Hey, I haven’t found anyone covering vertical rate fights in a DCS guide and wondered if you could do so. They’re a bit different due to gravity constantly changing your speed and thus I struggle a lot with them, thanks👍

That would be its own video for sure, but the short answer is the following: any time both you and an adversary decide to get into a zoom climb whoever loses speed and has to nose over first loses the fight. So even if you one of you has a thrust-to-weight advantage its mostly going to be whoever goes into the climbing race with the most speed that will get an advantage.

I've been learning a lot from your videos! Perhaps this is going back in time so to speak, but got anything on boom and zoom tactics for the WW2 side? I often find tutorials on circular fights, but hardly anything on vertical/energy fights for fighters that don't turn well.

Since this question comes up fairly regularly I will have to make a video on it. But the short answer is that you only go vertical when someone has a speed advantage. Whoever runs out of speed first loses the fight. Note: Its not just T/W but speed, so even a low T/W fighter that just came out of a dive could win.
The reason boom-and-zoom was more popular in WW2 was that there wasn't a penalty for that tactic. If you had enough speed and got out of guns range then you were free and clear. That's kinda hard to do now when during the "zoom" you have your tailpipe exposed to a heatseeker that goes faster than you.
When two fighters are very close in speed and performance then there is no point to climbing. It's better to take advantage of turn rate or radius (whichever is stronger). That's why there is so much talk about those topics right now.
Hopefully, that answers your question (at least until I can make a video about it).
