With reports of recent B&M coasters being rougher than the older ones is it possible the new ones have larger variances in track gauge than in the past?
@@ryantheridemechanic There’s the rub there’s only been a few like data points. Nemesis at Alton Towers had nearly 100% of its track remanufactured and replaced - the new track is significantly rougher than the old. But the last NEW invert was Monster - which had a rattle from day one but nothing like Nemsis’ new track. The last hyper build was Candymonium and it’s fine. The last giga was Orion and it’s also fine. The newest wing coaster seems to have more of a rattle than the older ones, which is odd because it’s a family coaster. There also seems to be a rattle to the narrower dive coaster model which has a smaller track gauge than the original larger models and pretty much all of those have more rattle than the big ones. It’s entirely possible that there are multiple root causes. For the new wings the train and track design should be the same as the old ones, perhaps there was just a bad install job rather than a slip in manufacturing quality. Hard to know without seeing some data. For the narrower dives it could be train design in concert with track gauge that just creates a really ripe environment for hunting - IMO that’s the type of thing old B&M would have avoided or fixed quickly after the prototype is built so there might be something to the idea they’ve lost a step there. Sea World has opened two prototypes in 3 years with B&M and the new surf standup is fine, but the family sit down prototype has a pretty shocking rattle in it - I’m going to assume for that one the train alone would be responsible. I guess what I’m saying is rattle for a B&M used to be the exception to the rule, but it’s gotten to be the inverse in the last handful of years with only a few that have that typical old school smoothness they were known for.
@@Danrarbc hmmmm. I wonder who’s making their rails. Rail fabrication used to be the closest guarded secret in the industry. Now they just come out of a CNC bender. Maybe their tolerance has slid as well. Or maybe the tighter tolerance is an upgrade during purchasing?

@@ryantheridemechanic I know Iron Gwazi at my home park has class 5 restraints, I feel like Mako at my other home park would have class 5 restraints too.
A quick way to tell if it's considered class 5 is if ops has to close the restraint like in an RMC hybrid. Any other class you can pull your own down. However, a good example of a class 5 that probably could be a lower class is Millennium Force. Its air time is all floater. Even with a belt that could have been tighter and a gentle kiss of the lap bar, and last row (please don't ride it like this). I ended really only giving the belt a workout. Unlike nearby Steel Vengeance, where you literally hang upside down on the lap restraint.
@@LTCoasters in ours, ops had to close the restraint to observe the seat belt we installed. Some are that way due to the logic timing in the restrains monitored position as well. (If they lock the car and the restraint is down the plc can’t see it cycle so it won’t register closed)
@ryantheridemechanic makes sense for that ride as it did not originally have belts. It still stands in my experience that the air time limiter (seatbelt) gets the work out as I hardly ever raise high enough to hit the lap bar while large sections of track I'm hovering out of the seat.
Yep, B&M fan girl here. They seem to have the most reliable machines from day one. Just imagine that B&M won the contract. Top Thrill 2 would be running again. Heck, it probably would have never gone down longer than a maintenance check.
@@LTCoasters B&M wouldn’t typically mess around with a different track design for a one-off project. They’d have wanted to replace 100% of the track which would have driven the cost of the project up
@Danrarbc Yep, which is why it would work. My whole point is they wouldn't have put out a ride that had whatever the problem is. They would have gone out of their way to make sure it would work before even sending the track specs to Clermont for fabrication. I am just wondering what everyone's reaction will be when we finally find out what the Zamperla fix is.
@@LTCoasters It doesn’t appear to be a track issue on TT2. Yeah they’re looking at thing here or there but it is the trains getting the full attention.
@Danrarbc very true, but maybe not understanding the track is what caused the issue in the first place. After all it's cheaper to change things on a train than track.
YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU INCREASE THE CRUSH ON THE GUIDE WHEELS AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE TRACK TO DECREASE HUNTING. I NOTICED THAT ON THE LAUNCH TRACK OF KINGDA KA, THERES A LOT OF SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT AS THE TRAIN INCREASES SPEED. BASED ON FOOTAGE THAT YOU HAVE SEEN OF THAT RIDE, WOULD YOU CONSIDER THAT TOO MUCH MOVEMENT OR WITHIN A SAFE/ACCEPTABLE LIMIT?
@@haqqrasheed3115 the side to side on that ride I feel is developed by the hunting in the launch sled. This is a function of cable tension. So the train itself is perfectly fine in that respect. It’s just the design of the track. Might be better if the vertical supports were turned into triangle supports with a kicker leg.
The distance between the guide wheels is less than the distance between the rails. This also applies to old Vekomas and Arrows. Too bad that their guide wheels run inside the track. 🤣
@@Colaholiker maybe we are talking about 2 different things. I’m talking guide wheel clearance 2mm each side 4mm total. Upstop was about 4mm as well. If they got past about 5mm (1/4in) really couldn’t operate the train.

@@ryantheridemechanicthe one in the vid is a huss, huss only ever made the solid axel (i think thats the best way to describe it) top spins. kmg, mondial, vekoma (rip wipeout), zamperla and i think moser all made/make top spin models where the arms can move independently.

@@3dprinterguy393 nope
With reports of recent B&M coasters being rougher than the older ones is it possible the new ones have larger variances in track gauge than in the past?
@@Danrarbc could be. But are coaster being compared evenly? Same track layout with urethane wheels?
@@ryantheridemechanic I believe B&M only works with Clermont Steel Fabricators.
@@Danrarbc so I heard may years ago that they would fabricate the supports and backbones, but the running rails used to be shipped in a container from Switzerland or somewhere around there. I think theses days the entire process is done and Clairmont Steel but can’t back that up
Talocan is still closed 😢 In your opinion do you think they'll have it open for 5th September when I go? How difficult are these motors to replace?

@@merlin2k6 the wobble will almost instantly stop the spin so it couldn’t go far.
What's your honest opinion about TT2?? We're at a month since the last park statement. No trains have ran any tests in going on 3wks now. The only new activity is CP hired a construction company who were working on the switch track.Could be something, could be nothing. I think there is a much bigger issue at hand other than wheels, the park either doesn't know how to fix it(quickly) or they had to replace the trains as a whole. They have had the seats off the silver train atleast 3 separate times. What say you??
@@garywillis7253 with this much time passing I’m thinking they might be into total vehicle replacement. Can’t be so sure based off of time as things are taking a ridiculous amount of time these days.
@@ryantheridemechanic The lightning trains on paper are a great idea but when I heard they were machined out of a chunk of solid billet which raised concerns. Some parts of the chassis had to be machines thin so other components can fit in the area.I wonder if this could be a issue, stress cracks/fatigue in parts of the chassis..Could be talking out my ass but I'm just thinking what could possibly be going on. Thanks for your input
@@garywillis7253 anything is possible. But the area of focus seems to be the bottom of the train not the top. Just what i see. Who knows what’s happening behind closed doors.

do B&M hypers have class 3 restraints!?!?!?!? i thought they were class 5 for a major coaster
@@owen24165 you can have very large coasters with lower restraints. Not sure on the actual rating of their restraints.
B&M's bid for TT2 was to completely replace the coaster, e.g. with a hyper. Yes it would be reliable...
@Danrarbc very true, but maybe not understanding the track is what caused the issue in the first place. After all it's cheaper to change things on a train than track.
What do you think is wrong with Steel Curtain?
@@goonch7956 honestly no clue there. Sounds like the structure is having trouble but no real signs of repair. So can’t really speculate at all
YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU INCREASE THE CRUSH ON THE GUIDE WHEELS AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE TRACK TO DECREASE HUNTING.
@@Colaholiker yea the SLC required 2mm air gap
@@ryantheridemechanic Another American who doesn't handle metric well. It's actually 2 centimeters... 😆
@@Colaholiker maybe we are talking about 2 different things. I’m talking guide wheel clearance 2mm each side 4mm total. Upstop was about 4mm as well. If they got past about 5mm (1/4in) really couldn’t operate the train.
@@ryantheridemechanic I was just joking about two things - one being the struggle a lot of Americans have with the metric system 😅 and the other is the fact that SLCs always feel like they just roughly follow the track and have a ton of play there. 😵💫
(I recently rode a new Suspended Thrill Coaster made by Vekoma and that's a huge difference! Both in how well they run and in the restraints, which are Basically top hinged lap cushions)
