Ima be honest, I'm watching this for DCS. But, I always had my timing off as to when to reverse the turn safely, now I kinda understand how to use the reversal better. In DCS I've always heard reversing infront of their nose is a death sentence (And it is), so I just never really used it unless forced.
Ideally you want to reverse when your bandit is pulling lead. Depending on his closure, you may or may not be succesful in doing so. Remember that your reversal is you basically trying to pull the bandit into a one-circle fight, so theoretically and potentially any angle of attack switch that breaks their lead enough and lets you offset the pursuit curve at the same time, is a good reversal.
Correction: (6:40) The ammo rounds that you can actually see are called 'tracer' rounds. They are built with a pyrotechnic device that burns white hot in their base to help the shooter see where the rounds are going. This dramatically helps the shooter to aim the gun. It also helps the target aircraft to detect and avoid the shooters attack solution.
whats really cool is how games like war thunder or dcs will drill these concepts into by trial and error. i know absolutely nothing about dog fighting but all of these things i learned through just playing wt. its amazing! great information by the way, really helps me understand what ive been doing better!
Think of it like this. You have a 90 degree angle which starts at the tail and extends backwards. Your planes angle from the tail of the plane is the aspecs, so if you are at 45 degrees on that attack course then you aspect is 45 degrees. Your aspect rises and falls based on your potition on that 90 degree angle. Dogfighting is a lot of geometry and a lot of angles.
As a mechanical engineering student, it was way easier to calculate torpedo courses in UBOAT, then trying to learn how to dogfight in war thunder, but this helps a lot gonna check out more.
@@gergocsanadi4770 calm down man... I was just saying that it s nearly impossible to do dogfight on an arcade game where everybody goes full afterburner and full cannon all the time...
Thank you for the clear and concise information. It would be great if you get into DCS with another player and make videos about dogfighting the different aircraft and demonstrating the theory
Watch the latest Part 2 video on BFM. I have included more in depth concepts that should be helpful regarding energy management. I hope the new video has a few more nuggets that you will find helpful.
Can't remember where they came from....had them for about 7 years. The key is not to get too large of models. These have about a 6" wing span. 1/72 scale should be correct. Enjoy!
I dunno, guys. Mike's not sporting an epic fighter pilot 'stache, so I have to question is teachings! Pete Bonanni would like to have a word with you about that, Mike.
Well what you tried to say there about light up bullets those are tracer rounds, and those are due the pyrotechnic compound/composition that is ignited by the burning powder and burns quite bright, making round trajectory visible, so here is part that you missed badly, hope it helps pall! Cheers 👋🏻

I was a IP there. Took the president of Fighting Falcon 1.0 up at Mirramar should him the concept of Vislay Padlock. That concept made FF 3.0 #1 selling program of 91. Should not have given him the tape. 😢
Great video, Looking forward to using this in war thunder
Thanks Mike! Just getting into combat flight sims and these lessons are immediately valuable. Lots to practice!

@@noyrz Yeah I’ve learned reversals now, thanks though.

Dont worry about the keyboard wariors, you explained the subject very well in an un edited video which is rare these days. Thank you sir
Guy doesn’t know what a “tracer” is. Not convincing.
Depends, on which Chems, you load

Man this video ia great.
The infinitely small circle concept in the vertical blew my mind. Thank you.
More please!
My pleasure. Enjoy Part 2. It's coming out soon!
The latest video should answer a few more questions...or entertain you for a few minutes! Thanks for watching!
You are a Good Instructor! It is Hard to explain things When Things Happen. It Would be Fun to Fly W/ You!
Thanks! Pilots View, No Rules,Just Win!
This is an amazing video! Very helpful and informative, I appreciate you sir!
Thank you so much. Glad to help!
Thank you so much for the feedback! Check out the new Part 2 of BFM and let me know what you think.
@@aircombatusa awesome, I’ll start watching it now!
Thanks for a great video the only thing I can add is the bullets you can see are called tracer rounds.
Amazing; you're awesome instructor.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I am happy to help you guys get more wins in the game of air combat!

warthunder is an arcade game. If you really want to learn something you need DCS and only DCS.
@@PaddyMcQueen Yeah okay buddy, so you gonna lend me money for the game and a sim rig?? No, so I'm sticking to war thunder.

You should talk about « energy managing »: altitude/speed
Reality is more complex
Thanks anyway
That is why this is BFM, the other stuff is more advanced

I don’t think he was in the military, or ever fired on an actual target so he wouldn’t be too familiar with ordnance.
Thanks Mike, we'll presented help me a lot as I'm going to get into VR war plans 🎉
My pleasure! Check out BFM Part 2 and let me know what you think. I appreciate the feedback.
Where can I purchase the two airplanes that you are using in this video?
you can made your own models by Revell or Airfix or some similar model factory but there are metal cast models also that are finished

Calling bullshit. Spitfires don't fight Mustangs.
