    Hey man super helpful video as I'm about to tackle this now. My house looks similar to yours in the layout and was wondering what size/depth holes you dug for the stumps? Like hole depth vs house height vs stump embedment in concrete! Cheers!

      Stump needs to be 100mm into natural stiff clay, minimum hole depth is 400mm. Holes are 400mmx400mm wide. 2 bags of conc per hole but I like 3 for good measure and need to ram pack the soil when you backfill.
      If you can, dig to the bottom of an existing stump. That will give you a good indication of what needs to be done. Some old stumps aren't even concreted in so it goes to show you don't need to go crazy. That being said it's good to be thorough and follow standard modern practices.

      Thanks for the comment! I couldn't find a solid video on this topic so thought I'd try make a tutorial myself.
      Do you need some restumping done at your place?

    Some rough work digging under a house! Got ours restumped and relevelles in Perth. Def cracked a lot of the walls, especially our bathroom lol. It was so sloped so we're stoked now.

    The stumps with the threaded steel seem to be a good alternative, push it through the bearer and tighten a nut on top to keep it snug.

      Absolutely! I couldn't get my hands on those ones at the time so we made do with what was in stock, we had to keep the job running without delays.

    I have a small brick vernier on stumps .thinking of places concrete blocks down the putting in adjustable steel posts ?

    • @dingeldiy
      @dingeldiy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good option but material is expensive! The adjustable stumps I've come across were $100 each

    What size jack were you using? 5ton? 10ton?

      10,000 lbs if i remember correctly. Bigger is better but I just used what I had! Are you planning to give something like this a go at your place?

    You really like your dirty jobs with akward working positions, dont you? I understand why most people take their floors out. One question, being from a differnt continent: Whats the benefit of settig a house on stumps instead of a concrete foundation? Price, ventilation and temperature handeling?

      I wasn't planning on doing this work as I mentioned in the video! Working as a sole-trader you learn to say yes to everything.
      Yeah you pretty much nailed it. It's cheaper, keeps the house cooler during hot Australian summers. Less likely to flood, good access to services from underneath for maintenance and alterations.
      You don't see it anymore in new construction here but it's very common practice with decking, renovations and restorations.

      @@dingeldiy Thank you for answering, if it gets any hotter round here in the next years, this might be a new (to this part of the world) trend.
