earth somewhat though.

Being in a Japanese agency, and Gura having the most subs I can't deny she's the Queen. I genuinely like her and Mori so I can't talk anything about it.
And I would feel really bad if any older Holo-talent used his "rank" on them, but I feel none would be able to. They will probably never lose their importance even after they stop using their personas.
And there's some preparations from before them that also helped, Coco and her memes also prepare for them and left a large pot of gold for them to pick it up.

Look, anybody can try to pick apart her wit, but will fail trying to explain it. Let me put it in the simplest answer possible:
Gura is a unique individual, and the internet adores her. No use trying to explain why. Just watch her in action and then you'll know.
That's the thing, every video trying to "reveal Gura's secret" is from people that actually don't watch her.
If you have done you research on Gura's previous life before becoming Gura you would have gotten all your answers.
Gura is a veteran in content creation.
1: Take a famous online personality.
2: Sign them onto a vtuber contract under an assumed identity that you legally own the copyright to.
3: Pretend you're surprised when their gigantic fanbase joins your corporate brand.
4: Profit.
People thinking that all of the things around Gura are fake and made up by corporate or something are just ignorant.
Gura is not acting "dumb" or other certain ways nor is she faking her voice for views. It's her natural personality of an open hearted, little chaotic and playful troublemaker combined with her contrasting adorable mild shyness that makes her so successful. Her Vtuber model reflects that personality, not the other way around.
Psychologically very creative minds are usually not the best when its comes to logical problem solving and numbers because they tend to think in isolated pictures rather then literally, hence why in her mental image, the numbers 1, 2 and 5 appeared as pictures with gaps between them when she heard the sentence "One to Five" rather then what most people think of. And that only amplifies under a pressure situation like when you are live.
All the community stuff like the feet thing is also not some sort of elaborate corporate bit, its a running joke that is common is many if not most streamer communities just (like thighs) and not a hardcore weebs only thing anymore. Coomer jokes have already become main stream internet culture many years ago.

The claims did increase Gura's and Senzawa'z subscriber counts BUT the Tik Tok and Reddit trolls that harassed and eventually doxxed Senzawa after the Battle for Bikini Bottom stream(They sent death threats to her home address which has made her scared of streaming even till today along with other personal issues making the Senzawa character currently mothballed)
The Trolls started attacking Gura because of those theory videos and the Hololive moderators had to step in often but it did drive up subscribers supporting her whether honestly or the user false impressions...............Probably why Gura had a so over it sigh When Kiara brought up she wasnt Brownbee

Gura's comedic genius is underrated. She's witty and quick with her comebacks, certainly not an idiot. At the same time, I wouldn't refer to her 'dumb shark' persona as an act either. After watching her for a while, one can realize that she has issues with concentration and task-switching (she calls it her 'streamer brain'), but she embraces this for an enhanced comedic effect. It's unfortunate that people often fail to recognize this, defaulting instead to the assumption that her popularity must stem from her being a 'loli' who attracts weirdos.

Being the first major foray for a JP company entering into an international English audience, they spread a wide net in terms of concepts and appeal. Rapper, death, Lovecraft, Sherlock, Baby shark, artist, trilingual, fast food, etc
