  • Dr. Miles Mettler initially thought that his job was to instruct his children - but he realized that he needed to take ownership of his own mistakes before expecting his kids to abide by his expectations. So he learned to ask his children for feedback on how he was doing as a parent. He also recognized the importance of looking for the good his kids were doing, rather than focusing on the negatives. Miles recommends parents “ask for permission” to talk to their kids - rather than barging in and interrupting what they’re doing. That models respect and how parents want their kids to approach them. Miles also suggests parents think intentionally about not saying “no” to every request for their child. Overall, Miles’ objective is to help parents build trust their children.

The parent report card is the greatest idea ever. I think it takes a lot of courage but it models maturity, self reflection and willingness to change for the ones we love.
As a mother of 4 under 11 I’ve learned a very important lesson. Kids don’t do what we SAY, they do what we DO.
Great talk gentlemen, I’m buying this book today!

Great points..so starts with the parent being secure about their worth and relationship with Yeshua/Jesus, learning to be gracious and forgiving to self...to love oneself in order to model that to the kids.

Take them out of school. State school and even some Christian schools are teaching your children to not have faith in the Scriptures.

I'm not sure what you mean by a high achiever. I believe someone who seems quite happy and full of life working at a 7-Eleven in my opinion is a high achiever. Sadly I've been through all walks of life and noticed that some of the best people on the planet tend to be people making minimum wage.

I think you might have taken it out of context. He is referring to parents who are career driven and super invested in their work and other areas of their lives
