    Love the constant Johnnie Walker Black comments in relation to JD-- have to say that Jack Daniels and Coke were a match made in heaven. Perfect bite. Perfect sweetness. No ethanol or bitterness. It's smooth as can be and is ideal for beginners into whiskey. Still love it to this day if I need a mixer!!

    I enjoy 2 or 3 high quality whiskies on ice and if I want any more than that, I prefer a cheaper whisky with Coke. I find that 45% is ideal, so Crown Royal Rye @45% works much better. As well as Jim Beam Devil’s Cut (also 45%) over Jack Daniel's. That's just me, I never was a Jack fan like neither of us are Johnny Walker fans. When I skip over the pond for something tasty to put in my Coke, it's Bushmills Black Bush. Even though it is only 40%, the sherry casks comes through to work perfectly with the Coke.
    I don't waste (really) good whisk(e)y mixing either, but you CAN spend an extra few bucks to take it a step up from the regular offerings and you will taste it in the glass.
    Of course I'm less or 2 to 1 mixer and a little closer to a 50/50 probably like 45/55.
    Cheers!
    It would be cool if you revisited this again with some viewer revisions or even did a ginger ale version. 👌🏼

    Drank jack and coke for years before I "knew better". I just knew I didn't like shots and sure as hell didn't go for tequila so jack was a good intro to whiskey. I usually drink redbreast or green spot nowadays but still go back for a good old Lemmy at the bar

      The JD Old No. 7 was my favorite out of the three but it also seems intensely sweet. When I put Crown Royal in coke I generally only put a splash (just enough to add flavor without becoming a full cocktail) which is far less than I added in this video.

    Less than 10 years ago, maybe 5-6 years ago, all these were considered top shelf by consumers. To 99% plus of the population they still are. I own 2 bars and have never had anyone order a scotch and coke. Maybe it's happened but I never served one. Generally I find older folks 40 plus order Jack/coke while the 40 under crowd drinks Jim Beam/coke.

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there may be a difference between home (and party) consumption vs. bar consumption also between the UK and USA consumption. They probably tend more towards Johnny Walker Red in cocktails than Jack Daniels. But, I don't have any statistics to back that up.

    • @gregwilde1119
      @gregwilde1119 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies Yeah and there is definitely regional differences and even differences in the states within that region. I throw quite a few parties throughout the year and basically the spirits that go the fastest are Vodka and Capt Morgan spiced rum. Tequila will go fast only if a margarita mix is provided in quantity. The other spirits hardly get consumed unless the party is cocktail centric and not strictly self serve. For that reason I've moved to making specific cocktails for each party as I get tired of buying so much Vodka and Spiced Rum as I never drink the stuff except in cocktails.
      The age groups for these parties early 20s to 70. The one thing that is consistent is that people interested in the "good stuff" do not limit themselves. They will drink almost anything if it is either considered or actually is a quality product or something they just like. Wine beer spirits of all kinds, does not matter. However, most people drink the same things consistently and don't divert from routine.
      The above comments are for spirits drinkers as beer and wine are unquestionably consumed more and are general in nature.
      I'm in the upper Midwest and split my time between Chicago and Milwaukee.

      TL Travel thanks... funny... when I first posted this video it didn’t do well but it later picked up a lot of momentum. Probably due to timing I suppose. So, you can’t always Judge the quality of your own video based on the immediate response. It’s similar to some movies that bomb in the theater and get bad reviews but later become a classic, such as The Christmas Story. Since I recorded this video I’ve moved and grown a beard but the style of the videos are still 100% me. I’m almost always watching the Nimmin Brothers live-streams so you’ll see me in the chat.

    I have to laugh, growing up I got such grief drinking Crown Royal as it was"top shelf" as everyone drinking whiskey was drinking Seagrams, Canadian Mist, etc. There is a good reason Jack sells so much and is so popular. Jack and Coke is one of those reasons IMHO. I remember those days Coke did all this blind tasting and most folks overwhelmingly were preferring the new Coke formula, but Coke underestimated brand loyalty. Corn Syrup ugh. World's greatest conspiracy. It has driven America policy on so many levels, and the Corn Lobby is one of the most powerful in America.
