Well, League SoloQ is vastly different from its professional counterpart. In Professional League, you play the game with 4 competent teammates with a strategy in mind. In League SoloQ, you hope that your teammates won't just run it down mid and ruin your game just because they died once in lane.
That was honestly my tell back in high school as to who actually played it. "Oh you play league too??" "yea man I play it all the time, I fucking hate it, trash game." Next thing you know its 8 pm and you guys are raging together in the rift. Truly a beautiful game.

Once you manage to find a clique, it really turns into an irreplaceable experience to many, because no other game really evokes the same feelings that LoL does, you get the extremities of every emotion there are. Even for me, 7 years later, League by myself is miserable, but I still play it because of both time investment and I know it's the place where everyone will always return. The thing about LoL, and you'll hear it from many players, you can never quit it once you really, and I mean REALLY, experience it, even if you quit it for a year you will come crawling back eventually. So I know that if I keep polishing myself in LoL, I can reconnect with my friends, and they know it too, and many others know this as well. And yes, it always proves true, even if sometimes 1 of them goes MIA for 2 years or some shit, he ends back up in League to get add blasted as Jhin.
When my Friends catch me raging they say "mad cos bad" but then they watch the damn game and I'm the only fucking competent one and my teammates just run to the enemies and die and come back again and die then I say "I'm not fucking mad I lost I'm mad because My team sucked dick at the game and I'm the only one doing the carrying"
I love how Connor's highlights are always 10 to 15 minutes long. It shows some good and fun discussion is going on, or another of his incredible stories.

2:06 Same with Wildrift. I play Wildrift in Asia server and there's a lot of trolls who intentionally feed or who don't adjust to the roles and play whoever they want and still suck. It's especially bad when you play at midnight for some reason. I hope Riot fixes this problem and bans those troll accounts. Lost so many rank games because of it and you'll definitely notice a pattern. Idk if it's intentional or they get paid.

When Quarantine hit and I had no viable means of playing League, I just gradually stopped being addicted to the game. Even before that because of college I rarely played a game. Even with all the money and time I had sunk into the game, I find myself struggling to actually play the game again because so many things have changed that I don't even feel like it's the same game anymore and I am too busy to learn the new champions and new items and every other change they make. Maybe in the future I'll come back to league but with the things they are right now I doubt that it's going to be anytime soon. Plus I am pre-occupied with other games like Genshin.

Funnily enough the FGC is one of the most welcoming communities I've ever been into even though fighting games by nature are the most competitive medium there's is since it's pure 1v1 skill based competition without variables outside of online play. The moba community in general is extra toxic by default , I know what Connor is going through because I had the same addiction with Dota 2 before getting into fighting games. I feel like it really boils down to what you're looking for in a more challenging game, what made me "get clean" from mobas was the team aspect per se. Fighting games reward and punish only you, there's no one to blame or no variables , it's a brutal realization of how much you suck at the game and where/how to improve. tl;dr: If you're tired of team based games but can't really quit, try fighting games and try getting good at it if you find one that suites your palate, if not just quit mobas it's a shit roulette everytime.
I think its cause fighting games are a solo thing. If you suck at it,only you will lose. But mobas are team based so you can have the best game ever and still lose cause one guy threw it up in the end.Hence,people really act toxic towards learners aswell. Its a team game. Plus the high stake ranked matches really increase the toxicity to a million cause people don't wanna lose(most are already in lose streaks). But I will say from the videos I've seen,FGC looks like the most hype gaming community out there.

i have played league since 2012. and even though i've had my rough patches with the players i will never hate the game itself. i love the game. i just can't stand the people at times. and i know that's like completely unavoidable and maybe a bit hypocritical but i do honestly truly love the game even if the people are insufferable.
dont know guys Ive been playing league for years - since gp rework around season 6 I think and its my main on and off game I play actively for 2 months then 1 I dont play at all. Its a lot of fun I always play new champs with friends troll a bit and its cool.
The thing about league is that it's so unforgiving but it can be so much fun and rewarding. There are so many op tools and mechanics that its nerve-wracking. I stopped tilting after I accepted how the game works and decided to play around all of it and actually started climbing.

I almost agree with Garnt but with a slight deviation. Competitive games are actually most fun when you first get good enough to play ranked and you're in that first period of growth and climb. The feeling of progression and learning is so addictive and once you hit that wall, you end up trying to optimize to chase that feeling again and sometimes you do get it for a bit, but honestly it's not worth the time you spend on it. Unless you're on a team or something.
i've stopped playing League for quite some time. Got something to do in the mean time but right now i've finished all the games i wanted and i'm waiting for the others to come... With Worlds just around the corner, it's getting harder to not reinstall League... When he said it's either stomp or get stomped, it's so true that it becomes sad.
Playing for about 9 years, still like it, on and off though, I like the challenge and improving if anything I might cycle it out when I feel that the current meta is stale or boring or when I feel like I'd be better off in a 1v1 PvP game like Starcraft2.

I sorta feel a similar way about Skyrim. I’ve put over 10000 total hours between the base game and special edition (and 900+ hours of that was just testing mods). I’ve probably 100%ed the game over 10 times, but I’ll still load up an old save or start a new character and I’ll just… roam aimlessly. Then I realize 12 hours passed and that I barely did anything with that time.
I’m with Joey on pvp. I absolutely despise playing with total strangers. Makes my anxiety spike hard. Only game I was fine playing with randos was the mario kart for the og wii (big RIP for the wii servers). That’s it.
I met League the same year Connor has and is the reason I never graduated college for 6 years and 3 "retries" at that, but now I have clear goals in this life I know to be not forever that I play only 2-3 games of *wild rift* every 2 days. Its no longer a vice destroying my future but yeah when Riot sneaks even to your phone you cant fully let go.
As someone who has “quit” league 6 times, let me just say it doesn’t stick, either you get the random urge to play it or your friends try to drag you back in if they are. I still love the game but I’m learning to love it from a distance with all the new champions I’m seeing
The best way to quit league is by going cold turkey. Trust me, I speak from experience. I quit approximately 2 years ago from one day to another. I didn't look at anything League related for months until Worlds came around. To this day I can still watch League content, but I never feel the urge to play it anymore.
yep, people who play league and enjoy it play with friends, when you watch offline tv play it, they treat each other kindly or respectly not insulting other ppl, or even saying good things to each other. i saw a match in which lily was nervous and her friends are like, you can do this, i know you can! its great watching a LoL game with no toxic ppl in it, but yes, its also very rare.
It's very hard to get into league without a bunch of friends who also play it. Dealing with the community that doesnt play with their friends is hard. Some groups are really fun to play with, expecially ARAMS

So I'm a support main on League and I'm very defensive about my role. I value vision and map control so much. I actually consider support a secondary jungle. I get sooo mad when I get a support on my team who never deep wards, picks Doran's Ring (which is actually bannable in pro play for inting/BM) as an item, never roams mid, recalls right when the dragon is up, doesn't ward prep the objectives, ect. Not to mention even if I do win my lane, my top and JG feed their ass off constantly. It's like a disease. It's SO fucking hard to climb ranked as a support because so much relies on your teammates not being retarded. Not sure how half these people even make it to Gold/Plat .IF you don't have a wardscore of at least 65 every game, you are bad. Cannot emphasize enough how important vision is.

i have played league since 2012. and even though i've had my rough patches with the players i will never hate the game itself. i love the game. i just can't stand the people at times. and i know that's like completely unavoidable and maybe a bit hypocritical but i do honestly truly love the game even if the people are insufferable.

dont know guys Ive been playing league for years - since gp rework around season 6 I think and its my main on and off game I play actively for 2 months then 1 I dont play at all. Its a lot of fun I always play new champs with friends troll a bit and its cool.
The thing about league is that it's so unforgiving but it can be so much fun and rewarding. There are so many op tools and mechanics that its nerve-wracking. I stopped tilting after I accepted how the game works and decided to play around all of it and actually started climbing.

- You spent almost an hour in this game, you did your best but it seems your best isn't enough AND/OR your teammates didn't do their best.

You wasted almost an hour of your life, you gained nothing, and you lost something (LP/Rank Points)

Same for me on league. Worst thing is that now that I have stable income, I am also obsessed on insta buying every new skin that is just a tiny bit sparkly... someone really needs to stop me. When I moved countries I lost people to play with and now its all just bot games because im like an old cat lady, just with league achievements... I literally cant sleep if I don't have the actual seasonal pass achievements done before they expire.

I almost agree with Garnt but with a slight deviation. Competitive games are actually most fun when you first get good enough to play ranked and you're in that first period of growth and climb. The feeling of progression and learning is so addictive and once you hit that wall, you end up trying to optimize to chase that feeling again and sometimes you do get it for a bit, but honestly it's not worth the time you spend on it. Unless you're on a team or something.

Playing for about 9 years, still like it, on and off though, I like the challenge and improving if anything I might cycle it out when I feel that the current meta is stale or boring or when I feel like I'd be better off in a 1v1 PvP game like Starcraft2.

I sorta feel a similar way about Skyrim. I’ve put over 10000 total hours between the base game and special edition (and 900+ hours of that was just testing mods). I’ve probably 100%ed the game over 10 times, but I’ll still load up an old save or start a new character and I’ll just… roam aimlessly. Then I realize 12 hours passed and that I barely did anything with that time.
I’m with Joey on pvp. I absolutely despise playing with total strangers. Makes my anxiety spike hard. Only game I was fine playing with randos was the mario kart for the og wii (big RIP for the wii servers). That’s it.
Got bored of solo queue so I moved to TFT, it's more chill.
I met League the same year Connor has and is the reason I never graduated college for 6 years and 3 "retries" at that, but now I have clear goals in this life I know to be not forever that I play only 2-3 games of *wild rift* every 2 days. Its no longer a vice destroying my future but yeah when Riot sneaks even to your phone you cant fully let go.
Addiction does not mean enjoyment. I'm unable to stay sane after a couple of ranked games.
As someone who has “quit” league 6 times, let me just say it doesn’t stick, either you get the random urge to play it or your friends try to drag you back in if they are. I still love the game but I’m learning to love it from a distance with all the new champions I’m seeing

The best way to quit league is by going cold turkey. Trust me, I speak from experience. I quit approximately 2 years ago from one day to another. I didn't look at anything League related for months until Worlds came around. To this day I can still watch League content, but I never feel the urge to play it anymore.

yep, people who play league and enjoy it play with friends, when you watch offline tv play it, they treat each other kindly or respectly not insulting other ppl, or even saying good things to each other. i saw a match in which lily was nervous and her friends are like, you can do this, i know you can! its great watching a LoL game with no toxic ppl in it, but yes, its also very rare.

It's very hard to get into league without a bunch of friends who also play it. Dealing with the community that doesnt play with their friends is hard. Some groups are really fun to play with, expecially ARAMS

I played league since Beta up until Jhin was released. I switched to the superior MOBA, Dota 2. 4K hours in and I haven't looked back.

So I'm a support main on League and I'm very defensive about my role. I value vision and map control so much. I actually consider support a secondary jungle. I get sooo mad when I get a support on my team who never deep wards, picks Doran's Ring (which is actually bannable in pro play for inting/BM) as an item, never roams mid, recalls right when the dragon is up, doesn't ward prep the objectives, ect. Not to mention even if I do win my lane, my top and JG feed their ass off constantly. It's like a disease. It's SO fucking hard to climb ranked as a support because so much relies on your teammates not being retarded. Not sure how half these people even make it to Gold/Plat
.IF you don't have a wardscore of at least 65 every game, you are bad. Cannot emphasize enough how important vision is.
