yea i didnt even grow up with the game and only play it now i'm an adult, watched my dad play it a lot. it's the best fps game ever for sure, i'm jealous of you guys that got to experience this game in its glory.
Just picked this up again after a decade or so off and it's still second nature. And I'm marvelling over the weapon balance - it's one of the few competitive FPS where each weapon's actually got a roughly even DPS but a totally different playstyle and situational utility to all the others. Weapon selection is the whole knack.
Amazing run! I hate it when people speedrun games on the lowest difficulty because it's so boring, so thank you for doing this on Godlike. This run was very entertaining and your skills are off the charts! With a sniper rifle you're a headshotting machine and you basically turned UT into a point-and-click adventure.
Still hoping that one day you will try again for a new WR. This run is so *amazing* that I come back to rewatch it about once or rarely twice a year and it still impresses me. Never gets boring. Just finished it for the 5th time.

Record post-commentary of someone else's Godlike speedrun OR 0-death run (yes, there are a couple of these on YT) 2. Record a tutorial on how to setup and configure vanilla UT99 for Godlike speedrun (I'm saying vanilla bc community patch from OldUnreal is destroying the performance for me, causing absolute slideshow on my Phenom2, while my Celeron-300 back in the day was handling UT99 like a piece of cake). Maybe your take on CPUSPEED parameter, as part of the guide ? Textures quality, fov, resolution, mouse, sound and video renderers - stuff like this. P.S. Anyway, you're a legend, mate, one of the few poineers in this tough as nails category, along with Lobo and Tokyo.

I've played this game extensively, it's an absolute delight to see a speedrun played at this level, so congrats ! Although i'm used to GOTY, was a bit disapointed to not see this stupid HYDRO CTF map since it's a nightmare.
+gabam If you can't get it working or have a non-steam version of UT, Kentie's D3D 10 renderer fixes most of the the problems with the game and makes it run well on modern systems. It also works for most other Unreal Engine games like Deus Ex and the orginal Unreal. Just google Kentie.net and you'll find it.

Glad you had fun coming back, even though the community is much smaller than it used to be, in mods like Monster Hunt there's still content being developed to this day although rarely/sporadically, it's still a great game to pick up and play with friends. I don't know if I'll ever run this game again but I won't fully rule it out, I wanted to eventually get a sub 2:30 but for all I know it's years down the line until I try at it again. Good going! I always found Overlord the most difficult level by far on Godlike, but I didn't know about your little trick! I had to keep trying until I hit 3 or 4 headshots in a row to make that final part.

Highest difficulty I ever consistently played at was “Insane”, and that was on the practice mode where the bots are easier. The bots in the tournament start at the base skill level and get harder from there. Seeing the whole tournament beaten on Godlike is just crazy.

Does anyone know how to turn off the Red Screen effect when you take damage, as well as the shake effect when you get shot at? It is not in preferences , options tab.
There's 2 ways of doing this, you either open up your console in-game, type in 'preferences', advanced options should pop-up, go to 'Display' and turn 'ScreenFlashes' to False. Or you can open up your User.ini file located on your UT/System folder, then look for 'bNoFlash=False' and switch to True.
You do really see the bots shoting at a translocator - sometimes You can actually see one bot doing it - like rare same with some unusual botbehavior like bots headshotting you with chainsaw , bot flying a strangelove ( have a video on it ) , bots trying to use alt-redeemer fire ( redeemer flies in a arc ) , bot following you like a pet ( through weaponfeed ) , bot frags you with translocator intentionally , bot in conflict ( aggression has minusvalue ).
This was the game that made me a good FPS player. The hours I spent back in the day, I love this game. I played it two weeks ago hoping for a quick session and found myself still playing it for two hours

In all my years of playing UT, I never figured out how to kill with the translocator, I know the idea behind it, just didn't know it was such a timing thing.
@@Planetdune Everytime I've shot it into someone and right clicked, it did the "unable to place player" beep and retracted the disc, but I didn't think to use it to translocate just before it physically entered another player, which is my point, you smart-ass. xD

Guess we lost the race to all the screamers, who instead of learning to play these great games kept shouting "campers", "cheaters" and what not, until game devs corelated that to sale numbers and kept dumbing down games to what we have nowadays. Fair to say that Unreal Tournament series and Quake series were the best games to this day, the question stands - will we see another great game in indefinite future. I remember thinking "man, can you imagine how great games are going to be in 2014 or 2020, how advanced they'll be", back in 2001-2004...Because I was surrounded by these polished great games for what they were. Back in the early 2000s remember playing bot matches on godlike just to get practice in to keep the skills sharp, but still people playing online made bots in godlike seem like easy mode. There's no way I'd be able to keep up with the bots being set to godlike today.
Dude this video was so entertaining and fun.. I've not beaten a godlike tournament in a long time so after I watched this I decided to do it again and see how fast can I do it, I have the GOTY version too so it took me nearly 6 hours and it probably can be done in a time that's a lot faster than mine but.. I remember the last time I did it it took actual days and it was so hard, but that was the first time I ever completed the game in one session, so I'm proud of myself :P It was so much fun doing some of your strategies that I remembered during the tournament and I discovered some on my own too although not much really, I would say now that I actually managed to do that I think I'm good at the game but not great, maybe because I was playing in 1920x1080? Since I also play bunnytrack too and I have never actually tried changing the resolution, I kept hearing that there's no fix for the crosshair and stuff but I have actually never tried changing the resolution, should probably get over that fact and get used to it again like I was back in the time. One thing that I'm going to say right now is that hydro is actually the second worst map next to overlord (at least that's what I think) It's so horrible, the fact that the bases are so big and you have two exits so you don't know where your enemies are coming is very scary, also the big two bridges in the middle are so annoying too because you can get sniped AFTER you manage to escape the base, even if you kill the enemies behind you, there could be enemies on the other side because it has two bridges. By the way are you gonna speed run the game again sometime or at least stream it or something? I know you replied to some other comments but so much time has passed that I feel like now I want to ask you again, this video was so good and funny too that I actually come back to it because that's what good videos do, it seems that you have been very busy and stuff but can you at least try to do it once more? This time the goty edition too ;) I would love to see how will you actually do hydro because that map sucks so hard, Anyway, thank you for everything!
Is it possible to jump straight to the gun cavern in the AS-Overlord using the hammer trick? It's sure possible with translocator, but the hammer trick I never really mastered.
you don't ever get high enough with a normal hammerjump without other players' help, the only way to skip boiler is with a mortar jump (seen here th-cam.com/video/qxaBAxmeOS0/w-d-xo.html ), but it's pure RNG to survive the mortar, roughtly .1% chance
