That was me opening my Dell Inspiron laptop 15 (yknow the ones that are huge with its own built in DVD/CD player/burner) I not only lost the dam screw I also stripped one in the process 😅😂

I worded the 5G section weird saying they only charge by FireWire. I meant they can’t sync over firewire, charge only. They do everything via USB tho!

Been 9 months but glad to say that I dun did it! I bought a mini...first gen...and bought a 128GB SD card to flashmod. (Bought a firstgen cuz they were cheaper and 128GB is still good), so...well there ya go
i have never owned any until they were basically goin out of style. now I have and owned almost all of them!
And if you replace the battery be VERY CAREFUL when disconnecting the old one and connecting the new! The contacts are super fragile. I recommend a magnifying glass and fine forceps. TAKE YOUR TIME.

Your videos inspired me to fix my 5th gen. I used this video in particular to learn how to do it. After a decade of being broken my 5th gen works again! I replaced the smashed screen and put in a new battery.
I run a little iPod repair business and this is a treat to watch. Upgraded a 7th gen with an iFlash board and got a water damaged 7th gen and perfectly working 5th gen in return
is there a better way to open them? I have one with a dead battery and that's been dropped hundreds of times so something is rattling inside.

Love the things, so glad people are starting to recognise the beauty of iPod, this channel’s done so much good, even if it might be bumping up the prices of iPods a little, that’s okay, because so many people are discovering their beauty, how fun it is to fuck around with them, modding them for good reasons, modding them for a giggle, and most importantly, restoring ones that would have just been thrown away by some people.

I just resurrected my 4th gen U2 pod, so cheers! It’s been broken for nearly ten years now, and was too scared to try fixing it but I saw this video and gave it a go. Replaced the batt, it works great again!
I legit have watched this vid like 5 times since it came out and I don't even own an iPod. This should go to show just how awesome of an entertainer and youtuber you are. Even a tutorial video from you is entertaining enough to warrant replay's even if the tutorial has nothing I actually need. Love ya and keep up your awesome work!

If you forget your iPod password, Here is a simple way to get it COMPUTER NEEDED
1. Get your charged iPod
2.Plug it into your computer (it can be any including chrome os)
3. Open files and go to *your name* IPOD.
4. Enable ‘Show Hidden Files’
5. Search or go to the file called ‘_locked’ and rename it to _unlocked
This will disable the password

There is a program called Retroactive that lets you install iTunes onto mac os Catalina, I have it running the oldest version it would let me and it works like a dream

My childhood "iPod" was an RCA Lyra from 2005 but it worked great, buttons were all on the sides and they were recessed which meant I almost never touched the hold switch. Screen was tiny as heck though, 128x64 character LCD was impossible to read
Bought my first iPod ever 4 moths ago. It was sad and broken. Restored it myself using DankPods video as a guide. Since that I use it everyday for music and audiobooks. Doesn't drain mobile battery, nice sound, no annying "ding ding" notifications for every fcking message. Definitely worth it.

This video helped me fix my iPOD Mini from 2004! I listened to it in my car on my way home from work today, and it was on a real low battery and that battery eventually died. Honestly though, the battery on this iPod isn't the best, and it doesn't last all that long. About a few hours. When I got home I plugged it into the wall, and two hours later... nothing. Not a thing. I was 100% sure that the battery was toast. I tried unplugging it, re -plugging it in, trying different charging cables that are Apple branded, pressing all the buttons, holding thhe middle button and swithing the "HOLD" switch back and forth, but still nothing. I was facing the harsh reality that I'll never be able to listen to my iPOD Mini again. That was until i found this video! Your video helped me out and I"m so greatful! This video helped me realize that I had tried everything I could think of EXCEPT a hard reset. And sure enough that did the trick! My iPod is currently charging. So thank you DankPods! I'm a big fan of your channel, I'm subscribed ,and enjoy the content you put out. Thank you for making it to where I don't have to buy a new iPOD Mini yet!

Long story short:
It's the seemingly throwaway "more juice to power it up" line that saved my hide with a clicking iPod.
Short story long:
I plugged in my bottom-of-the-junk-drawer 5th-gen iPod and heard a click. Most every online post went straight for the HD replace.
Watched the first bit of the video that talked about the firewire charger and it simply needing more juice up front.
Figured, what the heck, can't hurt. Found USB innie to USB-C outie converter, plugged the whole kit and kaboodle into a MagSafe brick from my MacBook Pro and SWEET MANNA FROM HEAVEN IT TURNED ON WITH ZERO COMPLAINTS!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏💫❤❤❤ Thank you @DankPods !!!

I've watched this guide dozens of times despite not having an ipod... but I'm ready. found a 6th gen for $38 and a 2008 macbook for $58, and I'm getting a flashkit with a 128gb card. It's gonna be trouble but I'm all here for it, gonna stream the whole thing once all the tools and parts arrive and once it's done, it'll be my daily driver (and once I get more money I'll do a case and clickwheel swap too for a black+purple ipod) thanks for introducing me to the idea that I could even do this, I haven't been this excited to do something in years. sure it set me back like $170 which is a lot for me since I don't come into money much, but this...this is worth it ^-^

I just bought a 4th gen, nice condition, reasonable price, the thing that surprised me was that it came with the Firewire charger! (An apple one) and even the og cable that splits the 30 pin connector to Firewire and usb!

3G requires the double dong cable with a USB and a FireWire plug to the dock connector to do a flash upgrade/restore. Most upgrade videos do not mention this. Also, limited to 128GB because PATA Limitations at the time.

As a person who gets sad because I finish your newest video since they're usually pretty short, this is a dream come true.
For the 6th 7th gen, use one of those blue plastic spudgers. Position the edge inside the charging port towards the front of the case. You then could push the metal casing up and start and begin inserting the other flat prying tools around the seams.
In this video, there were a bunch of topics that you wanted to make future videos on. One of them was part compatibility with the 5th and 6th/7th gens. It would be awesome if you went back and made the videos mentioned in this one sometime. Love the channel!

A good cheep way to find ipods is sites like Facebook marketplace or buy broken ones and repair them.
E yeah EBay has caught up with DankPods’ influence but I don’t think Facebook Marketplace or Amazon have.

Man, these things are fascinating, especially the first ones with the tiny HDD. The fact that they sold 10gb iPods back when having 1gb mp3 players was a luxury, is quite amazing.
Had a 4th Gen in the dark corners of a closet, plugged in USB power, Apple logo, HDD click. Put it back in closet for years. Went back to it today after watching this amazing vid. Same HDD click. Shook it gently a few times since I heard that might help, then pulled out the Firewire guns and BOOM. Holy crap it's charging, and working! Gonna back up the music if I can, then follow your other video on Flash modding this thing. YOU. ROCK. Huge thanks!!!
