[S2 - Eps. 23] Spending a day with locals in Porvenir, Chile

  • In this episode I am not riding my motorcycle very far. I'm waiting for the ferry to get across to Punta Arenas from Porvenir. So I spend most of the day chasing a Chilean simcard, finding some proper breakfast and checking out an ancient cinema.
Not everyday can be a full riding day, sometimes you have to do some logistics and get organised!

yes Spanish is very hard. German for me was very much easier but French and Spanish I found very very hard. You have to know he and she verbs and past and present tenses what very hard to master if you do not know.

It was very interesting to me to hear Juan talk about language, his dog, his education, etc.. To see how people are around the world takes me out of my USA bubble and see that so much of the people around the world are so much the same. I got this experience in Costa Rica - I speak very little Spanish, but managed to have a conversation with a security guard at a resort. He was an older gentleman and was delighted that I tried to speak Spanish with him, and he knew no English at all. It was a nice connection, and a nice moment for the both of us.

Noraly, the more you show the things "behind the scenes", the more interesting your videos will be. Sometimes it makes us [the viewer] feel like you are normal, plus it adds the cultural experience. Oil changes, bike repairs, shopping, conversations with store keepers, or local travelers, all add to the "attraction" of the videos, more so than some of the just endless road shots. Please add more BTS clips. That would be appreciated.

Liked the chat with the shopkeeper, such a nice chap and interesting and interested in Noraly's adventure, also funny when he said about the French being irritated when English is spoke.

Lovely to see some behind the scenes clips of your interactions with the locals. Also nice to see friendly dogs not like the ones who chase you 🙂

I loved the old guy in the shop, no airs and grace's, and about the French and speaking English, yep, he's got that right. You and your visit will be legend soon, and people will hear of the lady riding the continent.

Always nice to see same kind of spirited persons, local people ,who don't need to go on world travels to be a "man of the world",just by being curious about people and have the abillity to be empthatic, those moments create the connection and the memories to last a lifetime.

Yes....more behind the scenes stuff. One of the great things that Noraly documents is the kindness of strangers. We need more of that in this world.

Really good episode, just want to put in a small vote for meeting the people (it was also super good in, say, Armenia!) in these times of stress for so many people. We can demonstrate that we are all, well, people. Thanks.

Like many comments below, I really enjoyed your conversation with Juan. It's nice to hear the thoughts and opinions of the local people. The other and far more important fact is that people world wide are generally nice, helpful, and truly interested in speaking with you. While I know there are exceptions, people generally do not deserve the broad brush unfriendly & unsafe label our governments place on them. The interactions that you and adventurers like you have with people around the world has restored my faith in humanity. This video has far more personable than any others you've published on this adventure so far. Absolutely one of your best. Please share more like them when the opportunity arises. Thanks and safe, travels.

You get to meet such amazing people!! Juan - what a nice guy!! I laughed when he said the French hate it when you speak English to them 😊 I have had this experience in France but feel that they might be right. We English don't always try to speak the local language to people, and maybe we should try harder 😁

-The international language of Air Traffic Controllers is English. Any pilots flying internationally, commercial especially are required to speak and understand fluent English. That alone must infuriate the French. lol

Noraly, we love watching your adventures. You are so cool, courageous and capable, showing us lands we have never known, not the touristy parts but off roads, the real countryside. You show us your breakfasts, your accommodation, how you nearly froze, the heat, the isolation, the condors, talking to the locals, your good knowledge of Spanish, how you cope with all difficulties even with the chasing dogs. A highlight was your chat with the local when buying a sim-card. Can't wait for tonight for the next episode. Be safe and thank you.

What a nice idea to leave the conversation with the shop owner on your video. I am originally Portuguese, but I also speak fluent Spanish, and I call tell you Noraly that you speak very good Spanish. The most important is to understand and being well understood, which is your level of command. Hello from Norway!

I'm glad you showed the conversation in the shop, it will probably be a story he tells for years .................. 'she was riding to Alaska would you believe' ........... plus he was so chuffed with your Spanish
