I love TH-cam as a learning tool. Needed to make a copper top this morning and having never done one came here looking for help. The corner treatment used here was perfect for my job. Paused the video a few times at key moments and the top came together beautifully. So helpful. Thanks to this 5 year old snippet of wisdom.
Nice work mate. I used your video to learn how to make copper tops. Now I make them alot. I glue my copper down before folding and I use a curved wood mallet to give it an all over hand beaten look. And I solder the corner folds. I quite often refer back to this video if I haven't made one for a while just to check my corner cuts. Thanks
Such a beautiful job. Alot of good hard work went into making that. Personally I cant stand that you decided to use cheap particle board plywood glued to a thin piece of cabinet grade wood. Why not just use one solid piece of good cabinet grade wood? Like 5/8" birch or maple. How much money is that really saving you? It's just such a good job, it deserves the higher quality wood in my opinion.
Cool video Mitch. And if I ever do a copper piece, I will definitely buy your juice! One question though, I noticed you dabbing the warm water rinse on. Does putting the water on and wiping do anything to the chemical patina like streak it? It's hard to tell from the video.
Any idea on how that juice would hot aluminum? Secondly, what was that wax/paste you hit it with at the end? Lastly, who are the artists in those gypsy jazz tunes?
I guess I'm on the other side. I prefer it to be a shiny top. either way, I love the construction and I definitely need to order some "juice" for a zinc top.

Question is if I decide to mix the concentrate into a larger container with water, how long of a shelf life would say it will have? Thank you...

I think I'm definitely missing something... it just seems like a lot of copper and it looked pretty dull.. again I have no idea I don't do this for a living I'm just wondering if it's a way to seal it or something I'm unaware of, idk someone explain this please... Do you epoxy it after from keeping rust from getting everywhere??. I'm perplexed
I've always wondered about the copper that you use. What gauge? Where do you get it. I had some copper that was too thick and almost "springy" feeling. Maybe it was a mix of copper and another metal? Would love to hear more details. Thanks for the video!
+SeriusB There are two types of rolled copper: Hot Rolled (annealed) is what is called soft copper and that is what you want to work with for hand forming. Cold Rolled (work-hardened) copper is stiff and springy. Both are relatively pure copper. The stuff I get is 16 oz. or 16 gauge. some hardware stores carry it. roofers use it.
If you don't clinch the copper tacks, why use them? When I do work as you are doing I use brass/bronze ring shank nails that hole 1000 times better than unclinched tacks.

I have not tested shelf life beyond 2 years but would assume that as long as the container is sealed it should last for a long time

Is that lacquer to protect it? Could you spray lacquer on the raw, shiny surface to protect from oxidation?
yes you could... better to just buff the copper to clean it as you go or use lemon juice to take the oxidation off. lacquer will chip off
