I have an 2017 fk8 97K miles (w/ aftermarket intercooler and high flow intake and also Hondata stock tune) and run a 0W-20 Pennzoil ultra platinum for daily and auto cross on rare occasions. Planning to start tracking here in Florida during the summer. I’m planning to use 5W-30 or 10W-40 but leaning more towards 5W-30 after watching your video. I’m guessing the thicker weight won’t help with heat management, but will help with higher clearances due to wear/high mileage . Thanks again for your explanation on the matter.

These are expensive cars - Run Amsoil Signature Series. It's worth the extra money. Many many proven UOA's to justify the price. Severe track days - Torco SR-5R is great. Daily driving - Signature Series

But modern 0W-20 oils are 100% synthetic and correspondingly expensive and of better quality than Motul and Amsoil, for example. The term 100% synthetic is something different from the term fully synthetic. They say that 100% synthetic oils maintain the good properties of the oil even at higher temperatures. With the fact that when the engine warms up, it has the same working temperature in winter as in summer, in winter it just takes longer to warm up, but in summer when it's hot, the thermostatic valve is almost always open so that the coolant cools the engine all the time.

My opinion -0w20 for best fuel economy and rly cold conditions. 5w30 for most people and most setups. 5w40 for the extreme setups/conditions.

i use 5w40 for street use , i use Fuchs pro S race oil

I do not have experience with that particular brand but seems to be a UK brand. The only thing I suggest with a race oil is to shorten your charge intervals because race oils do not have as many detergents and dispersants to prevent build up.

Have you used torco sr5r, ? I know they have good reputation among tuners and club race drivers

Great video! What oil brand would you recommend for 10w-40 and 15w-50 ?

    • @Fk8td
      @Fk8td  ปีที่แล้ว +2

If you have the money I would use Amsoil if not Castrol or Mobil 1 are good options.
The 15w50 is only easily found in mobil 1 and Amsoil.
If you chose 15w50 make sure the engine is not only fully warmed but also driven a few miles to allow better flow. Amsoil seams to get to a high flow rate faster than other brands but still maintains good viscosity as it continues to heat up.

17x10 but I’m going to forewarn you that you will sacrifice brake cooling to run them. I’m not sure where you get 120.65 because that’s not the pattern on the type R. A 5x4.75 is not the same as a 5x120.

@@Fk8td Thanks for the info and warning about running 17's. I am
leaning towards the 18X8.5 +38. On Weld's website they have certain sizes of the Ventura listed with a 114.3 or 120.65 bolt pattern. The 18X8.5 are listed with several bolt pattern options, including 5X120. Thanks again. I learn a lot from your videos.

Can we use 0w30 for the FK8?

  • @zacharyhart2279

Does this also apply to the 10th gen accord 2.0T? I’m in Colorado. Am I correct in thinking I’d be ok with Amsoil 5-30 year around on a stock to slightly modded vehicle, or should I do 10-40? I am a daily driver, and not hard on the car constantly as I want to maintain reliability. Also, should I run the Amsoil oil filter, stick with Honda OEM? Thank you for this video. Zach 😊

      The type R’s can use 0w20 - 0w30 - 5w30
      according to the owners manual
if it’s a good oil I would get Amsoil 0w20 because they are usually thicker than any other 0w20 and yes not every oil viscosity is the same!!!! Even if it says 0w20 they’re all different! But u can also go with 0-30 in hot places or 5-30 in extreme conditions
