The first play with Mark Sanchez running into his own player's backside is affectionately known as the Butt Fumble. What made it all the more embarrassing was the play occurred on Thanksgiving night in front of a national TV audience

And what made it even worse, it was in a stretch of ~55 seconds of game time where the Jets had an INT, fumbled a kick return, and then this.... Pats put up 21 points in the blink of an eye.

I love the clip of Tucker looking like he'd entered the Twilight Zone when he missed the extra point. For a little more reference, he's still active and (by percentage) the most accurate kicker in the NFL (maybe even history, but I'm fuzzier on that one). Just this past season he set the NFL record for field goal distance at 66 yards. He is as automatic a kicker as there's ever been in the NFL and he is downright flabbergasted at himself when misses do happen.

The reason the last one is embarassing is because Brady is known as one of the least athletic ball carriers ever and he juked Brian Urlacher who was a highly respected perennial pro-bowl caliber linebacker.

  • @jmkiser33

The last one is that, Tom Brady someone who is just a quarterback and isn't near the level of athlete of players at every other position, was able to juke out Urlacher, an absolute beast Pro Bowler "one of the best linebackers ever" star player.

5:15 In 2015 the NFL moved the placement point for extra-point kicks back to the 15 yard line. When you consider that the end zone is 10 yards, and the kicking team then sets up the holder about 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage, it becomes a 33-yard kick, which is a semi-short field goal. Misses went up dramatically. It had been considered too easy for many years, and the rule change also inspired more teams to opt for the two-point conversion, which from a viewer's perspective is more exciting.

4:35 Garo Yepremian is of Armenian descent, was born in Cyrus, grew up playing soccer, came to the US to play college soccer, and ended up having a very successful career as an NFL kicked. There are a lot of NFL kickers who have a strong background in soccer.

The Leon Lett Play(#2) when the kick was blocked as long as none of the Dallas cowboys touched the ball it was dead ball, end of play, Dallas has possession with a few seconds left and the lead. Blocked Kicks can be returned however, so when Leon Lett went to dive onto the ball(because he thought the rules were the same for a punt, him touching the ball would have ended the play) he sliped and the ball got away from him and the ball was now live for everyone. The Last clip was Brian Urlacher, a once in a generation Linebacker being juked by Tom Brady, who was known to have the worst ball runing skills in the NFL for his career.

3:25 fun fact: that rule is for the NFL only. In college football and down through high school and youth football, if any part of your body other than your hand or feet touch the ground, you're down...So a shin, knee, hip, elbow, forearm, helmet, etc.
I did see one controversial one one time. The guy didn't actually touch like the physical hard ground, but his elbow grazed the top of the blades of grass. It was a long time ago, I don't remember how they ruled it.

4:21 We saw this clip in another compilation. That was Garo Yepremiam, the first "soccer style" kicker in the NFL. He actually played soccer for a team based in London, where they obviously never taught him how to throw. But the Dolphins still won the Super Bowl.

    • @robadamson1
      @robadamson1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That was also in the closing minutes of Superbowl 7, where the Dolphins were closing in on their perfect season in 1972. The field goal blunder was the only blemish on an otherwise fantastic Dolphins performance.

The play at 4:22 is the most ironic one of the lot. It was the Super Bowl in 1972. Miami won, completing the only undefeated season in NFL history with a 17-0 record. Garo Yepremien was the kicker and the Dolphins were up 14-0. The play was botched and he decided to pick up the ball and try to throw a pass. Well, you saw how that turned out. The ironic part is that the touchdown for Washington made it 14-7. Had he made the field goal, it would have made the final score 17-0.

About 10:30, Leon Lett play. That one is a bit confusing if you aren't all that familiar with the rules. The Dolphins made a field goal attempt and missed it well short, still in the field of play, at that point the only team who can make a play on the ball is the Cowboys, if nothing happens the play is over and it's Cowboys ball (and the game is over or basically over for a Cowboys win.) For whatever reason Lett attempts to pick up the ball and in doing so makes the ball live, allowing the Dolphins to pick up the ball and regain possession, and ultimately win the game.
Leon Lett was a great player, but when a lot of people here his name that play is what comes to mind.

When they're kicking through the uprights after a touchdown it's a "PAT" or point after touchdown, worth one point. If you decide to try and kick through the uprights INSTEAD of going for a touchdown, that's a "Field Goal" and it's worth 3 points.

7:40 Here we see Brett Favre during his time with the Minnesota Vikings break one of the golden rules of being a quarterback in the NFL. He scrambled out of the pocket to his right (which is fine) but then tried to throw across his body back to midfield. As a veteran qb he should have known better as it's a known fact those types of passes never work.

    • @krcjayhawks

After you score a touchdown you get what's called a try. You can kick for 1 point or run it for a 2 point conversion. Field goals (Typically, kicks after a third down) are worth 3.

A kick after a touchdown is 1pt and field goal kicks are 3pts. For reference, a touchdown is actually 6pts and the extra kick makes it 7. Extra point kicks are VERY routine and are made MOST of the time because the kick isnt usually far and and is usually the same short yard distance everytime. Where as field goals (3pts) is can be difficult because they can be kicked from very far distances sometimes.
