Epic. I would just like to say that I am loving the "Plough" series. Your consideration and presentation of this is unique in the youtube chess world. We all need a USP. In addition, I would add (and I am unsure if you remember my initial comments about this issue way back when) that your consistent display of the protagonists' ratings is both required and refreshing. Then and now, you would be surprised how many creators omit this critical information. King regards 👍
The moves Magnus finds ARE difficult to spot - but if you look closer, they're almost so obvious. It's so beautiful to see how exploratory Magnus is by genuinely enjoying chess for all of its possibilities, not just its foundations.
A few decades ago, a strong Amsterdam coffehouse player, developed an amazing opening concept which, in my opinion, was the precursor of ''The Plough''. Actually it's an ''advanced double plough'', and we called it ''The Tank''. With black it would be 1....h5, 2....a5 , 3....h4 and 4....a4, and- depending on white's reply- often followed by ...h3 and ....a3. Pawns would then go to e6 and d6, and bishops to e7 and d7. Amazingly, it often results in very positional play, and I love to use The Tank occasionally in blitz games, generally with fine results. It can be played with white and or black, same idea.
Another amazing game by Magnus, and another awesome commentary! These daily Epic Chess videos are the first thing I watch. I know these must take some preparation, so thank you!
Could someone explain why at 9:46 that the pawn isn't moved up to G4 to split the queen and Knight? Black Queen would have to go to G6 or F7, but if the black knight on F5 is taken off, I doubt that a queen trade occurs.
i am really looking forward to the world rapid and Blitz. It is always live on national tv here between christmas and new year. he just does stuff others do not. thanks James.
Great comments while you describe the moves. One of them (1:22) « Silicon overload » !! Well said. But, at first, I thought you said « Silicon Overlord » referring to the D-day ! Thus, because of that « mistake of mine », I was expecting massive strategic moves from Magnus Carlson. I was not disappointed, the dynamics of the game was just great. Finally, I did like too the moment you referred to the so-called “Batman configuration”! Have a great day.
Thanks very much! And what I actually said was ‘silicon overlord’ referencing chess computers because they are all seeing when it comes to chess and they help us prep and analyse etc but the moment your turn them off you’re on your own! And equally if you can take a super GM out of their preparation they’ve done with the computer (silicon overlord) then they will be on their own! Until that point you’re basically fighting an engine of course! Thanks again for watching
The old adage of "there's nothing new under the sun" rings true........even in chess. Carlsen however seems to be making this "irregular opening" now "regular" and winning with it. But then again it's Carlsen playing it. Anyone remember British GM Tony Miles beating Karpov after answering his 1. e4 with 1...a6............it was said Karpov was not amused. Fischer would sometimes play 1. b4 in simuls.
I assume there is -- chess variants are endless and endlessly creative -- but is there a variant of classical chess where black's queen and king start on each other's squares? What would this be called? Rotation chess? Anyway, I'm curious -- there's a been a lot of recent interest in developing minimal deviations of classical chess in order to encourage creative out-of-book play. Take Kramnik's no-castling chess for example. But what would the quality of rotation chess (there's got to be a better name) be like? Placing a queen against the opponent's king has got to have some kind of effect. But would this game be more swashbuckling and romantic or more drawish?
Just incredible, that c4 move. And the rest. Great recap as always, love the mathematician joke, already taken by Vladimir (I saw what you did there 😂😂😅)
Misdirection by Carlsen and also by Epic Chess. Grischuk says "go ahead take the pawn on a5". Grischuk, as well as most the viewers of this video (myself included), misses the mate in one.
wow. rarely do you see a final check-mate move...most of the time the players agree that yah, "you have me in 4 moves or 3 moves"....but never do you actually get to see the check-mate played.
I love your channel because of your great analytical skills, your sense of humour and your overall splendid way of recapping chess games. Your channel deserves to grow to several million subs. Keep it up and you're bound to succeed. 👍
Magnus is just better which is why it just doesn’t faze me if his opponent did something spectacular and beat him I’d be thrilled that’s just me I know you love your Magnus Chess James but to me his winning is kind of predictable and expected kind of funny how he toyed with his opponent in this one even though his opposition was trying very hard to get something going Have a Great Day James Thanks for the Game
Really love ur vids mr epic chess! I used to get called the “plow king” but tht was due to my ability to clear the snow like Homer Simpson….and by snow I mean narcotics!
Please, explain what plow is one more time
oh just a joke name for the move pawn to h4 on move one! Carlen loves to plow that one down the board early doors haha
& he enjoys plowing(ploughing!) on both sides of the field.
It’s a perfect name. I hope it catches on in the chess community.
@@epicchess2021the first time I saw that opening I thought it was a joke. Boy was I wrong. Lol
“Magnus could be mathématicien although Vladimir has already taken that spot” hahahaha that was good 😊
Haha couldn’t resist…
Kramnik has made himself the butt of every chess joke 😂😂
Very interesting joke
Just after describing a 45° angle as a right angle
Interresting LOL@@epicchess2021

Thanks a lot on all points! Glad to hear so many are enjoying cuz I’m having great fun making these
These super GM games seem like pure wizardry to me sometimes. Both players are incredible.
The moves Magnus finds ARE difficult to spot - but if you look closer, they're almost so obvious. It's so beautiful to see how exploratory Magnus is by genuinely enjoying chess for all of its possibilities, not just its foundations.
" That queen now spraying in all directions..."
End-game checkmate from the end-game goat.
the deadpan delivery of the Batman’s car quip was amazing 😂 Excellent commentary as usual!!
I love the free association - “It’s like the front of Batman’s car or something.”
Haha thanks a lot glad you enjoyed

That was a brutal checkmate indeed.
This dude makes chess so riveting. Dang good show
Thanks a lot!
nasty M1 there. interesting how he got through that wooden shield with advantage even. probably a lesson there
Call Mr Plow. That's my name. That name again is Mr Plow
😆
Lol u beat me to it
Another amazing game by Magnus, and another awesome commentary! These daily Epic Chess videos are the first thing I watch. I know these must take some preparation, so thank you!
Thanks a lot!
Its still surprising for me that how MC can find moves or create plots within one or two seconds.
Feel the power of the plow!
I love the way Magnus is playing these ridiculous openings. Nobody would have done that in the old days.
Could someone explain why at 9:46 that the pawn isn't moved up to G4 to split the queen and Knight?

maybe Qh4+

Best chess channel at present, brilliant stuff.
I no longer skip your videos. Keep them coming
Hello, this is me Alexander Grischuck, a super GM with top rating of 2810
Magnus: toot toot, h4😂
Sounds like hes saying that to try and cope with the fact that he still hasnt beat me.
Magnus is playing chess the way the Harlem Globetrotters used to play basketball.
Call mr plow, thats my name, that name again, is mr plow LOL
😆
"although Vladimir has already taken that post..." 🤣.. sharp one
Haha couldn’t resist
Advanced Plow chess, what a match

Carlsen acting like he was the originator 1. h4. Got news for that youngster.

missing mate in one always hurts, no matter how good you are before it

Great game and commentary. When he plays the plow as white, I think "snow plow."
Thanks for the video. Your videos are really funny with full of wits. "MC should have been mathematician but Vladimir already took that place."
Plow is H4...Zamboni is A4..lol
I didn't like that the video was longer then 10 minutes.
8 minutes are optimal.
Just incredible, that c4 move. And the rest. Great recap as always, love the mathematician joke, already taken by Vladimir (I saw what you did there 😂😂😅)
😆
Advanced Plow, hahahaha.
Can’t wait for the King’s Plow Accepted.
Great commentary!
Again, great comments, I loved it.
Thanks a lot! Love your picture haha
Kh7 - Grischuk shuffling.
Not quite. Without this Qh8 is mate.
He must have forgotten this point a move or so later
Misdirection by Carlsen and also by Epic Chess.
Grischuk says "go ahead take the pawn on a5". Grischuk, as well as most the viewers of this video (myself included), misses the mate in one.
Haha sorry!
Did anyone else sing
"I'm Mr Plow, that's my name
That name again is Mr Plow"
or was it just me...
Crossed my mind haha
I saw somebody beat me to the punchline. Fair game. Ps love you content keep up the good work
what's your rating? are you actually good or do you just use computer to tell you the moves?
Mr. Plow? That’s his OnlyFans handle.
Lol I certainly wasn’t looking to take it in that direction…!
The Plow is actually known as the Desprez Opening or the Kadas Opening. I like The Plow better.
I view this game as... interesting.
wow. rarely do you see a final check-mate move...most of the time the players agree that yah, "you have me in 4 moves or 3 moves"....but never do you actually get to see the check-mate played.
If magnus used the plow in 90 min games I dont think he would do as well lol
Mr Plow- great simpsons episode reference )
What an amazing game made better by your commentary!
I love your channel because of your great analytical skills, your sense of humour and your overall splendid way of recapping chess games.
Your channel deserves to grow to several million subs. Keep it up and you're bound to succeed. 👍
Thanks a lot!
Some math fanatics would tell you that statistics are not real math
Probably he would win with the most chess players having 2 sec limit for a move...
Great game, and great commentary.
Magnus "Plow" Carlsen
Mr Plow lmao
Pawn h4
That's my game
That game again
Is called The Plow
The goat🐐 free in a field of lambs.
LOL the sly comments by Epic Chess are epic. Vlad becoming a mathematician due to the right triangle wooden shield neologism!
Haha couldn’t resist
Magnus is just proving he is the best chess player and these AI reliant nerd's cant hang.
Yeah! Although I don't know if I would have worded it quite so harshly lol
Mf world champs gettin PLOWED😂😂😂. Bruh you aint right.
That British accent is unbearable
Really love ur vids mr epic chess! I used to get called the “plow king” but tht was due to my ability to clear the snow like Homer Simpson….and by snow I mean narcotics!
