definitely the kinda things i'm hoping to see in this series. Uniques no one remembers but changed incidentally due to changes to mechanics they happen to interact with. if for some reason Blood Rage isn't an option in a build and sustaining regular RF isn't either, there is Arcane RF which should do considerably less self-dps, making it easier to mitigate, but still enough to shave off your ES reliably. you won't get the spell damage buff but you also won't have to invest into surviving normal RF.
All classes start with 15 base evasion rating. To do this, you'd need to path from ghost dance all the way to IR, or get IR on gear, which severely limits use case
Damnit, I've been playing D4 for a couple weeks and this video opened up PoB for me. Both of the zero-ES modifiers are very interesting to me, as a top side tree player.
A good addition to the series might be to go into POE ninja at the end episode and show/explain how some people are using the item in real builds, just a though love the series.
Random Idea about using this for wither chance and profane ground on an elemental build with the harvest gloves which use wither to boost ele damage. Then, if you can get some elemental as extra chaos, it could be a nice damage boost too.
you forgot the main interaction right now in 3.24, broken faith + the apostate, to easily mantain the 0 ES condition and at the same time boosting life
Which also means you can play a lifestacker Petrified Blood/Bloodthirst melee build that converts all that extra dmg from Bloodthirst into chaos dmg! Lets hope some smart build people figure out something cool with that in the future.
That's a cool combo, but I'm not sure about main interaction? There's zero public characters using these items together across all leagues in Necropolis and the main reason is because Rathpith is incredibly difficult to beat as the go-to shield for the Apostate, while Broken Faith has a very low amount of ES(and no life). I could see it on an attack build using Bloodthirst as @Hooga89 said.
@@dreamcore_gg It might also be because chaos spell dmg isn't as popular as elemental. Most of the time people play chaos dmg for poison unless they can afford an Original Sin...
@Dreamcore I think this is something worth thinking about: a version of an accuracy stacker that uses Dual Strike of Ambidexterity (using Paradoxica for heavy amplification of the resulting damage)
Paradoxica + dual strike of ambidexterity is a very well known interaction though. Mathil did it in Affliction, and a few other streamers did it this league as well. I'm not sure how accuracy stacking with it makes it that interesting vs simply doing usual accuracy stacking stuff.
@@drewunger2133 the usual accuracy stacking uses Replica Last Resort and projectile-based attack skills; I'm saying that Dual Strike of Ambidexterity is a promising alternative. Obviously all the interactions with Paradoxica are known. I highlighted it in brackets to emphasize the interaction with Storm Rider boots: once all other accuracy scaling (for attack speed and critical strikes) are done, then the only scaling left is for damage. And doubling the damage is essentially the same as 100% more accuracy at that point.
I make witch (almost exclusively occultist) melee attack builds. Until I stopped playing just before t17 maps appeared, I dealt with pinnacles and uber pinnacles often. This shield's chanes are very interesting to me as, well, I play occultist to do attack builds. This should be fun.
As someone who plays almost exclusively poison builds: I'd like to say that the changes to Unholy Might is mainly a nerf at the high end, and more of an alternate way to deal with reflect when you need to. At first glance this looks like a left side of the tree, phys spell crit shield due to investment of needing consecrated ground and armour. I would argue it's not just Unholy Might that makes this shield viable but the conversion, and wither on hit in conjunction with the crit from profane ground. You also forgot to touch on the part where wither has a base duration of 2s- this is almost impossible to hit max stacks when investing into crit because crit multi and cast speed are typically fighting for each others spot on your gear/tree. I will say the -10% to chaos resistance is something that is sorely needed in all flavors of chaos builds right now due to them removing alt qual despair, and reducing the amount of wither effect you can get on the tree over the past handful of leagues. It's hard to say whether this is actually worth it over say a 2 wand setup w/ punishment or some other shenanigans. From a poison standpoint, there are just too many good defensive shield options, and by the time you get to a point where you can fit profane ground in, you'd most likely be eyeballing rational doctrine. Yeah I don't think this shield pairs too well with poison, which is why I didn't really mention it, there are just better options. For wither I mainly see the chance to inflict as a bonus, you'll still be using wither totems early and some balance of terror setup etc. later on
I tested this shield as a weapon swap with rational doctrine, when i swap into broken faith, i still get the consecrated ground buff so I can only assume it works the opposite way but the mechanic is pretty finicky as strike skills go
Yes I believe the modifier 'consecrated ground around you while stationary' doesn't count as a method of creating consecrated ground, since it's a temporary effect that mimics that of normal consecrated ground(and then that effect lingers)
I think it can be cool if you can combined it with Necromantic Aegis and use it with a heavy physical minion with no starting energy shield like Stone Golem 🤔
One of the most powerful crafts i ever made was this league with a shied with PDR , warcry and chaos res plus life. Its hard to compete between the 3 unique shieIds in the game tha tmatter and all the rares. I miss the poe days when random gear and builds could do all of the game and not like 5-6 archetypes that require 300div....few years ago you could play any skills with skme random unique interaction and do all of the game....these days.....
local mods are just extremely unclear at a glance. Looking at the mods I would assume the shield gives me -10 block chance, but it actually give +12 block.
would the profane ground created by sulfur flask be boosted by increased to flask effect? I would guess not, but Im always surprised to see flask effect apply to stuff I didn't think of
Years a go played puryfying flame agnostic miner very skechy build and removes most clear from build but single target damage was spicy - thou it was older version of this unique wich was way weaker if i remember corectly
Oh nice… armor that’s good for an aegis build. Wait. Or I guess a traditional armor stacker! Oh they use dual dreamfeather? Darn. Oh nice… easy wither. We can scale that with either effect from pathfinder… which already gets easy wither. It seems as if this shield is good for a build that uses crit damage from a physical source, but it’s hard to justify using it on a spell build because it lacks gem levels and it’s offensive utility is far surpassed by the other offensive options you mentioned. So now we’re talking about an attack-based crit build that uses 1h and shield. For me personally, that basically rules out melee too because totems “ew”. So now we’re talking ranged 1h attack builds that use crit and a pure phys base attack. That don’t want ES. And want armor but not an armor stacker and not for Aegis. Maybe a champ? They kind of half ass stack armor (and ES). It’s just so niche. I think something missing from the game that holds this item back from relevancy is sources of global “more physical damage”. Original sin can leverage elemental damage scales by things like Elemental Overload which are then converted to chaos and get a leg up on the penetration scaling vector because it ignores enemy chaos res. If there were a “30% more physical damage if you have CONDITIONAL RECENTLY” keystone or something, phys to chaos conversion could become more prominent. The issue is that several skills already have inherent phys to chaos conversion, and such a keystone would be too strong for those skills unless the keystone was somehow antithetical to those skills without significant sacrifice. Something like “You cannot inflict poison.” Or something to that effect might work to balance it.
@@kernergades The helmet makes modifiers such as 'X% increased maximum energy shield' instead be 'X% increased maximum ward'. It won't convert flat maximum energy shield into ward

The reasons why this Shield will never be used: 1 - Sin's rebirth exist 2 - Crit cluster exist (Can easily proc even on miner or totem build) 3 - Shield is too valuable of a slot to "Lose" for many build. Defensive part of Broken fate is really bad - 100% increase armour while providing 200+ armour (and which forcing you into questionable shenanigans) is just not enough, you just take in hand Dawnbreaker and its already from 1800 to 2200 flat armour baseline excluding other stats. Not to say that there is more options for other archtypes. This shield is just too bad to be used. (Also, does this shield fck up your Bottled Faith?)
wow, ggg really sucks hard when it comes to wording effects. "lowering your res and making you easier to critically hit" could mean, "its making you easier to be hit critically" or could mean "it is easier for you to critically hit enemies"

I'm surprised Ghost Dance wasn't mentioned, you can avoid evasion or convert it to armour to prevent your ES from being above 0

Potentially interesting for an attack build; spell builds that want to life stack using Apostate really want Rathpith Globe glued to the shield slot.
I was one of the few people building around this shield in SSF, on a strength stacking generals cry build. Was a lot of fun.
i used this shield a lot this league due to the rework to Unholy Might, my best build was jugg seismic trap with the spirit drinker mask

It's in my list of items to potentially cover in this series. I think it's a great item, especially at the cost/rarity

New gladiator ascendancy completely offsets the poor block on this shield, opening up some interesting setups!

Faithguard? It doesn't convert ES into ward, it makes increases/reductions to ES apply to ward instead

Easier to get a "Consecrated Ground while stationary" armor. Your AG now attacks w/ 100% chance to be critted and -10% on all res.
