Great safety tips. One other one I didn’t see was to adjust the height of the blade to only cut the thickness of the material thus saving the blade wear.
Your safety tips are good as gold. Especially because you don't just tell what to avoid, but you present a solution for very typical situations. One little bonus tip, that works wonders: Make your work bench heavy. It will stand more stable, it will not wander off when pushing with the circular saw. Even folding work stands can be weighed down with some bricks on a board.
Hey Shane, one of the best things I ever did when it came to a circular saw was buy a 165mm 18v Makita. The smaller size does about 80% of what my 235mm Hitachi saw would do, so I only need that on special occasions. But the best thing about the 18v cordless, is the brake on it. Release the trigger and the saw stops in only a few seconds, and it has the added benefit of no cord, which means no tripping hazard and no fluffing around with the cord accidentally getting caught. Just my 2 cents
I just bought the DeWalt Atomic series 4 1/2" 20V saw. Because of where I am and the light cutting I do it's much more practical than my standard 7 1/4" circ.
Perfect for small projects. Not got a lot of power so if the wood starts to flex it stops the saw pretty easy. Use it for small tasks and you will be happy. Safety system Works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c .lose your grip on the saw it shuts off and the sheath closes over exposed saw.
Wow, that's super lucky. I had just used my Circular Saw for the first time and I didn't know why it had kicked back on me. I was super lucky because it shot to my face. Now I know that it was bound. Thanks for educating me.

Wise advice and funny as always. This is a great reference for circs. One of the clearest remaining memories from my childhood is my dad coming close to taking his arm off with a circular saw. Early 90s, im out the backyard with him and hes cutting on saw horses, it kicks back and he gets a scratch from one end of his forearm to the other. He said some words, put the saw down, sat down and chain smoked while staring at the ground/sky/ his arm!! *Cue The Wonder Years opening credits*

My pleasure mate! I have to say that we all at times are guilty of practicing our yoga moves which can be to our detriment if things go wrong 😬 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺

I will hopefully be using it again (I've been inspired by a lot of your DIY project videos), and I'll definitely be a lot more careful next time

G'day Uncle. Very well presented. Love the Bad dad jokes. I hope you can continue the DIY For Knuckleheads tips and jokes for a very long time, Cheers. Oh! one tip from me...do not overstretch on a job. I did it. I will say no more.
@@diyforknuckleheads Haha, mines not a serious channel. Just a bit of fun as a hobby. I love the way you edit your videos though and I'd love to learn how to do it without spending all day. Maybe when the kids are a bit older and I've got more time on my hands when I'm not working I'll up my game a bit as I'll have more time to make videos and edit.
I grew up around: chainsaws, cherry pickers, and wood splitters. My father told me as a kid if your ever doing a task and it starts to feel unsafe, stop because most likely it is unsafe. To this day I apply it to everything from ladders, to wood chippers, to weed whackers. Good tips! :-)
Loved the video unc!!! I always live the dad jokes🤣🤣🤣. Ive had my saw for about a year now and i always use these tips and nothing happend yet, also i just use an old plywood sheet that i have to cutt on because its easy and everything is supported. I signed up for the course and im curious unc!!! Have a great week🍻🍻
Thanks as always Rushill and great tip re the plywood support sheet 👍 Appreciate you signing up for the course too. I'm still making it but as soon as it's done l'll let you know. Cheers, Shane 👍😁🇦🇺
This video came across my feed at the perfect time as I'm finding that I've been using my circular saw more often. As a beginner, this is life saving information. e.g I did not know about the clamping situation as my dad always just did the yoga poses to hold things down so that's where I learned. Gotta go buy some clamps. What's a good size clamp to get for a beginner that would be good for most household applications?
I've been guilty as well Luis 😬 Glad you liked the "trio" of trip hazards 😂.....l almost pulled a hamstring trying to do them 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Thanks for this video! I have a cordless circular saw (came in a tool combo set) but I've not used it yet. This video gave me some valuable info. Thanks again.
I'm a great believer in PPE Shane and I was surprised to learn recently that i shouldn't use my gloves when using a saw as the blade can catch the glove and draw my hand in. So pleased I learnt this from uTube and not from experience. Keep up the good work 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads you have a Great gift in teaching your Skills i am so blessed by the way you Deliver your lesson. You are a Amazing Teacher!!! Keep up your great Work. As you are also taking pressure off The Emergency Departments. 🏅👈
@@diyforknuckleheads I will watch it Again!!!! And maybe a 3rd Time For Safety Resons Only 🎯 be safe today brother and if your ever passing through this little City on a Walkabout you are allways Welcome. James.
Thanks for video. I recently bought a circular saw and discovered for myself how loud it is when I switched it on for the first time (no blade attached). So I ordered a pair of ear muffs that arrived a few days ago, and plan to use the circular saw for the first time tomorrow (clamping down my work pieces for sure).
@@diyforknuckleheads Thanks. I made sure to keep both hands on the saw, stand to the side... but it didn't move smoothly... so I stopped. Everything seemed OK, so I tried again... but same thing... and there was a strange smell. "It's burning the wood, maybe I'm moving to slowly," I thought to myself. That's when I decided to have another look at the blade and realised I'd make knucklehead mistake #1 - the blade was on the wrong way. Doh! It was much better after I changed it. :)
@@diyforknuckleheads You're most welcome. I really appreciate all your videos, I find them very useful and quick to the point. Also like your personality and humor. I had a genuine laugh with the Nobel prize winner one. 😂🤣
A good video is useful. I have a circular saw Makita 6601 one of my favorite tools and I have been using it for a long time and I understand that sometimes you just forget about the safety of use, feeling like an "experienced user"))). And for beginners, this video should be watched without fail, from the instructions You can't do that with an instrument. The video tutorial is much clearer.
A good wake up. Every safety tip need to be taken seriously. My safety tip is if you have a perfect cut lined up stop and start again if you don't have all your PPE on. Those trip hazards were hilarious LOL. Thanks.
I love my 20v Dewalt. I mainly use it for demo & rough cuts on construction lumber. It's powerful enough to get the job done, but very easy to mandarin control of at all times, even in sketchy situations. And the blade stops very quickly upon release of the trigger. I won't win any fine woodworking awards, but it's pretty much perfect for my needs.
Bahahaha! Your hilarious! Thank you for the early morning laugh, that woke me up! About to use a circular saw for the first time at 50! I’m sure an unco plus I don’t know what the hell im doing so thank you for saving my fingers! ❤
@@diyforknuckleheads brilliant! You are my new TH-cam go to person for avoidance of slice and dice of extremities! An outstanding video, dude! Excellent tips to avoid injury, however, common sense...or the lack of it is a major factor! I've never used a circular saw, maybe I never will it if I do, I'll come back and watch this video first! Keep up the fantastic work, Chief! 👍
Great tips & dad jokes as usual! 1 tip i'd share is to use the saws depth setting every time.. avoids cutting things by accident, but more importantly it becomes much easier to follow a straight line/guide.
Very true Seth. As a left hander with a right handed saw sometimes you need to adapt under certain circumstances. Just as long as both hands are on the saw and you're in control 👍
Bloody grouse tips for any beginner mate as all accidents happen in a second. I’ve encountered kickback but luckily it was with an underpowered battery saw but it proves vigilance is imperative. Btw that was a good joke 👌👏👏👏👏 & massive congratulations on 300K subscriptions 🇦🇺🍻👍

Hey Shane! Cheers! Long time mate! LOL @ 05:23, & 05:57! What a ripper, had me laughing my *bleep off! Excellent video, and I Than You for it. If it saves even one person from injury, it will have been priceless! Always remember when cross cutting, “blade side, waste side!” It’s not always practical, but should be adhered to whenever it is! So glad you are safe, and please stay safe and Healthy! Cheers Mate 👍👍👍👍👍✌🏻🙄🔨
Thanks Shane, great tips. I've seen the odd tradie occasionally doing some strange yoga poses, including one bloke I saw balancing a board on his knee and trimming the end with a battery power saw. I used to think it doesn't look right but they're qualified and trained they maybe that's how they were taught to do it. After watching your video, it clearly wasn't right, he was taking a shortcut and it will come back to bite one day. One other thing, I knew about putting lengths of timber under large sheets, but I didn't know they were called gluts. Learnt a new word today. Thanks Knackers.
As a beginner I really appreciate these tips. I think I'm guilty in doing all the things you demonstrate! Those examples of what one can trip in 😅😅.. Now if I'm allowed to make a suggestion for a future video, I could really need a bandsaw safety tips video. Cheers Shane, take care.

Glad to help mate! 👍😁🇦🇺

Thanks Andy! Yeah getting close mate 👍😁🤞🤞
Good tips! :-)
Yeah great advice mate 👍👍🇦🇺😁
Loved the video unc!!! I always live the dad jokes🤣🤣🤣. Ive had my saw for about a year now and i always use these tips and nothing happend yet, also i just use an old plywood sheet that i have to cutt on because its easy and everything is supported. I signed up for the course and im curious unc!!! Have a great week🍻🍻
Thanks as always Rushill and great tip re the plywood support sheet 👍 Appreciate you signing up for the course too. I'm still making it but as soon as it's done l'll let you know. Cheers, Shane 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads cheers unc!!!! thanks for setting something up l;ike this!!
@@RPmusic06 My pleasure mate 👍👍
This video came across my feed at the perfect time as I'm finding that I've been using my circular saw more often. As a beginner, this is life saving information. e.g I did not know about the clamping situation as my dad always just did the yoga poses to hold things down so that's where I learned. Gotta go buy some clamps. What's a good size clamp to get for a beginner that would be good for most household applications?
Cheers mate! Glad the video was useful 👍 6" clamps are pretty handy but having 12" clamps just gives you a bit more flexibility. Cheers 😁👍🇦🇺
Thanks helped me with School!
Glad I could help! 👍😁🇦🇺
I love the list of banana peels, skateboards, and garden rakes. So classic! Great tips overall, I have been guilty of a few of these.
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful 👍😁🇦🇺
I'm a great believer in PPE Shane and I was surprised to learn recently that i shouldn't use my gloves when using a saw as the blade can catch the glove and draw my hand in. So pleased I learnt this from uTube and not from experience. Keep up the good work 👍
Yeah Ian...that can happen mate 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Another great video Knacks. I find that getting the blade depth right can make kickback a little less likely too. Love your work.
Yeah that's a good one Vince 👍 Appreciate the feedback mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Love this Guy. From the other side of the Earth. A learner still all fingers, Thank you 😍🤙 James in Dublin City .

Hahahahahah.....cheers mate 👍😁
Thanks for video. I recently bought a circular saw and discovered for myself how loud it is when I switched it on for the first time (no blade attached). So I ordered a pair of ear muffs that arrived a few days ago, and plan to use the circular saw for the first time tomorrow (clamping down my work pieces for sure).
Good luck with it mate! Take your time and you'll be fine 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
@@bhartissimo Hahahahha...we all make mistakes mate 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads I don't mind that mistake, especially since I discovered it soon enough. :)
Great tips, thank you very much!

@@diyforknuckleheads You're most welcome. I really appreciate all your videos, I find them very useful and quick to the point. Also like your personality and humor. I had a genuine laugh with the Nobel prize winner one. 😂🤣
Great tips, thanks.
Cheers Edward! Thanks for the feedback mate 👍😁🇦🇺
I’m here for the Dad jokes but the safety tips are icing on the cake. All saw accidents are bad news.
Cheers mate 😁👍🇦🇺
Ideal! Exactly what I need to build a timber fence this summer in Scotland! Cheers mate! 🙏
My pleasure mate! Good luck with the fence 👍😁🇦🇺
A good video is useful. I have a circular saw Makita 6601 one of my favorite tools and I have been using it for a long time and I understand that sometimes you just forget about the safety of use, feeling like an "experienced user"))). And for beginners, this video should be watched without fail, from the instructions
You can't do that with an instrument. The video tutorial is much clearer.
Thank you very much for the feedback mate....we ALL need a reminder sometimes no matter how experienced we are 👍😁🇦🇺
Great tips. And clean floor. How many Times I see floor full of debry and saw dust.
Yep....spot on Tomaz 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
A good wake up. Every safety tip need to be taken seriously. My safety tip is if you have a perfect cut lined up stop and start again if you don't have all your PPE on. Those trip hazards were hilarious LOL. Thanks.
😂 Thanks Matt and good common sense re the PPE! Cheers mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Love the pink saw horse 😉
👍😁
😂.....No worries at all.....glad you found the vid useful 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads brilliant! You are my new TH-cam go to person for avoidance of slice and dice of extremities! I am the world’s biggest unco and if anyone would cut their fingers off with one of those things it would be me! I have even put my husband onto you, even though he knows everything and once had a chainsaw kickback , using it at head height building a retaining wall, which hit him in his forehead, the only saviour was he had safety glasses on. He still had a trip to hospital and a huge scar it could have been a lot worse, shame I didn’t have a life insurance policy on him them! lol😂🇳🇿🌈

Your dad jokes are great! I relayed this one to my pop, and he laughed good and hard.
Thanks!
😂.....Thanks Jonathan 👍 Glad your pop liked it mate 👍😁🇦🇺
An outstanding video, dude! Excellent tips to avoid injury, however, common sense...or the lack of it is a major factor! I've never used a circular saw, maybe I never will it if I do, I'll come back and watch this video first! Keep up the fantastic work, Chief! 👍
Thanks as always Andy! Hope you're having a great weekend mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Your presentation is excellent. Thanks.
👍😁....No worries mate....glad you found it useful 👍😁🇦🇺
Great tips & dad jokes as usual! 1 tip i'd share is to use the saws depth setting every time.. avoids cutting things by accident, but more importantly it becomes much easier to follow a straight line/guide.
Yeah great tip mate 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
4:18 In woodwork we are told to hold both saw handles, just in case of kickback
Very true Seth. As a left hander with a right handed saw sometimes you need to adapt under certain circumstances. Just as long as both hands are on the saw and you're in control 👍
@@diyforknuckleheads I'm a lefty too, so I know what you mean 👍😎
@@sethc6663 We’re a special breed Seth 👍😂
Bloody grouse tips for any beginner mate as all accidents happen in a second. I’ve encountered kickback but luckily it was with an underpowered battery saw but it proves vigilance is imperative.
Btw that was a good joke 👌👏👏👏👏 & massive congratulations on 300K subscriptions 🇦🇺🍻👍
Good ol' kickback mate ...the scourge we all experience at some point in time 😬 Can't believe you liked the joke!....l must be doing something wrong 😂 Thanks for watching Harry 👍😁🇦🇺🍺🍺
Hey Shane!
😂😂...Cheers for that George and l'll remember that saying as well....very clever 👍 Hope you're having a great weekend mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Cheers Len 👍 Yeah l've seen some rather dubious things done in the past too mate....thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
nice video. Wish I'd watch it before I lost my thumb.
Good tips!
Cheers mate! Glad you liked them 👍😁🇦🇺
Thanks Shane for the helpful videos. Hope everything is going good in Australia for you and your family 🤞

Cheers Jesper! From what l've seen from you, you are far from a beginner 👍👍👍 Good idea re the bandsaw mate....one problem....l don't one a bandsaw 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
