    alright so ive since started on drawing my interpretation of the baleen dragons but while drawing it dawned on me that if they flew forever there was no way for them to get water, which got me to ponder. eventually i came up with something:the tiny flying creatures that the dragon feeds on are found all around the sky, but mostly hang around in medium size clouds, to drink from the moisture there and lay their spawn in the droplets, which attracts the larger and older dragons that are too large to just feed on the smaller swarms down below. the younger dragons only ever go up there to drink but as they get older they are seen devouring entire clouds for their moisture and airkrill, leading the steppe people (who're around them the most) to call dragons "cloudeaters" opposed to the more rural culture's "big flying thing idk". this association with eating clouds established that the god of sunrise and the god of clouds have a negative relationship and the god of sunrise, the trickster that he is, created dragons to eat the god of clouds' cattle (aka the clouds/krill). and although dragons are born red, the older ones are a deep shade of crimson from feeding on the tiny airkrill just like giant volcano flamingos. thats it i suppose

    a good way to 'curse' someone using dragon stomache meat, is to force an entire village to eat some, so they have to all scatter and stay apart for as long as possible.

    There are tribes on this world, who are completly dependent on dragons, similar to how some natives in America were dependent on buffalos.
    Every year, the strongest amd bravest warriors unite to take down the biggest and meanest dragon. Then the dragon's parts are divided equally between the tribes, from flesh, to bone, even the poop. Special care is taken to the stomach, as they know the power it holds. Each tribe receives a piece of the stomach, so none of them receive more power than the other.
    According to their tradition, the year starts when the dragon is killed, and all the resorces gotten will serve them for an entire year. Obviously, they use a calendar that's different from the more rural civilizations, and is divided in periods with names such as "salting of the dragon meat" or "tanning of the dragon skin".
    Finally, the year ends when the dragon stomaches near their "expiration date". They have a ceremony were the stomach pieces are brought near and people watch it like a fireworks show. Realistically, they would use dogs or horses to approach the pieces, the animals dying in the process, but I like to think they use really long sticks.
    The period between the end of a year (exploding of the stomaches) and the start of another (hunting of the dragon) is rarely more than a day. When it lasts more people treat it like a bad omen.

      I stan this headcanon. I’ll bet they split off from the canyon people, and their culture evolved were completely independently of the windless zone folk until the nomadic herders made contact, and now they are sometimes trade.

    • @asher7535
      @asher7535 ปีที่แล้ว

      coming to this comment super late but that end of the year ceremony where the stomachs are brought together could be this huge festival, and what you said about sending an animal to its death to watch the stomach explode could be akin to animal sacrifice in other older cultures.
      Maybe each tribe spends the latter half of the year selecting a horse that will run in a sacrificial race at the end of the festival. They could put bags of powdered dye representing each clan on the horse’s saddle around the dragon stomach, so that when it eventually blows up the dye will create a large colored cloud, adding to the festivities but also signifying which clan will be blessed by their god for the next year depending on who’s blows up first. It’s this clan’s responsibility to slay the next dragon for the coming year.

    Those explosions are good for precisely synchronising clocks across long distances. They don't seem like a practical way of solving the Longitude Problem though, except maybe for static colonies.
    I guess those people will have to invent accurate clocks for finding the longitude of vehicles, like we did.

    I don't know exactly why, but filter feeder dragons just really captivate me. It must be because dragons are usually a symbol of terrifying power, so we tend not to associate 'gentle giant' filter feeders with them.

    May I ask, first what sort of wings the baleen dragons have because I can't quite tell from the angles of your dragons? And second, do the mass-negating properties of the dragon-leather only act at the level of the whole dragon or down at the atomic level? Because that latter option allows for faster than light travel, and that just seems really cool, imo. (Really hoping that the baleen dragons do not suffer as much in the sail wagon times as baleen whales did in our sailing ship era. They seem like Happy Peaceful bois.)

    • @Necrocosmia
      @Necrocosmia ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zyaicob feathers... are not lighter than air..? I think you misunderstand how feathers work. They merely aren't very heavy, and have a large surface area. This means that the friction from air molecules slows them down significantly. like a sail. Helium is lighter than air, and it certainly does not have negative mass.

In your original video you mentioned dragons being spawned from volcanos and I’m wondering if this is them literally spawning from lava via magic or just that dragons breed in volcanoes and only emerge once their old enough to fly? Also curious to see what these flying microorganisms the dragons feed on is as well.
